MSNBC Host Spews Notion That President Will Get ‘Tough,’ ‘Pertinent’ and ‘Real’ Questions From the Women on The View

By Rachel Burnett | July 27, 2010 | 15:40

On Thursday July 29th, President Barack Obama will appear on "The View." This appearance will mark the first time in history that a sitting president will be on a daytime talk show.

However this is great for the President, according to "Morning Joe" co-host Mike Barnicle who pronounced, "You know, I would be willing to bet you, I would be willing to bet you that he might get tougher questions asked of him on The View than he would at a White House press conference."

Barnicle and fellow co-host Mika Brzezinski enthused that "The View" will probe President Obama with "pertinent" and "real" questions that "resonate more with the way people live in this country."

Perhaps the questions will be from Brzezinski herself. She gushed over a phone conversation with View co-host Joy Behar, touting, she is "fabulous," "cool," and "I love her."

This is the same Behar that recently belittled Christians saying that prayer is illogical and "takes the place of thinking." Behar also suggested that saints were mentally ill because they were "hearing voices" and "Now that we have all of this medication available to us, you can’t find a saint anymore."

A transcript for the July 27, 2010, segment is available here:

WILLIE GEIST: President Obama will appear on "The View" this week. They're taping the interview tomorrow. It's going to air on Thursday. He's going to sit down with the gals. We're America’s breakfast table. We have to change them, America's brunch buffet?
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: They're just fabulous.
GEIST: They're the best.

BRZEZINSKI: I was talking to Joy last night.

GEIST: What a name dropper.

BRZEZINSKI: She's so cool. I love her.

GEIST: I was chatting with Joy Behar last night.

BRZEZINSKI: I love her. Well, she's the only one who talks to me. Don't worry.

GEIST: Joy never calls me. So the President is going to sit down.

BRZEZINSKI: No one else ever calls me.

GEIST: President Obama is going into the lion's den with, Sherri, Whoopi, Joy, Elizabeth and of course Barbara Walters herself. Here's Whoopi making the announcement yesterday.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: This is really big news, okay? Thursday's show, July 29th our guest will be President Barack Obama. It's the first time, the first time in history that a sitting president will be appearing on a daytime talk show.

GEIST: Very cool. Surprised he's doing it, Pat?

PAT BUCHANAN: I'm very surprised. I think it diminishes the President a little bit to bring him into that kind of setting.

GEIST: How dare you, sir.

BRZEZINSKI: Did you just say that?

BUCHANAN: Well, what if he's goes on the stage with Lady Gaga to get the youth vote? I mean, this is ridiculous.

BRZEZINSKI: No, no, Pat Buchanan.
GEIST: That's unfair. We love The View.

BRZEZINSKI: Don't talk about my friends that way, Sherri and Joy, they are the best.

BRZEZINSKI:  I clarify Sherri talks to me.

GEIST: Would Ronald Reagan, would you have advised President Reagan to go on "The View" ?

BUCHANAN: No, Nixon made that mistake; I think he went on Sock it to Me on "Laugh-In." I was against that. That was '67 when he was a candidate. Obama did this when he's a candidate. As the President he's got a sense of majesty and a sense of distance between yourself and the people because he's Chief of State as well as head of government. Do you agree with that, Richard?

BRZEZINSKI: He wanted to talk about Pakistan.

MIKE BARNICLE: You know, I would be willing to bet you, I would be willing to bet you that he might get tougher questions asked of him on "The View" than he would at a White House press conference.

BRZEZINSKI: Yeah. Watch out for Joy.

BARNICLE: More real. More where we live.

BRZEZINSKI There you go.

BUCHANAN: What does that say about Chuck Todd there?

GEIST: No, they don't have to cover him every day.

BARNICLE: They ask pertinent questions. But I think the questions that will be asked of him on "The View" might resonate more with the way people live in this country.

BRZEZINSKI: Yes, he'll connect.
