There's a new potential excuse out there for Obama backers fearing a racial tinge to the election results next Tuesday.
As NewsBuster's Tim Graham noted, Newsweek has been proactive enough to suggest that only racism can launch McCain into the White House at this point.
The Hartford Courant offers a different rationale, however (As if there is anything rational about calling someone who doesn't vote for your candidate, a racist).
Yes, the new terminology offered by the Hartford Courant is ‘unconscious racism.' Meaning if you pull the lever for McCain on Election Day, you are not only a racist, but you're too stupid to realize it.
No word yet on whether the 84% of African Americans who are voting for Obama should be considered ‘conscious racists.'
The support for this argument is a scenario involving an African-American who was running late to a meeting with a client, and when he arrived, was subsequently mistaken for the wait staff.
That's how you will be characterized as a supporter of McCain - The greedy corporate white man who assumes that every African American can only be employed as a waiter. Except, you won't even know just how racist you are.
Other examples provided by the Courant:
It's the well-meaning comment about how "articulate" an African American colleague is, or the white boss who passes up a black job candidate over fear of being accused of racism if the person is ever disciplined or fired.
Calling an African American ‘articulate' makes you an unconscious racist? Congratulations Joe Biden, you're a racist! I wonder if Joe will be voting for McCain/Palin.
The Courant continues with their racist rant on racism saying:
In the case of the presidential election, it's the white person who finds himself in the privacy of the voting booth and just can't bring himself to vote for an African American but would never identify that reluctance as racism.
They offer no proof of such a ridiculous claim and what's worse, there is no mention of the black person who will be voting for the African American candidate simply because of the color of his skin. Rush Limbaugh, not surprisingly, offers a far more compelling and intelligent argument for the concept of reverse racism citing the Colin Powell endorsement.
The fact remains that only the liberal media will make such a claim on racism, and then not back them up with something called logic.
It's time the Hartford Courant takes a look into the proverbial mirror, and understands that running such a ridiculous article makes them the ‘unconscious racists.'

Lucky for us, we have the moral pioneers like the staff of the Hartford Courant to guide us into enlightenment.

Star Trek's white-black, black-white redux?
October 27, 2008 - 23:59 ET by wdhorningAnd it must be conscious stupidity to vote for Obama, who will oppress minorities more than whites. That's right, I said what you thought I said.
You see, it is blacks and other minorities who have had on average more obstacles to "getting ahead". So blacks and minorities must work even harder than whitey to get ahead, according to most blacks anyway. Thus an Obama tax increase on those making over $250,000 means:
Remember, Obama is only half black and really does not understand all this.
So if I vote for Obama, who is half-white, does that make be a racist against whites, because if it does not, then neither does voting against Obama make anyone a racist, either.
The argument is just asinine.
Personal note: It is of course wrong that some minorities have had to work harder than some whites, though this is gradually changing. And it is the consensus of minorities this is true. Thus since it is true, then it is also true minorities are relatively hurt more than others, since they worked harder to get ahead by the same amount as others.
And what about less fortunate minorities? Well, growing wealth provides more wealth to distribute. But punishing the hard workers who grow wealth for distribution by spending it and investment, will squash their incentive to work as hard, thus reducing the growth of wealth to be spread around whether by spending/investment or by taxation.
In short, more taxation leads to a smaller growth of weath for distribution (one way or the other) and less taxation leads to larger growth of weath for distribution (one way or the other). You cannot have a 0% tax rate or a 100% tax rate of course. The question really is a what tax rate maximizes the growth of wealth for distribution by both spending/investment and by providing relief for the poor who are unable to work?
Well the answer to the optimum tax rate is usually relative, not absolute, since economic condition vary, mostly beyond anyone's control, for example, hurricans and earthquakes. But is not too hard to understand when it is time to raise taxes and when it is better to lower them, and which demographic group should be taxed more or taxed less. Economists make recommendations to Congress and Congress acts accordingly, right? Wrong. Politics outweighs recommendations, and so the politicians screw it up as usual.
In the Obama-McCain tax plans, in a time of economic distress, the best thing is to help businesses by lowering taxes, since they are the backbone of maintaining employment for workers in tough economic times. I mean what good is a middle class tax cut to someone who got laid off by a company that Obama "taxes out of business"?
Conversely, in could economic times, taxes can be raised a tad, but keep in mind that in good ecomic times, the government automatically gets more money. So the government, in bad economic times needs to "encourage" the economy by the best taxation policy. That is what McCain's plan does best.

October 27, 2008 - 16:07 ET by GeneralAlMaybe I'm too stupid to know I'm voting against Obama because I'm unconsciously racist but I'm not too stupid to know I'm very consciously against Communists/Marxists/Leninists/Stalinists! The big difference between me and those voting for the Obamessiah is idealogy versus mythology! I don't give a rat's rear about his race! I am concerned about his idealogical views and too bad, so sad! They don't match up to mine! I'm a free market capitalist. I'm against the government sticking its nose in my business! By the way, isn't it blatent hypocrisy the way the libs talk about free speech, freedom of choice, and legislating morality and yet that is the foundation of their existence? Changing The Colors
October 27, 2008 - 16:22 ET by melpolhttp://www.associate...
Legend tells us that if we change the colors we wear, our fortunes will also change. That is why a gambler who is on a lucky streak will not change his clothes. Changing clothes can also break a bad luck streak. The same is true in the presidential elections when a candidate of a different color is running on the platform of change. Most Americans are going through a period of bad luck in the stock market and in other spheres of life. A vote for Obama is a vote for a change of color and a change of bad luck. But for those that believe color and luck are not connected Obama has many inner talents that will produce the change you so desperately need. His roots are spread out which gives him the experience needed to be a leader of all people regardless of the color of their skin. So any way you look at it a vote for Obama is a change to a luck filled future.

You're either for Obama or you're a racist
October 27, 2008 - 17:24 ET by krendlerBill and Hillary found that out during the Dem primary when both were accused of being racists, using "racially charged code words" (like "kid" and "fairy tale").
Then Obama lost the NH primary and we got to listen to dopes like Eugene Robinson regrettfully inform us that the voters in that state were racist.
Add Ferraro to that list of course.
Fascinating to watch liberals trivialize such a serious issue - racism - in the name of getting their candidate elected - even if it means throwing Bill Clinton under the bus.
The whole "only racists aren't voting for Obama" thing is a national joke at this point, unless you're part of the Cult of Obama.

October 27, 2008 - 21:07 ET by pmohbuckmost of the people trolling around in their crappy, obama-decal-infested prius and obama signs stuck in their front yards are white ... doing everything in their power to convince everyone that putting a decal on a car or a sign in their yard proves they're not racist ... it's laughable. typical liberal attitude ... heavy on advertisement, light on substance.

October 27, 2008 - 23:03 ET by zachlindAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2006 Connecticut was 84.6 % white. I assume The Hartford Courant executive suites are similarly staffed?

October 27, 2008 - 23:28 ET by MeowMeowThis whole notion chaps my hide. I have a master's degree, so I assure any Democrat who'd make the charge: I'm not racist. If McCain were espousing the same ideology as Obama, and Obama held McCain's position, I would vote for the more conservative of the two. Period. Skin color be damned.
And nice call about the reverse racism. It's okay for blacks to vote overwhelmingly for Obama, and no one questions that. But someone would question me -- an informed, educated voter.
