Speaking of “dishonesty” in McCain's TV ads, on Fox News Sunday Brit Hume pointed out Barack “Obama goes around claiming he's going to cut the taxes of 95 percent of the public, which is literally impossible” since “40 percent of American taxpayers don't pay any income tax,” but that hasn't stopped ABC (directly) and CBS (implicitly) in recent days from advancing that Obama claim as fact. Charles Gibson, in his third interview session with Sarah Palin excerpted on Friday's 20/20 and Nightline (see earlier NB item), stated that Obama will extend the “Bush tax cuts on everything but people who own or earn more than $250,000 a year -- cuts taxes on over 91 percent of the country.”
On Tuesday's CBS Evening News, Anthony Mason looked at how the Obama and McCain tax plans would impact three Ohio families, including Charles and Joi Beacham who earn $32,000. Mason asked them: “In terms of taxes, what do you want from the next President?” Joi, a school teacher with an astounding level of chutzpah, replied: “Relief.” Chutzpah because, as Mason only noted later (and deserves credit for doing so unlike many of his colleagues over the years), the Beachams “paid no taxes in 2007.” Nonetheless, Mason proceeded to report how the Beachams would benefit more from Obama than McCain since they “would see no change in their taxes under McCain, but the Obama plan would help them” because they would get refundable credits and thus “receive a check from the government for more than $2,200.”
As Hume explained, those who don't pay any income tax will get from Obama's plan “a subsidy. It's hardly a tax cut, it's in fact spending.”
Hume was a little off in his 40 percent ratio for “taxpayers” who escape having to pay any income tax, though if you add in those who don't file and/or don't earn enough to require filing with the IRS, you probably get to 40 percent or beyond. A June report from the Tax Foundation listed 32.58 percent of IRS income tax returns for 2005 as “non-paying.”
Hume during the roundtable segment of the September 14 Fox News Sunday:
If we're going to get into this question of dishonesty, I mean, Obama goes around claiming he's going to cut the taxes of 95 percent of the public, which is literally impossible. The reason it's impossible is that 40 percent of American taxpayers don't pay any income tax and therefore can't get a tax cut. What they're going to get is a subsidy. It's hardly a tax cut, it's in fact spending.
Hume added, however, “that in the realm of normal exaggeration and hyperbole” of campaigns, “I don't think any of this stuff” -- from McCain and Obama -- “has been too far out of bounds so far.”
In the September 9 “Where They Stand” report, Anthony Mason highlighted three Ohio families earning $32,000, $64,000 and $213,000.
Charles and Joi Beacham from Pataskala, Ohio with three kids, was the $32,000 family. He runs office supply business, she's a teacher. From the story as it aired (online version):
MASON: In terms of taxes, what do you want from the next President?
JOI BEACHAM: Relief.
...
MASON: The Beachams, who remember made $32,000 last year, would see no change in their taxes under McCain, but the Obama plan would help them...The Beachams, who paid no taxes in 2007, would now receive a check from the government for more than $2,200.
JOI: That would be really nice.

It's a bribe!
September 14, 2008 - 20:35 ET by JeffC...Just to make it absolutely clear--the Beachams pretty much have been offered a bribe, in the form of a tax subsidy, to vote for Obama.
Of course, the Obama camp won't say that. They'll bring up the fact that the Beachams DO pay taxes--like state sales tax, gasoline taxes, social security taxes, etc.
Neil Cavuto interview
September 14, 2008 - 21:02 ET by MaximusBraveheartNeil Cavuto inverviewed an Obama tax lady who was defending a comment Obama made that "everyone" would have lower taxes. Cavuto was trying to get her to admit that Obama made a mistake. I pointed out to my son watching that Cavuto was being polite by say Obama "misspoke" vs. just plain lying. My 10 yr. old son proposed that Obama release the prepared speech transcript vs. what Obama said to find the truth. LOL.
If he read it off as planned he did not misstate anything. He is outright lying and trying to mislead the public into believing taxes will be lower for "everyone," when in fact they will be raised for many of us.
Taxes should be flat. No higher than 15%. Government should be reduced till they can make that funding! 25%+ taxation is STEALING from the "rich" and giving to many able bodied people who work the system. REAL easy to be low income. Don't work! What type of plan is that?
The government should put these people to work on something so they EARN their BENEFITS! Novel idea ehh? They need to shut down many government agencies and make a new "works" program to at least MAKE these people earn a living. (As much as I hate big government, making people earn their benefits only makes sense).
Lots of things the government could do to get these people doing something productive for our society. If we as a family "can't afford" (actually can't justify the expense of) full healthcare coverage (have major medical HSA still costing $7,000 yr.), how can the country afford to give this to everyone "FREE?"
It will cost about $12,000 a year per family for medical coverage, so at least one family member will have to have a government job and receive NO pay, just the "entitlements," till those expenses are covered. That is the only fair way to do it. The nation cannot afford it any other way and be fair.

I understand what your saying, but I think your anger is misplaced. Take a look at the Federal budget, even your state Budget. If you want to cut government spending start at the top. Start cutting where we spend the most, where the most waste is. We'll spend over a trillion bucks THIS year funding the Military Industrial Complex...why??
And your "concerned" with the petty millions we spend on trying to make sure children in America don't starve to death or prostitute themselves on our city streets like in Venezuela

spin away
September 15, 2008 - 10:08 ET by MazziNo one is proposing, or ever has proposed, that we cut off funds to needy kids and their families. That is typical liberal twisting. What most of us want is to see the money which goes to groups which claim to help needy kids, get scaled back. So much of this money is skimmed off by the "organizers" of these programs as to be almost laughable.
ACORN - the group that Obama worked with during his "experience-gathering" times in Chicago, has been indicted dozens of times for "misspending" (stealing) funds. That was per the Clinton Administration, who benefitted greatly by this group's voter registration fraud tactics.
ACORN has also been a front for the fraudulent mortgage companies which certainly have contributed to the mess we are in today. As usual, the advocates for the poor ripping the poor off better than anyone else could. And that's not even counting the voter fraud, which these very groups use to ensure that their sources of funds are not dried up.
And, how many more ACORN type groups are there? Hundreds, maybe thousands. Some smaller and with less funds to hand out, but even a quick investigation of most of them would be likely to find glaring financial frauds, and cover-ups for what the groups actually do with the money they get.
It's amazing to me that anyone could be so blind as to think that government-funded assistance is good, while faith-based charities, people who give from the heart and not from some faceless tax pot of money, is suspect. Talk about twisted values.

Ok so when is someone going grab some soundbites of that phrase and use them against these liberals???? Because.......after all, if the "Bush tax cuts" were for the rich, then what exactly in those "Bush tax cuts" will he be extending, if those cuts were not for the middle class in the first place? I was wondering that myself...
September 14, 2008 - 21:39 ET by Secret ConservativeHow is it that a teacher and a business manager only earn $32,000 a year? Entry level salaries for teachers in Ohio have to be almost that much alone! Heck, they make that in Georgia and they're non-union!

September 15, 2008 - 10:19 ET by MazziThe lowest starting salary for a public school teacher in OH is about $27,000. http://wvde.state.wv.us/finance/data/2007/Starting%20Salary%20Teachers%2007.pdf
So, hubby must be a really crappy business manager if he is only making $5k a year.
More likely, they are using the typical liberal spin techniques, and are claiming their adjusted income, after exclusions and exemptions and deductions.
Common sense would say that this family is actually earning closer to $60,000 minimum, and they will be getting a "refund", which is not really a refund, since they didn't pay it out to begin with.

DISHONEST !!!
September 15, 2008 - 02:05 ET by john5750WHAT A COINCIDENCE. ACORN IS THE GROUP OBAMA IS INVOLVED WITH IN A MONEY-LAUNDERING CASE.
Clerks See Fraudulent, Duplicate Forms From Group.
BY L.L. BRASIER FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER
Several municipal clerks across the state are reporting fraudulent and duplicate voter registration applications, most of them from a nationwide community activist group working to help low- and moderate-income families.
The majority of the problem applications are coming from the group ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which has a large voter registration program among its many social service programs.
ACORN's Michigan branch, based in Detroit, has enrolled 200,000 voters statewide in recent months, mostly with the use of paid, part-time employees.
"There appears to be a sizeable number of duplicate and fraudulent applications," said Kelly Chesney, spokeswoman for the Michigan Secretary of State's Office. "And it appears to be widespread."
Chesney said her office has had discussions with ACORN officials after local clerks reported the questionable applications to the state. Chesney said some of the applications are duplicates and some appear to be names that have been made up. The Secretary of State's Office has turned over several of the applications to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The U.S. Attorney's Office on Friday declined to confirm whether an investigation was taking place.
In recent years, ACORN's voter registration programs have come under investigation in Ohio, Colorado, Missouri and Washington, with some employees convicted of voter fraud.
ACORN officials said they were looking into the problem. "We'll do an investigation to see what's happening," said David Lagstein, a spokesman for the Detroit office. "If it's really as many as that, it warrants further investigation."
In Pontiac, where several thousand applications have been submitted by ACORN in the last few weeks for the November election, the clerk's office is finding that numerous applications are sometimes filed under one name.
"What it causes is a slowdown of our operations," said Pontiac City Clerk Yvette Talley. "They're steadily coming in, and we are finding a huge number of duplications."
Talley said she could not provide an exact number.
Clerks are required to check their records against a statewide database of all registered voters within their jurisdiction, so it would be unlikely that duplications would allow voters to cast their votes more than once, Talley said.
"We catch them all, but it's taking up a lot of our time," she said.
In Oak Park, clerk Sandra Gadd said they have been seeing "lots of duplication" from ACORN in recent months but were reassured by ACORN officials that the group was working to correct the problem.
ACORN is the nation's largest community organization for low- and moderate-income families. Created more than 30 years ago, it has branches in 100 cities and claims 350,000 families as members. It works to help create affordable housing and health care, and to improve job conditions and neighborhood schools.
Lagstein said ACORN's Detroit office has hired dozens of employees for the voter registration program and that any problems likely stem from sloppiness or incompetence -- not an intent to let people vote more than once.
"We're proud of our efforts to increase voter registration, and we have aggressive training for our staff to make sure the cards are filled out appropriately," he said.
"We certainly do our best to keep the duplications as low as possible, so we'll have to evaluate what's happening here," he said.

Not only are the MSM not vetting, they're abetting the deceit. A community organizer in the Chicago Democratic machine is a "buy and deliver the vote to the polls" type job, where you get your turn in the barrel (and at the trough) after you've served in the trenchs long enough.

And all conservies were singin'

And, unless I'm mistaken, Obama's "Hubris" gets 183 mpg and runs on water.

Everyone gets a tax cut
September 15, 2008 - 10:14 ET by JPR1How nice. Lets watch the dominos...
Tax revenues fall, no questioning that,
then, either the deficit (and hence govt borrowing) goes up or
Govt spending must go down.*
Oh, you say the corporations will make up the difference.
Hmmm, corps take the hit; layoffs ensue; unemployment goes up;
productivty falls and...federal spending goes up* (along with the deficit)
Solution: raise taxes. Obamas 24 month plan.
* (reducing spending is just not part of the socialist construct).
