The hills of Los Angeles are burning and the media keep finding reasons to blame global warming.
CNN found a way to work global warming into its reporting on a national tragedy on October 23.
During “Anderson Cooper 360: In the Line of Fire,” CNN’s Tom Foreman even looked into his crystal ball to predict the future by warning of a possible “century of fires, just like what we're seeing now” as a result of global warming.
Foreman cautioned viewers that, “greater periods of rain” that fuel “increased vegetation growth” over the next century may provide a “potential link between these fires and global warming.”
Video: Windows (2.57 MB), or MP3 audio (335 kB).
Earlier in the broadcast Cooper also plugged CNN’s documentary:
At the top of the next hour, as I said, the big picture. These fires are really a piece of it. Fire, drought, global warming, climate change, deforestation, it is all connected, tonight, 9:00 p.m. Eastern…‘Planet in Peril’ starts in just 30 minutes.
But was there a source refuting the claims that global warming was to blame for the fires in California? Nope. Not one.As Brent Baker pointed out on October 23, “NBC Nightly News” also tried to link global warming to the California fires that night. As the L.A. punk band Bad Religion said with their single, “Los Angeles is Burning,” chronicling wildfires during 2004: "And I cannot believe the media Mecca, They're only trying to peddle reality, Catch it on prime time, story at nine, The whole world is going insane."

October 24, 2007 - 13:16 ET by Six String SpiffYou see, when ever we have a legitimate complaint about a supposed 'news' program (virtually ALL of the evening broadcasts for instance) we get a complaint from the lefties that they have issue with TALK SHOW HOSTS. Those are two completely different things. One reads 'news' from a teleprompter that some liberal has carefully put together while the other is somebody who actually presents BOTH SIDES of the argument. Why do you liberal babies have to piss and moan SO MUCH over one network? Do you see how ridiculous you are? I guess not.

Interesting, Fox is a respectable, unbiased news source when the news being reported is pre-packaged to fit the White House/right wing agenda, but then, when the information is simply too ridiculous and must be explained away, well, then it’s entertainment?
So, which is it?
Oh you'll have to excuse me
October 24, 2007 - 14:42 ET by MightyMouthOh you'll have to excuse me that was my opinion of the F&F show. They do show the news, without comentary, but that part of F&F is not being questioned. The commentary part is being questioned vs the "News" presentation at CNN. And btw how does asking if Al-Q could be responsible for wild fires be bias? And another thing, anyone who sees Fox news as "pre-packaged to fit the White House/right wing agenda" has got a f***in screw loose.

October 24, 2007 - 14:49 ET by JimboThe fact that liberals get so rabid about how slanted Fox is just goes to show you how far left their thinking really is. If they see the MSM as "balanced", then by definition they think that the MSM slams liberals as often as they give them a free ride. If that's the case, they are so far left then they are beyond any hope of being saved.

You know, this is why Liberals think that all of America is racist, because they are racist. This is why Liberals think everyone in America is a homophobe, because they are. Liberals feel guilty for their homophobia, their racism, their intolerance, their closed minded, they want to be filthy rich and kick the poor to the curb, so in order to not go crazy they rationalize their inhumane behavior by claiming everyone is just like them.
This somehow makes them feel less guilty. "If everyone is doing it and feels like me, why should I feel guilty?" I actually have Liberals friends here in Chicago that have admitted this much to me.
Another difference is that
October 24, 2007 - 15:36 ET by futbolisgreat1Another difference is that this site, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Free Republic, RedState, HotAir and the countless of other Conservative places don't pretend to be down the middle, they tell you right upfront that they are right-wingers. Even the none news shows on Foxnews, they hosts will tell the audience that they are right-wingers.
CNN, New York Times, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, even left wing site like Thinkprogress.org, DailyKos, Huffington Post, etc pretend to be down the middle, yet it is well known that they all lean to the left or far left.
I mean Keith Olbermann claims to be non-biased in his reporting! and MSNBC backs this piece of garbage. Tim Russert, Geroge Stephanopolous, 60 minutes same thing. When they all lean to the left or far left.
Can a Liberal tell the difference, of course not!

October 24, 2007 - 23:49 ET by MikeBActually, nick, this sight (sic) does not report Ann's opinion as fact. What is reported as fact is the typical rabid lib response to a statement that Ann has made. The fact that Ann made the statement is reported as fact. All of us here know that Ann's statements are Ann's opinions. Some here agree with Ann on a particular statement, some disagree.
Now, in typical leftist transference, you accuse the right (us) of doing what you on the left do constantly. We have seen the comments at DailyKos, HuffingtonPost, et al, after Keith Olbermann, that great journalist makes a statement. Talk about a group taking an opinion as gospel fact!

I found this USGS website
October 24, 2007 - 13:40 ET by ahusserI found this USGS website and took some quotes from the Phd who made the report:
"...One of the largest fires in Los Angeles County (60,000 acres) occurred in 1878, and the largest fire in Orange County’s history, in 1889, was over half a million acres. Collectively, the 1920s, 1940s, and 1970s were high decades for acreage burned, and the 1930s and 1960s were low. Explanations for these patterns are that they (1) result from decadal scale variation in climate, (2) are natural cycles resulting from fuel buildup, and (3) are driven by human demographic patterns. The scientists discussed in detail evidence for and against these in the book chapter.
Among their conclusions are the following: Throughout much of the shrubland landscape humans play a dominant role in promoting fires beyond what was likely the natural fire cycle. Future climate change is expected to have a minor role in altering fire regimes on shrubland landscapes relative to other global changes such as population growth and habitat fragmentation. Future fire management needs to take a strategic approach to prefire fuel manipulations and move beyond evaluating effectiveness strictly in terms of area treated. Fire management should consider designing strategies tailored to different regions as there are marked differences between the central coastal region and southern California in source of ignition, season of burning, and historical patterns of population growth and burning..."
