Communist China Says Merry Christmas, But Capitalist Google Won't

  • Bookmark and Share

Well, here is a sad commentary on the fellow travelers over at Internet mega-corp, Google. Their Christmas graphic eschews that evil "Ch_ _ stmas" word giving us a bow and candy cane, instead. Apparently, Google doesn't want to cause any outrage by using the words "Merry Christmas."

Yet, the communists over at China Daily's on line news/propaganda site doesn't seem to have the slightest problem wishing us all a Merry Christmas as the graphic at the top of their mainpage shows!

What a sad commentary when even our Godless, communist enemies can say "Merry Christmas" but an ostensibly western, capitalist company won't do the same!

Merry Christmas to all you NBers, though. Thanks for putting up with me this last year. It's been a great trip.

Yours,

Warner Todd Huston

Which is why I no longer use that search engine which will remain nameless.

I use Dogpile............works fine for me

Betrayed by Google

Before I knew anything about the politics of the founders of Google, I was a big advocate of their search engine.

Now I feel betrayed and am sorry I ever promoted Google to my friends and colleagues.

And not just because the Google founders are underwriting Al Gore and lots of other Left leaning lunatics (though that's bad enough).

Goggle has always claimed objectivity in its products, but when I started seeing the infamous Left promoted "snarling Cheney" picture showing up with high frequency on the Google News page - I knew I was being had by someone.

Thankfully, there are lots of other news sites and search engines out there.

That's pretty sad that even

That's pretty sad that even a Communist country is more tolerant of a religious holiday than the USA.

I guess we're supposed to be gratified that they even decorated at all, with "seasonal" graphics that might even "remind" folks that a religious holiday occurs around this time of year.

Traitors

I don't especially have a problem with G----e giving money to dems - that's their right under our system of government.  But to betray our culture by giving in to the pc police and others who think that the dreaded C-word should not be uttered is a victory for CAIR and the mus-loons.  Whose side are these people on, anyway?  Oh well, MERRY CHRISTMAS to all Newsbusters!

...

Considering how much of China's industrial output is scattered across living room floors in the U.S. today, I'm not at all surprised that they celebrate Christmas.

At least Google acknowledges the holiday, even if they won't name it -- that's more than they've done for Veterans and Memorial Days in the past.

It's gone

Just removed G%$#&E from my Firefox search engine list. Added Dogpile, because I like the name.

I'm enjoying a great cup of coffee and watching the kid play with her Christmas Loot. It's always a good Christmas when I'm in port. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves as much as I am.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, Y'ALL!!

Merry Christmas and did you ever notice?

Did you ever notice whose links Google provides for "news"? Hmmm - The extremely objective Clinton News Network and the always open-minded Militants Say Nobody But Clinton!

Does that speak volumes or what? I guess they figure one would use them if they put a link for FNC!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from northeast Ohio, my fellow NB bloggers!

Traditionally, Google has

Traditionally, Google has just changed the image of its logo rather than putting up an actual phrase naming the holiday it's commemorating. Should Google put the words "Merry Christmas" under its logo when it doesn't do that for any other holiday or event? I don't see any bias here.

I agree, SeanSt

And I think the "sad commentary" here is that some folks have to dig to find "evidence" that their religion is under attack.

Guys, if you want to go after someone, try that bozo in Seattle who had Santa nailed to a cross in his front yard.

Or is Google just an easy target?

War on . . . What?

I think that the so-called War on Christmas is an item that only the liberal MSM (who try to wage it) and the uber-religious (who panic about it) believe in. I say Merry Christmas to people right and left (pun fully intended) all the time, and not a single person has EVER taken offense. Then again, I don't live in San Fransisco, Manhattan or Seattle. Heck, I'm a former Christian and don't have a problem with either the basis of the holiday or the greeting. America is in fact a majority Christian nation, and there is no reason why that shouldn't be acknowledged and celebrated. The problem isn't religion or lack thereof; it's thin skins.

Scamorama also has it right on Google's logo. I've only ever seen them dress up the banner in event-oriented style, rather than an explicit text message about whatever event/holiday is being marked.

Christmas in Asia

And, I might add, Christmas has virtually zero religious overtones in Asia and is therefore not at all controversial. They like the pretty lights, Santa and gift exchange aspects, but a baby in a manger in Bethlehem never enters into it. I should know; I have lived in Japan for 14 years and have rarely seen Jesus tied into Christmas, except when a carol is being sung on TV and even then, the song is usually sung in English and therefore meaningless to both the singer and audience.

Clarification

I don't think the OP made it totally clear what was going on. If you moused over the graphic, you got a pop-up saying "Happy Holidays from Google." Usually, if you click on their seasonal logos, you'll go to a page that discusses the special event behind the logo. This one just led to a page showing four different "Happy Holidays" graphics from Google. I know Google has done logos that specifically wished people a Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy New Year, for example, and gave you more info on those holidays when you clicked through. That's why the difference caused a stir this time around. It's just another example of a culture that seems absolutely petrified to say the word "Christmas," even though 95% of us celebrate it.

I say all this as an agnostic, by the way. To me, it's not so much a war on Christmas as a failure of logic and reason (since when can you not utter the word of a day that 95% of us celebrate?), a subversion of majority-rules democracy (since the sensibilities of 5% of the population are apparently more important than those of 95%), and another symptom of political correctness gone completely out of control. Unfortunately, you don't have to "dig" at all to find plenty of examples. They're everywhere.

I'm not a big fan of

I'm not a big fan of Google, but this story is empty. They don't put words up for holidays. Non story IMO.
