ABC Hyped Bill Clinton's Work to 'Save a Continent,' But Skipped George W. Bush in Africa
When Bill Clinton went to Africa in 2007 to fight AIDS, ABC hyped his important work "to save a continent." Diane Sawyer interviewed the ex-President and Kate Snow followed him to Africa. However, the same network has, thus far, skipped former President George W. Bush's efforts to fight cancer in the same area.
On the July 24, 2007, Good Morning America, Kate Snow excitedly related, "In Africa, they seem to be on a first-name basis with the former president, shouting 'Bill! Bill!'" On the July 20th GMA, Diane Sawyer hyped, "And President Bill Clinton weighs in, speaking out on the war, his work to save a continent..." Instead of praising Bush's work, Tuesday, the morning show devoted two segments to the divorce of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
CBS and NBC have also skipped the story. MSNBC's Chris Jansing explained, Tuesday, "And former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura are in Africa where they helped renovate a women's cancer screening center in Zambia...The Bush's are promoting a partnership to fight cervical and breast cancer in Sub Saharan Africa."
Unfortunately, unlike Kate Snow's story, there were no reports on whether Bush's name was chanted.
Politico had more on the visit:
President George W. Bush and Laura Bush are spending this week in Africa to launch a partnership to detect and fight cervical cancer.
The Bushes and their team started in Kabwe, Zambia, where they led a team of volunteers as they finished renovating the Ngungu Health Clinic. After the Bushes cut the ribbon on Tuesday, the clinic immediately began screening women for cervical cancer and treating them.
Bush’s message in his conversations in Africa has been that everyone should serve, and that to whom much is given, much is required – a point he often made when talking about the United States and the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which he started while in office.

the so called mainstream media are the true enemies of the United States. They conspire with the Democratic party to transform this nation into a socialist utopia which we all know is nothing but an ideaology when put into practice confiscates your liberty and destroys the human soul.

Good works in Africa by conservatives don't count, because everyone "knows" they just do it to hide the fact that they hate black people.
Good job, NOT!

Honestly, who cares what the empty-headed media thinks? GWB is doing good work to help people, and he doesn't do it because he wants attention but because it's the good Christian thing to do. Clinton, on the other hand, is a total media whore and would probably pack up and go home if he didn't have reporters clinging to him like remoras.

Ah - the Clinton Presidential legacy folder.
Africa - HIV/Aids in Africa. Perhaps nobody looked back at the Clinton era with a clearer view, than leftist David Corn, then national editor of the liberal magazine "The Nation." In his July 2002 piece, "Too little, too late - How many times is Bill Clinton going to apologize to Africa?," Corn explains:
When Clinton arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania, the U.S. government knew that an AIDS pandemic was coming in Africa. A 1991 classified study produced by the CIA predicted that by 2000 there would be 45 million people infected with AIDS virus, most in Africa. The following year, an unclassified version of the report, which was released by the State Department, foresaw infection rates of up to 30 percent for the sub-Saharan African population. For the next seven years -- while Clinton was in office -- the budget for combating AIDS overseas remained flat. (It was $124.5 million in 1992.)
As Kenneth Brown, the main author of the 1991 intelligence study, told The Washington Post in 2000, "Indifference -- that’s the right word." A 1995 National Intelligence Estimate confirmed the earlier predictions, but that prompted no change in Clinton policy.
The prevailing view was, these people should die quietly.
Indeed - Clinton screwed around, and millions died. We're talking about millions.
OH, and there were millions more, as well, who died as Clinton and the UN turned their collective backs on Africa.
Rwanda - Well, we all know now, but when Clinton went to Rwanda years later, he boldly promised that "Never Again," would the US and world bodies stand by and sit on their hands while such horror was being played out; however, next door:
Democratic Republic of the Congo - As Clinton spoke to Africa, the DR Congo, which borders and dwarfs Rwanda, had already entered into a horrific civil tribal war - a spill over from the Rwandan genocide of 1994 (800,000 slaughtered in 90 days).
By the time Clinton promised, "Never Again," this horror in the Congo was already occurring: Return to the Congo UK Guardian 2007 -- http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/video/2007/nov/02/congo -- Genocide (120,000 people) in the Eastern Congo in Feb. 1997 by the Tutsi army
The Clinton administration knew. Watch the video. Our national MSM doesn't want you to know. Heck, they are so incurious, perhaps they don't even know, as they only get curious, when a Republican is in the White House.
Estimates are that 2 1/2 - to 3 1/2 million human beings died in the DR Congo civil wars (The Rape Wars of the Congo) before the end of the Clinton term - the most deadly single conflict since the end of WW II. Now, there's a legacy for you.
And when ABC, CNN (Christiane Amanpour comes to mind) - and/or the George Clooney's do their multi-part specials on horrific civil wars, genocide's, etc., in Africa - they've somehow not only forgot to ask Bill Clinton about them, they don't even mention the DR Congo. Clinton's legacy must be protected for the Democratic Party to survive today.
Other horrific events in Africa also went generally unnoticed during Clinton's second term; Blood Diamonds, Sierra Leone, the Ivory Coast, Liberia and Darfur.
Note: President Bush would come to Washington, and show the world what real leadership and vision would be in delivering aid to which ultimately would be shown to save over a million lives, while preventing millions more in new infections. Bush's PEPFAR plan, is now recognized as one of the most effective comprehensive models ever implemented.
And, of course, the people of Africa know who their American hero is. Ask anyone in Liberia which US President delivered them from Charles Taylor, and is responsible for getting him convicted for Crimes Against Humanity. It ain't Bill Clinton.

Normal Americans are very aware of the caring work done by Pres. Bush and Laura. And, also believe, they know in their heart, how they helped. If the liberal media wants to keep bragging about the pres. who disgraced the White House and Americans, so be it, as it will never change. Liberals are so concerned about Conservative behavior and never mention the disgrace their party has shown and keeps showing daily. They refuse to acknowledge the people are much smarter and wiser and pay no attention to their constant bias reporting. It has become the norm and also very boring
