I see your point. I would however counter the importance of this a few ways.

History - With the flag on the lapel, and hand over the heart stories having already been circulated, it is clear that the average person does find it important when a presidential candidate makes a gaffe like this.

Media - Would the media fail to mention this if McCain, had made a similar mistake? Past seems to indicate otherwise. In fact, McCain has had his issues with the press regarding a different kind of flag.

Position - This is the potential President of the United States. Wouldn't it behoove him, or someone on his staff to check into flag protocol prior to printing the tickets?

My wife and I recently bought our first house, and shortly thereafter, a flag to fly proudly from our porch. Before hanging the flag, I visited every Web site I could find to make sure I had it facing the right direction, read up on when it could be flown, studied the proper procedure for taking it down, and on and on. Now, if Johnny Average-Citizen can take those steps to ensure they are treating the flag of the United States with proper respect, shouldn't a candidate for the highest office in the land?

Another question that comes to mind is, how will Obama respond if this does indeed upset people on some level? You would expect him to respond with an apology, state that this was an innocent mistake, and send out different ticket designs if necessary. And I hope that he does.

I think you're right in the overall scheme of things this might be minor on the scale of importance. But I do think it's at least an interesting topic for the readers of this site.

With a string in the bottom, the flag will be rightside up when someone looks at the wearer and the wearer can meditate on the right side up Obamessiah in between activities. It can be the latest approach to navel gazing!

Seriously, the man is an idiot when it comes to the symbols of our country.  Let's see:

Doesn't understand putting his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is played.

Doesn't wear a flag pin because he thinks it's too obviously patriotic (this from a presidential candidate?).

Thinks it's cool to rip off the Presidential Seal and use it as his own?

Doesn't understand that an upside down American flag is a symbol of distress? 

He's too dumb to be a Boy Scout leader, much less a U.S. Senator.

I agree that the upside down flag is no mistake.  In fact, the lefty websites are encouraging people to fly flags upside down as a protest of the Bush Administration.

"Flying the American flag upside-down has a specific and long-held meaning: it is an internationally recognized sign of “dire distress” signifying “extreme danger to life or property” (US Code Chapter 10, 176). Any other display of the flag with the union side down is categorized as disrespect."  

So it would come as no surprise that this would be done deliberately for the Dem's convention. 

I personally find the explanation that the blue field is simply Obama's shirt blending into the flag is complete nonsense.

The back of the credential is the exact same print, minus 'the saviors' head. So, unless they are claiming that the back is nothing more than a floating shirt, you can already start to see the lies.
