Scott Wolf, the star of a new show about evil aliens who use superficial journalists to take over the planet, appeared on Monday’s Good Morning America and compared his "morally compromised" character to real-life CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. The V star asserted that "Chad Decker" doesn’t have much "gravitas" and added, "He's more of Anderson Cooper-y."

In the program, which premiered November 3 on ABC, Wolf’s fictional reporter scored an exclusive interview with "Anna," the lead alien, who is secretly plotting to take over the planet. She instructed him, "Just be sure not to ask anything that would paint us in a negative light." After he explained journalists must ask tough questions, Anna delivered this punch line: "That was not my understanding." [Audio available here.]

Under the threat of losing such a high-profile interview, Decker backpedaled and offered a promise to be "fair." The scene, which some conservatives might think reflects coverage the Obama administration has received, continued. The alien lectured, "You'll need to be more than fair if you want to proceed...We can't be seen in a negative light."

On the November 2 GMA, after Wolf made his crack about Cooper, co-host Chris Cuomo jumped in and defended his CNN colleague: "Whoa, not to say that Anderson doesn't have gravitas. What, are you trying to kill us?"

In an interview on AOL Television, Wolf was slightly more diplomatic. Speaking of who he based the character on, the star asserted, "There wasn't any one person. He's scripted as an Anderson Cooper-wannabe. I took that to mean he's a modern-day newsman."

An example of Anderson Cooper doing a “Chad Decker” impression might be on March 21, 2008 when he conducted a softball interview with Barack Obama, failing to press the presidential candidate on many of Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s more incendiary remarks. At one point, Cooper sympathetically told the Democrat that his opponents would "use" patriotism against him.

A transcript of the exchange on GMA and then a transcript from the November 3 premiere of V, can be found below:

CHRIS CUOMO: So who is the role model for the character portrayal?

SCOTT WOLF (Star of V): You know, you factored in.

CUOMO: No, I didn't. No, I didn't.

WOLF: Yeah, I play, I play a morally compromised news journalist.

CUOMO: Maybe it is me.

WOLF: No, the morally - compromised part had nothing to do with you. But, you know, he's kind of a modern day, he's not sort of the gravitas- parochial, you know, Walter Cronkite. He's more of Anderson Cooper-y. He's kind of-

CUOMO: Whoa, not to say that Anderson doesn't have gravitas. What, are you trying to kill us?

WOLF: No, no, no, no. I'm going to get a letter. No, no, but there's a sense that he's sort of someone you know who's kind of telling you the truth. It's not sort of talking down to you, and there's this connection and, but he gets this incredible opportunity. He speaks to the leader of the aliens.

CUOMO: Don't give it all away.

WOLF: Yeah, I know, I know, I know.

SAM CHAMPION: When does it air?

CUOMO: The premiere episode of 'V" airs Tuesday, November 3rd at 8:00 PM, ET, that's Eastern time, not extraterrestrial, on ABC.

CHAMPION: And consider the newscaster to be- Like, Chris is very newsy. So, it would be- like, Chris-light is the way I would see the newscaster.

"CHAD DECKER" (Scott Wolf): Thanks again for choosing me to do this.

ALIEN LEADER (Morena Baccarin): I'm really excited. so are we.

"DECKER": Do you have any questions before we go to air?

ALIEN LEADER: No. Just be sure not to ask anything that would paint us in a negative light.

"DECKER": Excuse me?

ALIEN LEADER: Don't ask any questions that would portray us negatively. Ask ones like you did when we first met.

"DECKER": Oh, I think there's a mistake. I’m a journalist. It's my job to ask questions even if they make the other person uncomfortable.

ALIEN LEADER: That was not my understanding.

VOICE: Standing by to go to air.

"DECKER": Afraid I don't have a choice.

ALIEN LEADER: This interview is now canceled.

"DECKER": Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on. hang on. Look, this is just how it's done. I swear I'll be fair.

ALIEN LEADER: You'll need to be more than fair if you want to proceed.

VOICE: Two minutes to air.

ALIEN LEADER: We can't be seen in a negative light. This interview would elevate your career, wouldn't it, Mr. Decker? Don't you want to elevate your career?

Anderson Pooper

"He's more of Anderson Cooper-y."

Oh, so he enjoys teabagging too.

After he explains

After he explains journalists must ask tough questions, "Anna" delivers this punch line: "That was not my understanding."

There are polling numbers that show vast numbers of people are aware that the elitist media is biased/propagandist. This joke makes me wonder if the real numbers are even higher than we knew.

It's fine to see some humor poking at the elitist media, but I worry about the Alex Jones types who will take this literally. They've proved over & over they'll believe any conspiracy theory. I'm not convinced they understand the dividing line between truth & fiction.

We are dealing with a perfectly straightforward case of marxist/corporatist propaganda; OK, infowars ppl? No aliens. I promise!

Anderson Cooper was unable to reply...

seems his mouth was full.

Wrong

He was on a conference call with Gibbs and A-Rod, checking whether CNNs numbers had risen into the realm of visibility.

Chris the Wide Mouth Frog was pouting (that was a hard thing to do) and Keith "I can see something alien in my bathtub" the Sports Boy did not appear for a live shot ... again.

Anderson Cooper with a "Full Mouth"..

I been wondering why poor little Anderson Cooper has been outed as a "fudge packed" girlfriend to his muscle bound boyfriend.....

Many have guessed this was the case for years - with no "insider information".....  Now his cover is BLOWN - literally.

Who did he cross or insult that could have led to the embarrassing reports of his bubble bath shenanigans with his boyfriend?

What about the "Universal Healthcare" line?

Yeah, this floored me the other night. Can't believe hollywood of all places would write something so reminiscent of The Obama News Networks.

"If God is dead, somebody is going to have to take his place. It will
be megalomania or erotomania, the drive for power or the drive for
pleasure, the clenched fist or the phallus, Hitler or Hugh Hefner."

— Malcolm Muggeridge

It really was a hoot

I recorded the show and had to watch it twice, it was just as funny the second time.

Hard to believe they actually put this on the air.

I think that they're bait and switching us

I think this series is setting conservatives up for a fall.

If I recall correctly, much of the original series was about "the resistance". In fact, I believe the mini-series even started with a dedication to "Resistance fighters everywhere" or some such.

Pretty soon the Visitors will be seen as occupiers and the humans will be fighting a terrorist-type resistance effort to battle the occupying force.

Much like they did in Battlestar Galactica Season 3.

So, don't gloat about this being an "conservative show" just yet.

Can't say you aren't right, CJ...

But keep in mind, the goal of the aliens is to turn humans into canned food, and pretty much, the viewing audience knows that (except the least informed out there).  If they try to compare the humans to the terrorists in Iraq, thus equating the U.S.of A. to the aliens, they'll look really stupid.

At least in Galactica, while i didn't like the little "terrorist/freedom fighter" game they played with the script, the Cylon motives were still not known by the viewing audience, and at that point, not necessarily malevolant.

But you never know, the libtards in jollywood have been known to propagandize in the most creative ways.

Re BSG

Galactica was a valuable property with immense potential; it started out fine but quickly degenerated into adolescent morality plays and liberal political correctness. The technology was flawed, but so was the original. Plots quickly became stretched and weak. Casting was mediocre. The wooden McDonnell is a waste of any slot. They lost me completely the season on the planet.

Agreed Slick

100% agreement on your statements about BSG.  It should of been a show with a 2 or 3 season life span.  Everything after that was just filler chasing the big ratings.

That part of not painting

That part of not painting them in a negative light doesn't sound familiar, Michelle, cough, Obama, cough

Before the comparisons to

Before the comparisons to the Obama Administration-for-life and their sycophantic news media get out of hand, expect the writers and cast members to reaffirm their liberal credentials and deny the comparison of the plot to anything except the Bush Administration - per the usual chain of events.

The "Mainstream" Media: By liberals. For liberals.

Well, obviously, they just didn't materialize yesterday.

They had to fly here in some physical way, which takes time, time that GWB did NOT use to observe them, prepare defenses, and respond appropriately with Miranda Warnings.

If you thought the 9/11 Truthers were onto something, this is much bigger. And if you don't believe me, then you, sir, are a Double Denier.

Followed up by the stab to the neck

I loved how the first thing Alien Leader Anna says in the televized interview is that Decker should feel free to ask her anything.  Like ripping his heart out and holding it in front of him as his integrity dies.

If you read about the original "V" miniseries (or watch the miniseries DVD with commentary turned on), the writer/director intended to dramatize a free society descending into fascism/totalitarianism.  The aliens were added later.

So sayeth raaawwwwmmmm emanuellll

Cooper is lacking much

I'll never forget how Cooper initially mentioned Rev. Wright's ties to Obama last year. About having to report on the matter, “Can't we just get past this,” Cooper complained. It appeared that information he didn't like about the relatively unknown Senator did not warrant Cooper's scrutiny.

And after his obsession with the concept of “teabagging,” the responsibilities of a journalist seem to be “above his pay grade,” to use a phrase from the election.

Not true but accurate.

How in the heck did this ever pass network censors? Definitly not the usual msm party line, even tho the msm does routinely sell out the USA.

I read a report that they

I read a report that they have already changed the show runner due to "problems with the script". So the O, I mean V, have people in the top levels of ABC. Shouldn't effect the first four episodes.

V = a lousy TV show

‘V’ is a stupid TV show.   The plot is absurd.  Any of the Star Trek series TV shows are much more entertaining and have better plots with good story lines.  The viewer can relate to the future as depicted in Star Trek; especially the ‘Next Generation’ series.

You have trouble with

You have trouble with tribbles while we have trouble with Obama?

Careful. If your not with

Careful.

If your not with the "V"'s and universal health care, then you might be a racist /sic

I left the Republican party because the Republic party went to the LEFT of me.

I'll second that hwm

I remember when the first V came out when I was a kid.  It was way too corny for me, and I watched the A-Team on a regular basis.

As for Anderson Cooper, he is the Earl Camembert of cable news.

Mr. T

I pity the fool that didn't watch the A-Team.

Doesn't he look like a young

Doesn't he look like a young Stephanopolis?

The Universal health care line was hilarious !

I left the Republican party because the Republic party went to the LEFT of me.

Rerun's ?

I missed the first instalment of this is there anyway to watch this?

Best way to watch television programs, strip out all the commercials and watch it at your leisure.

hulu.com

Hulu.com is also a good source to watch V and many other shows.  They have commercial ads on them, but they range from about 15 seconds at a minimum to a minute long at the most, but an average of 30 seconds during breaks.  Sometimes they have a big long commercial at the beginning that might last 2-3 minutes long and that's the only time you see it, the rest of the viewing is commercial free.

I really enjoy going to that site for various shows.  And my brain hasn't been turned to pudding or anything. ;-)

The full episiode

works just as well

It works just as well as Hulu.com, either one works.  I'd prefer hulu personally because the abc,nbc and other hosting sites for shows tend to be a bit slower in response.

Hi John

I rarely watch tv online because I have a DVR, I have watched Hulu in the past and liked it.

Here is my personal favorite site for this type of thing, It has everything from Hulu to Southpark to ummm different alternative websites. It is a Goldmine for different shows.
