At The Corner, Mark Steyn notices once again that the liberal media elite's line that they only love a good story, and not any one political party in particular, can only lead one to fits of giggles:
Here’s something I meant to mention yesterday – the unerring news instincts of the American media . Anyone who wonders why US newspaper sales are heading south should ponder the behavior of the geniuses at The Tennessean. They had the Al Gore electric-bill story a month before the Oscars but somehow never got around to writing anything up:
Editor Mark Silverman denies that it had anything to do with favoritism, bias, or wanting to make sure that nothing came between Al and Oscar. Instead, he told the Scene (I’ll post the link when it comes on line) that they were busy “working on other stories.”
The “other stories” are worth clicking through to just for a sense of how disconnected a major state newsroom is from any idea that its bottom line might depend on producing something readable. No doubt The Tennessean was just triple-checking its sources and would have run it eventually – a year or two into President Gore’s second term.

Gorebal Warming
March 10, 2007 - 09:44 ET by pbthinkerThe media is really proud when they can catch a hypocrite conservative. They print the story, jump through hoops to keep it in the news, and can make that story last for, at least, a month.
With Mr. Gore, the story came out, his staff said he buys offsets, story starts to die, some Conservative journals take on the offsets but get no publicity, end of story.
Compare that to Scooter Libby. Guilty, protecting Cheney, White House under a cloud, and the stories are still coming out while Gore can slip under the radar once again. Only the Washington Post is willing to point out that Joe Wilson is a liar, while the rest of the media puts that story under the rug.
There is little wonder the media is losing credibility, but it's their own fault and, their protestations aside, they deserve everything they're getting. If Global Warming is as important as Al Gore says it is, why hasn't he done anything about his power consumption, the media fails to find an answer to that question.
Global Warming Gore

Ignorance is bliss. It's easier to repeat a mindless slogan than to do some actual research.
I heard a liberal talk radio
March 10, 2007 - 10:16 ET by SamI heard a liberal talk radio host (sorry not sure what channel or who she was as I was on a long ride doing a lot of channel surfing) say that the Al Gore electric usage was a misnomer. He only SPENT that much on power because he was paying extra for green power. She totally glossed over the facts in defense of the liberal hero Gore. The main fact being he used 200,000+ KW hours a year in just ONE of his homes. While the average household uses somewhere around 12,000 KW hours a year.
There was another guy (I'm pretty sure this one was on NPR) saying that Bush knew that Iraq / Niger yellowcake deal was false a year or more before Wilson's visist and he based that on a breaking in Niger that was so poorly done it had to be US intelligence so therefore Bush must have known that whole this was false.
Today's liberals are masters of misinformation and anti-American propaganda. It's just disgraceful.

Clearly, there's no room at all for any story about Gore and his mansion. Let's give this newspaper a break, will ya?

March 10, 2007 - 12:57 ET by Gary HallTim. And the majors [newspapers] also. Certainly could reflect on last fall's election season; all those stories that the papers sat on, until just after the elections. I belive that NB addressed a bit of that.
Someone in the postings mentioned the Libby Trial here. All along the way - since the story broke (or was it - created by the media, and Joe Wilson) - they've had ample chance to up the discussion to one of intellect and perspective, but chose to remain only writing from the pit of political bias. Would not the MSM invite into the 3 year discussion here, the wise words of one they hold so dearly, if it served their purpose. From July 2003, on Larry King Live. Also worth note, is that many of Clinton's answers to numerous King questions on these most polorizing issues, shocked King. He was not prepared to accept any of Clinton's explanations (most going to defend the Bush administration) -- AND, once Clinton left his stage, King would forever forget what he had learned.
The White House said ... that on balance they probably shouldn't have put that comment in the speech. What happened, often happens. There was a disagreement between British intelligence and American intelligence. The president said it was British intelligence that said it ... British intelligence still maintain that they think the nuclear story was true. I don't know what was true, what was false ...
Then Clinton went on to add:
Even with Clinton saying to us that we should all be together on this one, the MSM would somehow decide that this discussion amongst human beings should stay out of the debate.
Maybe next April?
Clinton
March 10, 2007 - 13:21 ET by pbthinkerWe can all see how well the Democrats heeded that advice. Since then, it appears that Clinton has hedged his bets a little, perhaps to give Hillary some room when she starts spinning her take on Iraq.
I would love to see anyone point out where Democrats listened to Bill Clinton, on this one, and tried to be "nonpartisan" in their approach to Iraq!

March 10, 2007 - 15:11 ET by InsufficientContextThis story reminded me of a local media snafu here in Minnesota dealing with Kerry's "Botched Joke". For the first few days of the story neither of the major papers covered it, nor did any of the local television stations. Then it was revealed that the soldiers in the "Halp Us Jon Carry -- We R Stuck Hear In Irak" photo were from the Minnesota National Gaurd. Oops.
