Mark Levin Tells Michelle Obama ‘Stop Putting Down My Country!’

February 19th, 2008 1:49 PM

For those that missed it, Mrs. Barack Obama recently told a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, crowd, "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country."

On Monday, my colleague John Stephenson wisely asked, "Will Media Ignore Michelle Obama Remark?"

After looking at what MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski said on Tuesday's "Morning Joe," the answer to Stephenson's question is: media that don't ignore Obama's disgraceful comments will likely defend them.

Fortunately, conservative talk radio host Mark Levin isn't part of the mainstream media establishment, and on his program Monday, said what most press representatives would if they had any spine, and didn't behave like shills for the Democrat Party (audio available here):

What do you mean for the first time in your adult life you're proud of your country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because you think people are hungry for change? Have you suffered? Have you suffered, ma'am? I'm tired of people putting down this country. I'm tired of people pretending that this is still pre-slavery, pre-segregation, pre-internment. That we're in a depression. I'm sick and tired of people ignoring the enormous progress we've made in this country and sacrifices one generation after another have made to make this a more perfect country. I'm sick and tired of it. [...]

I don't give you a pass. You finally have hope for this country? Well, that's somebody else's kids over there, fighting and dying so you can go to an Ivy League school, so you can send your kids to a private school, so you and your husband can have your day in the limelight, and to make millions of dollars. Stop putting down my country! Stop putting down my country when there's so many great people doing so many great things so you can have it all, so we all can have it all. No more pandering. Enough is enough. This may work with the radical left, but it doesn't work with me, and it doesn't work with most Americans.

Count me in that group it doesn't work with, Mark. And while we're at it, here are some more questions sycophantic media members won't ask Mrs. Obama:

  • Were you proud of this country when you graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 1985?
  • Were you proud of this country when you graduated from Harvard Law School in 1988?
  • Were you proud of this country when you were hired by the law firm Sidley Austin?
  • Were you proud of this country when the Berlin Wall was torn down in 1989?
  • Were you proud of this country when Colin Powell became the first black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1989?
  • Were you proud of this country when we liberated Kuwait from Saddam Hussein in 1991?
  • Were you proud of this country after your husband was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996?
  • Were you proud of this country when Colin Powell became the first black Secretary of State in 2001?
  • Were you proud of this country after it came together following the 9/11 attacks?
  • Were you proud of this country when -- despite Iran being our mortal enemy -- it led a massive international rescue operation after a devastating earthquake hit Bam in 2003?
  • Were you proud of this country when your husband gave a Keynote Speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004?
  • Were you proud of this country when your husband was elected Senator in 2004?
  • Were you proud of this country when Condoleezza Rice was named the first black, female Secretary of State in 2005?
  • Were you proud of this country when Essence magazine named you among "25 of the World's Most Inspiring Women" in 2006?
  • Were you proud of this country when Harvard named you amongst its 100 most influential alumni in 2007?

Did any of these events make you proud of this country, Mrs. Obama?

Maybe more important, will any media members ask Mrs. Obama any of these questions?

Yes, that's rhetorical.

*****Update: NBer Bayshoreman has added some questions he'd like media to ask Mrs. Obama (with minor edits and corrections):

  • Was she proud of her country when we provided massive aid relief (mostly through our military) in the aftermath of the Indonesian tsunamis?
  • Was she proud of her country when we helped to end ethnic cleansing in Serbia?
  • Was she proud of her country when we won Gold Medals in the Olympics?
  • Was she proud of her country whenever young men and women of their own free will, decide to put on the uniform of one of our armed services to defend her, her family, and our country?
  • Is she proud of our country when young men and women of their own free will join the Peace Corps?
  • Is she proud of our country for the tens of billions of dollars that are freely given to charities worldwide by individual American citizens?

Anybody else have some questions media won't ask Mrs. Obama?

*****Update II: NBer Jerry's comments must also be recognized:

Whenever I see the space shuttle roar off into the sky or glide down from the heavens for a pinpoint landing, I am proud.

Whenever I see the selfless, courageous, heroic acts of our soldiers, I am proud.

Whenever I see the United States rush to the aid of countries in need, as the first and sometimes sole responder, I am proud.

Whenever I see foreigners risk their very lives to reach the shores of our nation for a chance to become Americans, I am proud.

Whenever I see the people of this nation unite against the forces of tyrany and terrorism, I am proud.

Whenever I see the rows upon rows of white crosses marking the final resting places of those who gave their lives so that we may be free, I am proud.

Whenever I see the rejoicing of those freed from the bondage of oppression, whether it be the East Germans after the fall of the Berlin wall, or the people of Kuwait, or the purple fingered citizens of Iraq, I am proud.

Whenever I see the grateful Africans embracing our President for doing more to combat Aids and malaria than any president even thought about doing, I am proud.

Whenever I see truckload after truckload of Christmas shoe boxes being shipped out to poor, forgotten children across the globe, I am proud.

Whenever I see the selfless attitudes that our fire fighters and police officers exhibit during times of crisis, I am proud.

Whenever I see people worshiping God freely without fear of reprisal, I am proud.

There are times however when I am truly ashamed. My shame is not directed toward our great nation, but to those like Michelle Obama, Cindy Sheehan, Sean Penn, etc., who would reap all the benefits our nation has to offer and then proceed to bite the very hand that fed them.

Marvelous stuff, Jerry. Thank you. And you, Gary Hall:

I have to admit Noel, and perhaps I was caught off guard, when I heard Michelle Obama's comment about how proud of our country she suddenly was, I connected it to the news of the millions of lives that President Bush is saving in Africa. First thing yesterday morning, Ann Curry of NBC was interviewing the President and First Lady from Africa (I assumed Michelle has a strong emotional connection to Africa - my bold):

Ann Curry – NBC News. Feb. 18, 2008"Even your critics, Mr. [we prefer Mr. President, Ann] Bush say that you have had the greatest impact on Africa than any President in US history. You have fought for funding and have saved over a million lives, from Malaria and Aids."

NB members are right on the mark today making me feel what Mrs. Obama sadly doesn't. Thank you!
