Update below (May 9, 23:30 EDT)
First Time magazine drops the President from the '100 Most Influential' list, and now this: The big front-page photo in Tuesday's New York Times was of Queen Elizabeth (who did make Time's list of important movers and shakers) with President Bush walking past a row of photographers at the White House after her official welcome. But the photo cropped off the top third of Bush's head, and the caption whimsically referred to him only as the Queen's "American escort," as if he was a security guard or State Department flunkie.
Under the headline "Focus Group" (a play on all the cameras present), the Times summarized: "Before an A-list, white-tie dinner, the masses had a chance to see Queen Elizabeth II, with an American escort, at the White House. Page A19."
No word on whether the Queen was amused by the NYT's oddball caption.
Update (Ken Shepherd): Anchor Brit Hume of FNC's "Special Report" led off his May 9 "Political Grapevine" segment with this item, although he did not mention NewsBusters by name.

May 8, 2007 - 15:05 ET by NeoCon JediThe Times continues to make every attempt to turn the President of the United States into a nobody, something you wouldn't see if a democrat was in the White House. They're just making an ass of themselves at every turn. No wonder they're losing readers.

May 8, 2007 - 15:21 ET by Dee BunkThey took the term President away, then they take the power away, now he's an escort, next time he'll be referred to as a stalker. Pretty soon they will take Mr. away also and the next time the President speaks to the press they will say "according to a White House official" - scratch that - sounds too important - it will be "according to a man at the White House".

May 8, 2007 - 15:28 ET by JimboDee – I have commented on this before, but you can’t give credit to the MSM for taking away the term President. That honor goes to Mr. Clinton. He started referring to the first President Bush as “Mr.” during their debates. I found it so appalling and disrespectful that I remember it clearly. Not only did the MSM not point out the disrespect, they resurrected the idea when the second President Bush took office. Of course, the disrespect was filed away during the Clinton years.

May 8, 2007 - 15:33 ET by Dee BunkJimbo - Clinton is despicable, but so are they because they run with his talking points. They still refer to Clinton as President Clinton but Bush is Mr. Bush. It's so transparent. They are unbelievable.

May 8, 2007 - 16:39 ET by DCC1That drives me crazy! I can't even listen to the news anymore, they had no problem calling him Gov. Bush, but now that he is the lowly President of the United States of America, they just drop the prefix and refer to him as "Mr. Bush" Or just Bush.
It doesn't surprise me though, I have heard alot of my lefty friends claim that "Bush isn't their president", the media just take it one step further.

May 8, 2007 - 18:48 ET by chuckoYou know, all the lazy, sloppy and distrustful NYT writers and photographers had to do was go on the White House's very own website, and they could've gotten the full picture, albeit at a different (and I say better) angle.

May 8, 2007 - 16:55 ET by acumenNo word on whether the Queen was amused by the NYT's oddball caption.
Reference to media's opinion of Queen's take on Bush gaffe noted, the Queen appears to be much too classy a lady to read a rag like the NY Times.
One does wonder if the disgruntled NY Times Co. shareholders are amused.
Well, as long as NY Times employees keep Prince Pinch amused, isn't that what's really important?
