Politico's Calderone: Olbermann Crashes SNL Set

Photo of Tom Blumer.

Olbermann1008Busybody Keith Olbermann couldn't wait to see how Saturday Night Live was going to portray him. So, says Politico.com's Michael Calderone, he apparently breached the show's (I thought) tight security to find out.

And of course, when contacted, the MSNBC host took yet another cheap shot at his personal obsession, Sarah Palin. It was just a few weeks ago on NBC's Sunday Night Football that Olbermann made a Palin Derangement Syndrome-betraying allusion when describing the mental condition of a just-injured NFL quarterback.

Here is most of Calderone's brief item:

Ben Affleck, who’s hosting “Saturday Night Live” this week, was rehearsing a skit this afternoon mocking Keith Olbermann when Olbermann himself got past security to watch, according to a source with knowledge of the incident.

A source described the skit as “savage,” in portraying Olbermann as a deranged person living at home with his mother. Affleck, said a source, became uneasy with Olbermann in attendance at the 3 p.m., closed-set rehearsal.

But Olbermann, through a spokesman, was complimentary on his first time being mocked on "SNL" — a position his MSNBC colleague Chris Matthews has been in over the years.

“I’m not Sarah Palin,” Olbermann said. “I know how valuable it is to me. And it’s funny."

Gee, I wonder if the show would have been so deferential to a rehearsal-crashing conservative radio talker or TV host?

Unless I'm missing something, Olbermann's dig doesn't even make sense, because Palin got rave reviews for her performance and her demeanor from both friend and foe during her SNL appearance.

Exit question: Is anyone else besides me concerned about an ambush of John McCain during his SNL appearance tomorrow night?

Wow, Tom

I hope the Secret Service has elephant stoppers loaded tomorrow.

The unhinged Oberdoof loose....no telling what will happen.

I might even attempt to watch.

In his own words (19 seconds):  This man is qualified to be VP?

Tom

I'm confused.  I thought Count Down with Keith Olbermann is a SNL type show: Lots of political satire; spoofing Republican candidates; lousy comedy routines.  People don't think Count Down is a serious news show do they?

Tom, Olbermann doesn't make sense, you aren't missing anything.

I'm looking forward to the day when his alligator mouth finally overloads his cottontail behind and someone knocks him on his A$$!

Ambush McCain on SNL

Affleck is crazier than Olbemann, but I would doubt the iron fist of Mr. Michaels will allow anyone to ambush John McCain as it will be the end of their career.

Michaels has gotten rid of people before and this cast is not that talented to be pulling anything.

It is amazing that SNL gets it's best ratings when running Conservatives. It is amazing that the panty wetting Tina Fey (hey she said she wets her panties after having a kid on Letterman) only rose to real notority in tagging herself to Gov. Palin in what I is not funny at all impersonation.

Will Ferrell was fabulous as George Bush and Darrell Hammond was fabulous as Bill Clinton, but the current Obama and Palin mimes suck. Sorry but Hammond is not funny as John McCain either.

If Lorne is reading this and uses this suggestion on how to spoof John McCain, then I want credit and the bucks for it, but here is how you do a funny side to McCain.
Make John McCain in the Vladamir Putin role as the indestructable hunky man. Make John McCain 007 in women dripping off of him, his tearing open his shirt to expose his chest, flexing his muscles..........make John McCain the answer to all situations in a super hunk.

Darrell Hammond can pull that off easily and it would be great comedy. Stop doing John McCain as the guy who can not move as torture is not funny. Make him the suave, sophisticated, too cool dude he is.
Make this his punchline:

"Oh John McCain you are such a beefcake".

"I know baby, Barack Obama is even sending me fan mail".

PS: Olbermann who??? lol. He thinks it is funny to be called nuts and living with his mother as an advancement to his career????

Maybe Olbermann is crazier than the duck for insurance commerical.

I thought Fey was good as

I thought Fey was good as Palin especially with the "I can see Russia from my hooooouse" line, but it's gone on too long now. Palin should be past "bimbofication" gags by now, and I think Fey is embarassed to be portraying her that way after meeting her in person.

Whoever does Barry is horrible! and whoever did Michelle Obama was just as bad, And she didn't even have a blow-up butt suit on, to make it more accurate.

Anyway, Palin added class to that show, I expect Mac will too, and I think I heard Huckabee say that Lorne Michaels was going to be on his show tomorrow/sunday, so I doubt that there is a beartrap planned for McCain.

Nah -- airhead celebutards like Fey are unembarrassable. She couldn't be any more full of herself if she wanted. And she hates Palin's guts.

But I think Alec Baldwin grew some grudging respect for Governor Palin.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

I've never found Tina Fey that funny

...or a great writer on SNL. I only found her amusing when playing secondary characters in sketches.

She's by far the most overrated comedian to come off that show.

Funny is..

.. the portrayal of Oprah on Madtv.

PALIN/McCain 2008

"airhead celebutards like

"airhead celebutards like Fey"? Really? And you have what to back up that "assessment"?

Ambush

I think there is at least one fellow traveller at SNL per Barney Frank skit.

McCain is genuinely funny and is not afraid to make fun of himself.

Sen Obama has shown himselfto be unable to withstand any ridicule. Doubtless his vanity doesn't allow it. I think one of the most telling moments of this whole thing is his rejection of Rev Wright. He didn't reject Wright because of what he said about America but because of what he said about Sen Obama.

I can imagine how enraged Sen Obama was with the scorn and ridicule justly heaped upon him by Thompson, Guiliani, and Palin at the RNC.

Sen Obama is a very little man; Sen McCain is a big, big man.

Victoria Jackson was on O'Reilly

She said she was surprised they have some conservative writers on there.

They did get some Obama zingers in when Palin was on, we have to admit.

You say Obama, we say Ayers!

Olbertwit is looney enough, that he just might...

try to crash the show tomorrow night. I wouldn't put it past him. But, I am assuming however, that set security will be tight as a tick, and with the Secret Service presence, I'd be surprised if something were to happen. I don't think even the ultra-liberal SNL folks want any trouble with the Secret Service.

For some reason, reading

For some reason, reading this article had me thinking of the old commercial with the big red Kool-Aid Man pitcher crashing through the wall to quench the thirst of all the children.

Hmm... Olbermann... Kool-Aid... red... madness... sounds right to me.

This is a mistake just like

This is a mistake just like going on the View was a mistake. If McCain looks like a fool-performs badly-it's the last thing people will remember before Tuesday. And, if everything goes ok, it's not like it's going to win any votes. It's just a potential disaster so why risk it? Especially with McCain hater Affleck hosting. Does McCain actually think he isn't going to be the butt of at least a few jokes with tool Affleck there? I can see the end of the show now with Affleck waving an Obama sign in Mac's face as he stands there awkwardly while nobody hugs him. Ugh.

I am going to politely disagree sir.

Palin going on was an overall good.

We know Sen. McCain has a sense of humour. I think it will be positive. We shall find out tonight.

Sincerely,

SNL has been in the tank

SNL has been in the tank all season. But seeing then go after Olbermann? I. Can't. Wait. To.Watch.

Not his 1st Rodeo

Sen McCain has done the show many times so I am hoping he will be ok and noone does anything that will put him at risk. I would hope Mr Michaels would prevent that as a professional.  After all Sarah went on and got rave reviews from all not to mention the highest ratings in all time. The View thing was so wrong and "The One" has never gone back/KO is a jerk and I am always amazed that he has an audience

I wish that they would mock BO's via the speech that the Gov of California gave yesterday about his scrawny little arms and legs.

The best line though was when the Gov spoke of the candy being given out at his home and labelled it a typical liberal giveaway which is not a complete direct quote but close enough so to speak

Olbermann is an egotistical

Olbermann is an egotistical jerk.. Crashing the set to see how he is being protrayed.  Probably wanted to intimidate Ben.  What a complete fool/jerk.

it's only a matter of time

before Olberdork says or does something to get himself fired. It might be next week or next year, but the guy is so unstable and so unliked by most of those in his line of profession, that he can't sustain things as they are now.

Fired?

I was going to say 'committed' so that he can get the help that he desperately needs.

PALIN/McCain 2008

----

Crashing the set to see how he is being protrayed

Yeah, that is pretty self-obsessive, isn't it?

Obvious motive

"A source described the skit as “savage,” in portraying Olbermann as a deranged person living at home with his mother. "

Well, that was the skit, anyway, before Olbermann "showed up".  My bet is he was there to intimidate and stop the skit, no matter what the flowery writing would have you believe about him being a good sport.  He is anything BUT.  Got wind that he was going to be a target and went to the set to intimidate them out of ridiculing him.  Deranged people have little humor when it comes to themselves being mocked  ---  end of skit (you'll be seeing something considerably watered down I suppose).

SNL Missed a Chance

I think SNL missed a chance to put Olberman ( It makes me physically ill just to type his name) on the show. I would have liked to see if his HUGE ego could have stood being mocked with him in the skit.  This is the last time I'm going to waste my time commenting on a worthless piece of "SH..T" like Olberman.

1. The skit tore up

1. The skit tore up Olbermann pretty well.

2. There is ZERO chance of Olbermann imposing some kind of change upon the SNL staff. He doesn't have that kind of mojo.

3. McCain ambush? Didn't happen. I think that's a little paranoid.

Bal,

I saw the skit, and Affleck did a nice olnutjob impersonation, but they managed to keep the liberal viewers happy with it as well, IYKWIM.

I guess I can think of a new

I guess I can think of a new variation on theme, which goes "Don Cry For Me Venezuela", referring to Obama of course.
