I've noted previously that Old Media has developed a squeamishness towards describing this time of year in business stories as the "Christmas shopping season."
In the midst of media criticism of Mike Huckabee's Christmas ad, including the Whoopi Goldberg-Joy Behar exchange on "The View" noted earlier today by NewsBusters' Justin McCarthy, how interesting it is that one of Hillary Clinton's latest ads in Iowa joins in the C-word sqeamishness (HT Hot Air, whose Bryan Preston calls it "Hillary's Unintentionally Revealing Christmas Ad").
The ad shows Mrs. Clinton wrapping presents for the American people, including "Universal Health Care," "Alternative Energy," "Bring Troops Home," and "Middle Class Tax Breaks" (where have we heard that undelivered promise before?). In search of the final present to wrap, she asks, "Where's Universal Pre-K?" Finding it, she says, "Ah, there it is."
(Three of these "presents" to the American people would have to be paid for with money coming from the American people in the form of taxes -- but that's for another time.)
Then comes the ad's final new slide:

According to Wikipedia:
A 2001 survey from the City University of New York found that 52% of Iowans are Protestant, while 23% are Roman Catholic, and other religion made up 6%. 13% responded with non-religious, and 5% did not answer.
Exactly what did Mrs. Clinton have to lose by at least allowing the dreaded C-word to appear in equal billing with "Happy Holidays"? Will anyone in Old Media note this "curious" omission?

December 20, 2007 - 00:18 ET by KeithI'm black but oddly enough I grew up celebrating both Christmas AND Hanukkah, my best friend growing up was Jewish. While I didn't obviously get into the religious aspects of his faith I did buy him Hanukkah presents and his family always bought me Christmas presents. Most Jews know what the calendar says and what time it is. Hanukkah ended more than a week ago. Now, perhaps if I were running for something, don't have a heart attack BigTimer, I'd have sent out a Happy Hanukkah message during the eight days of it, but that's just me. I saw my podiatrist yesterday who is Jewish and he wished me a very MERRY CHRISTMAS! I in turn asked him how his Hanukkah was and he said that his wife was ticked because her big gift wouldn't be here for another week! (Mercedes!) We had a good laugh shook hands and I went on my way. I think that's how most Jews would feel, IMHO. Not pretending to speak for ANY Jews of course as that would be presumptuous.

December 20, 2007 - 00:55 ET by stratmanThe eastside of my city has a large Jewish population. Growing up I've had Jewish neighbors, workmates, classmates, friends, girlfriends and relatives. While I don't know the pulse of Orthodox Jews or the entire Jewish population, I do know that not a single Jew I know is offended by Christmas, including the salutation "Merry Christmas". Nor are Jews offended when I wish them a "Happy Hannukah".
Like most Christians I know, Jews are sick and tired of the commercialization of religious holidays. This seems to be a common occurence beginning in adulthood for most people.

I sincerely hope that we as Americans will recognize these scallywags for what they are and thwart their destructive policies. So far it worked concerning Gore, Kerry and Edwards in presidential elections.
Too often, though, these critters are able to reemerge in public and restart their power grabs anew, albeit in altered format. For instance, how can it be that a reprobate like Ted Kennedy is re-elected term after term? He was the point man on the previous immigration bill 20 some years ago who promised that it would resolve the issues once and for all and no other bill of its kind be necessary. How can he not be run out of D.C. on rails for his lies and blatant deceptions?
On the other hand, I think McCain and Bush learned that America was not fully in favor of their ineffectual and problem-riddled immigration proposals. And I think their is a chink in the armour of his global-warmingest Al Gore which will help establish science over emotion in the AGW cult. So, there is hope for America!

A car in the driveway?
December 20, 2007 - 10:22 ET by pbanks7That reminds me of a joke:
Ed was in trouble. He forgot his wedding
anniversary, and his wife was really angry. She told him:
"Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the
driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in less then 6
seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!!"
The next morning Ed got up early and left for
work. When his wife woke up she looked out the window
and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of
the driveway.
Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to
the driveway, and brought the box back in the house. She
opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale....Ed has been missing since Friday.
Please pray for him. And Merry Christmas!

Anyway, thanks for presuming to speak on behalf of me and every other liberal about what we do or do not hate via your sad little stereotype.
It's funny how this war on Xmas nonsense comes about every single year now, as predictable as that first ad in mid-November for some crap nobody needs but everyone is conditioned to desire through repetition, yuletidesque jingles, and the implication that Christmas gifts are a perfect excuse to drive up yor credit card debt. Has anyone yet had an experience in which some Grinchy anti-Christmas para-military squad raided your house and prevented you from celebrating? No? Hmmm...

Hillary says she too is human
December 20, 2007 - 01:15 ET by Lame CherryI find it odd that people focus on Christmas and how Jews feel about it when a woman who has been in the public national eye for around 20 years is currently on Nightline to Entertainment tonight trying to tell the world HILLARY IS HUMAN.
Dragging out your kid, geezer ma and some old thing Hillary now says is her "sister" to make Americans think you are normal........is a complete looser track. All of a sudden the family which tossed Socks, treated Chelsea like the ugly kid and had Buddy the dog run over is now on the stage telling the world Hillary is a cuddle muffin not to just lesbians alone.
Perhaps this would work on a hate filled lunatic like Bruce Brown (check his wacko liberal New York Times site which features attacks on George Custer, George Bush while he "hears the voice of the dead Crazy Horse in writing books), but people from Iowa seem to have figured out that Hillary is the crazy woman who lives down the street where cats all seem to disappear and end up in the garbage can.
Mrs. Clinton stood to loose her last gasp in using the Christ Mass term as her ilk like Bruce Brown, the New York Times, Boston Globe hate the holy season and want it a mix of Kwanza and trying to meld it into a Jewish "holy day" in the Hannakah.
To explain to people and the Jewish faithful reading this, Jesus observed Hannakah or the season of Temple rededication as it was His custom.
Christ Mass is a Catholic invention and has nothing to do with Christ's birth which happened months before in the autumn. The Christ Mass was a successful attempt by the Vatican to involve the pagans at the time who were celebrating the festival of the "sun rising from the dead" of the winter solstace.
None of which has a thing to do with modern Christians and Peace on earth and Good Will toward men in the gift of the Christ.
As stated, Jesus observed the Temple rededication as He observed all Jewish Holy Days. He never took one away, but only built upon them as Abraham built upon the instructions of the High Priest of Jerusalem.
Jesus will one High Day rededicate the defiled Temple which will be built soon in this period. This is the blessed day after Trumpets or the Ingathering which St. Paul speaks of and Daniel was told by the Angels.
Happy Holidays do Hillary nor anyone any good. Holy Days do and are required to be observed with reverence.
So Merry Christ Mass and soon may He come to rededicate the Temple of our God. In His Name. Amen

December 20, 2007 - 09:23 ET by Killgrave"In search of the final present to wrap, she asks, "Where's Universal Pre-K?" Finding it, she says, "Ah, there it is.""
It's fitting that she pretends that these issues are "presents". To an infantile mind, Christmas presents come from magic and are "free". I remember, when I was a greedy little idiot kid, I asked my parents why I didn't get more presents from Santa, since being magical he had an inexhaustible supply. My parents responded that they had to give him money for the gifts, so stop being such a sh-t. Even at a very early age I learned that one doesn't get something for nothing.
Anyway.. "Pre-K". What a wonderful idea. God forbid that we expect parents to bond with their kids in the few short years before they are turned over for the school system to raise. Apparently this is wasting valuable indoctrination time.
"Merry Christmas, I approve this politically correct message."
December 20, 2007 - 09:32 ET by CrashThe thing that glared out in her ad was not the absence of Merry Christmas (which always seems strange not coming from a christian), but the fact that she seems to have a lot of luck finding misplaced items that have been there all along.
Obama had his wife and kids do the dirty deed; which speaks volumes. His ad was so stupid, I thought he was going to wish us all a happy ramadan. Sorry chief ... you bombed.
Then there's Princess Edward's sincere holiday grinching. Who is so saddened by homeless vets that he built a twenty-eight thousand square foot compound in there honor. Let the money do the talking.
I believe that Huckabee really means it when he wishes me a Merry Christmas. But, it's not enough to get me to vote for him. Were it that easy, the guy ringing the bell outside the mall has my vote.
Oh, if you're jewish it's okay to wish me a happy Hannukah. However, don't wish me ramadan or kwanzaa or I'll vent my blowhole in your face.
Merry Christmas, I approve this message.
In thias day and age when the Democrats are trying to show
December 20, 2007 - 09:29 ET by c5thenThey are people of faith too...Hillary just proved that she is ashamed to mention Christmas. Regardless of when the Messiah was ACTUALLY born, we choose to celebrate his birth on December 25th of every year. (We move George Washington's, Abe Lincoln's and Christopher Colombus' birthday too just to give us Monday's off). If you want to be inclusive of all, then the answer is not to water down one holiday but to celebrate and mention them all. There is nothing wrong with a candidate sending out Chanukah greetings during Chanukah, Christmas greetings during Christmas, Ramadan greetings during Ramadan, etc. That is the way to be inclusive. Sending out a generic "Happy Holidays" is a way to show you have no regard for anything and are ashamed of your own professed religion.
The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.
c5then you are so right!
December 20, 2007 - 14:47 ET by sentforth5And in case this Christmas/ Jesus' birthday messes anyone up, the facts are in the book of Luke:
Mary was visited by Gabriel on Dec. 25. That was the day Mary conceived Christ Jesus. He was born the following September. This is problematic to many who push any particular agenda. If Christ began to dwell with mankind when He was still in Mary's womb (hence all the gift giving, as God gifted us with Christ) well, then, according to GOD abortion is the murder of an already-begun LIFE. Oh, man! They couldn't have that, so they began to stir the puddle in hopes that no-one could see the bottom.
Also...for those grinches who say the Christmas tree is an idol, read Hosea ch.14. God calls Himself a Green Fir Tree. The presents beneath the tree represent the GIFT God gave us. Yup...Christ was a LIBRA, hence the scales.
Anyhoo, Rev. Murphy sez, "Merry CHRISTMAS, beloved bretheren!"
Throw away your crystal ball
December 20, 2007 - 15:27 ET by NBFHow do you know exactly when Jesus was conceived?
http://www.splendoroftruth.com/curtjester/archives/008579.php
well, you see...
December 20, 2007 - 21:54 ET by sentforth5In the Book of Luke you are given a time line that begins when Elisabeths's husband, Zacharias, was serving his liturgical duty for the temple. He performed the course of Abia, which has a specific date attached to it. You can count the days up to Elisabeth's pregnancy in it's six month with John(the baptist). Elisabeth and Mary were cousins, and when Gabriel finished his announcement of Mary's conception, Mary ran to tell Elisabeth what had happened and when she saw her, John lept for joy in Elisabeth's womb at the presence of Our Savior. It's not a crystal ball, it's Luke chapter 1. That date was Dec. 25.
