There's a tape out there somewhere when Maher was on a game show. Pictionary, I think. He was leaning over the shoulder of another contestant. The guy made an expansive, sudden gesture and smacked Maher right in the nose. Knocked him on his rear end.

I wouldn't mind watching that tape a few hundred times more, but I wouldn't have any idea of how to find it.

Farrakhan Says 'New Beginning' For Nation of Islam

CHICAGO (AP) ― The Nation of Islam, a secretive movement generally closed to outsiders, has planned a rare open-to-the public event at its Chicago-based headquarters in what the Minister Louis Farrakhan deemed a "new beginning" for the group.

Hundreds of religious leaders of different faiths have been invited to the event planned for Sunday, a rededication of the group's historic Mosque Maryam on the city's South Side. Farrakhan is scheduled to speak.

"We have restored Mosque Maryam completely, and we will dedicate it to the universal message of Islam, and the universal aspect of the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad," Farrakhan said in an invitation letter. "It represents for the Nation of Islam, a new beginning."

The event comes just weeks after the death of Imam W.D. Mohammed, the son of Nation founder Elijah Muhammad who broke with the group and moved thousands of African-Americans toward mainstream Islam.

The Nation purchased the mosque, a former Greek Orthodox church, in 1972 and has since been making renovations. The stately 1948 structure, embellished with a golden dome and topped with an Islamic crescent moon, is adorned with Quranic verses in Arabic.

Experts say opening the mosque's doors to the public is a calculated move.

"It is a very conscious effort to open the mosque up to the community and to rededicate the community to learning about Islam," said Aminah McCloud, a professor of Islamic studies at DePaul University. "Previously, the Nation has been open to people coming to visit it, but its members don't generally go anywhere else ... now there is a concerted effort."

While the Nation has espoused black nationalism and self-reliance since it was founded in the 1930s, in recent years members have reached out to other groups. For instance, the Nation has a Latino liaison and has become involved in immigrant rights rallies and marches. Also, the Minister Ishmael Muhammad, a top assisting minister at the mosque and widely thought to be a potential successor to Farrakhan, has talked about unity between all people, at times speaking in Spanish.

Farrakhan, 75, has haltingly tried to move the Nation toward traditional Islam, which considers the American movement heretical because of its view of Elijah Muhammad as a prophet -- among other novel teachings. Orthodox Islam teaches that there has been no prophet after Prophet Muhammad in the seventh century.

He's also played down some of the group's more controversial beliefs. The Nation of Islam has taught that whites are descended from the devil and that blacks are the chosen people of Allah.

The event on Sunday also wraps up a week of events marking the 13th anniversary of the Million Man March, which Farrakhan began in 1995. That year, hundreds of thousands of people traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate.

On Thursday, Farrakhan spoke to inmates at Cook County jail urging self improvement, atonement and reconciliation, principles the Million Man March promoted.

Those values "can help reduce violence and anti-social behavior ... and have universal significance and will benefit those willing to listen," according to a statement from the Nation.

Farrakhan's Sunday speech will mark his second major public address this year and is among several smaller community and religious events he has attended.

His public appearances have surprised many since in 2006, he seceded leadership to an executive board while recuperating from serious complications from prostate cancer.

In February, Farrakhan appeared at an annual Saviours' Day event in Chicago and called Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama the "hope of the entire world" that the U.S. will change for the better. The Obama campaign quickly denounced Farrakhan's support, because of past comments about Jews that many have called offensive.

In the past months, Farrakhan has attended funeral services of W.D. Mohammed and Jabir Herbert Muhammad, both sons of the late Elijah Muhammad.

There are times when I truly believe that reality has fractured and I've fallen down the rabbit hole. No, they are not acid flashbacks and unlike Bill, I can  pass a drug test. :-} It is due to the fact that events like Bill and Larry talkling this pure jibberish actually took place. If the nonsequential rantings of those two imbeciles is what passes for intelligent banter these days, then we are all doomed. 

Another "has the world gone insane" provoking event that is happenning right before our eyes is this; The manufactured opinion outlets are attacking Joe the Plumber's name. I'm sure you've seen the post's here on NB and I'm sure you've heard the attacks, so there is no need to rehash it. However, is that not the most idiotic, insane an irrelevant smear campaign to have ever taken place? The simply fact that they attack his name leaves me for a loss. I thought that I had become inured to their incompetence, yet this latest scenario has proven me wrong. I am once again forced to wonder through which side of the looking glass I am viewing the world.

I think I'll go read Atlas Shrugged again. Maybe it's time to find Galt's Gulch.

And Maher said,"They prey on people like "Joe the Plumber," who don't really understand the issues.

Again, apparently, it's Senator Obama Democratic, candid for the POTUS, who doesn't really understand the issues.

The entire national media interest here, w/Bill Maher jumping on the frantic and desperate bandwagon, is in trying to pick apart "Joe the Plumber's" tax sense, in the packaged effort of showcasing how they wish to spin Obama's understanding of tax policy to be superior. Should not the first point in order here be for them to notice the little lie from Obama right there in the video tape?

Right off the top, Obama just out and out lied to Joe. Obama said: 

 "we haven't given a break to folks who make less." 

 

He was comparing poorer and middle income folks to wealthier folks - like himself; trying to diss the higher tax breaks and stating that the worker bee did not receive any tax breaks during the past 8 years. Really - Mars must be lonely this time of year, Bill.

For the record, the Bush administration, with congress, did in fact give poorer and middle class working folks significant tax breaks; all middle and lower tax rates were lowered, with the 15% lower bracket being cut to 10% (a 50% reduction); child tax credit was doubled; and the marriage penalty tax trap was fixed - and it helped a ton. They extended the AMT adjustment each and every year. In 2001 they received a tax rebate, pushed by the Democrats - eventually Bush gave in and gave them most of what they wanted there. In 2008, for goodness sakes, once again, we are given a tax rebate, a larger one, a part of a stimulus package. Many middle class workers invest in the equity markets and did in fact benefit from lower capital gains tax and lower dividend tax rates.

Main street [middle class] workers; those making much less than "rich folks like Obama" received significant reductions in tax liability - during these years. Obama has the right to argue that it was not enough - that it was not fair. That's not what he did - in this much covered event, Obama lied - and the entire national media blinked? Obama lied to the taxpaying workers in the country. Last month he lied to the seniors on the Bush and McCain positions, trying to scare them into believing, falsely, that they would loose their benefits if McCain was elected. Shameless.

These people are fools.  Whether he lied or not is irrelevant.  They continue to toss aside the Socialism that Obama spewed.  Was he baited into it?  I don't care, and it's irrelevant.  An American asked him a question, and he's a candidate and would be a fool to brush it off.

These goofs surely aren't concerned with any of Obama's lies.  Guess who's running for president?  It ain't Joe the Plumber.

If Barack Obama was on my street going door to door, I'll say right now that if I wanted to get him to explain his Socialism to the world and had a video camera to get it on tape, the best way would be to ask the question in the form of a real-life scenario.  A true one or not, that would be irrelevant.  I already know his answer, but millions of Americans don't, so my question would be not for me, but for many more.

And to Joe Wurzelbacher I say excellent job in presenting a question to him that made him, in 20 months of campaigning, tell the world his true motives.  And it took a REGULAR American to make him do it.  Not a debate, not a speech, not another politician, but a regular guy, just like millions of us.  Much more of a regular guy than the Obama would ever be.

Yassar Arafat used to make nice when he spoke in English or French, but when the little Ringo Starr wannabe spoke in Arabic, he expressed his true feelings.

I have always found that liberals speak their true motives when they are in their comfort zone. When they think they are surrounded by like minded people, they let their true feelings be known. Barack probably thought he was speaking to someone who would by his true socialist feelings, so he spoke his own truth.

Any comparisons of Barack Hussein to Arafat are purely incidental. He might share a lot of things with Arafat, but we know that Barack Hussein is not Arab. They've worn similar clothing. They have/had Arabic names, and there's rumors that both have/had a taste for men. That's just a vicious rumor, though. 

If there actually is such a thing as a moderate democrat, are you people totally blind to the fact your party has been taken over by the extreme left?. I can't believe any sensible person can't see this. Are you that desperate to have a democrat in the White House that you are willing to put in someone as totally unqualified and with more skeletons in his closet than you can count.

What in heavens name do you people know about this guy that the mainstream media refuses to discuss. How can you see a perfect candidate with absolutely no problems whose only claim to fame is he has 143 days experience, voted to raise taxes 95 times and when a vote of importance or requiring leadership only voted present.

For the sake of the country if there are any of you left in that party stand up for your country don't give your vote to a complete unknown with an obvious agenda, IF your willing to scratch the surface and see him for what he is, an empty suit.

The storm that is brewing from all the attacks on Sarah and now Joe are about to strike the MSM with the force of a F-5 hurricane!  It is one thing to attack a politician, they're in the public arena, but when you go after their families and an innocent hard working civilian, you have crossed the line.  HOW DARE THEY!  I AM JOE!

First, a pre-emptive apology for the intentional non-humor to follow. I promise that all future non-humor will be strictly unintentional.

We've all witnessed a lot of insanity in American politics over the last few years. Up until the last few days, none of it has seriously bothered me; hey, just more grist for the satire mill. But after witnessing the media's blitzkreig on Joe 'the Plumber' Wurzelbacher, I can only muster anger, and no small amount of fear.

Politicians -- Sarah Palin, Bill Clinton, et al. --  obviously have to put up with some rude, nasty shit, but it's  right there in the jobs description. Joe the Plumber is different. He was a guy tossing a football with his kid in the front yard of his $125,000 house when a politician picked him out as a prop for a 30 second newsbite for the cable news cameras. Joe simply had the temerity to speak truth (or, if you prefer, an uninformed opinion) to power, for which the politico-media axis apparently determined that he must be humiliated, harassed, smashed, destroyed. The viciousness and glee with which they set about the task ought to concern anyone who still cares about citizen participation, and freedom of speech, and all that old crap they taught in Civics class before politics turned into Narrative Deathrace 3000, and Web 2.0 turned into Berlin 1932.0.

If it's meta-memes and meta-meta-narratives these media headlice want, so be it. I hope you will join me in expressing a simple bit of solidarity with this guy, Spartacus style. I AM JOE. I am a Wal Mart schlub in flyover country who changes my own oil and unclogs drains without a license. I smoke and drink beer and toss the football in the front yard with my kid, and I figure I can fend my way without handouts from some Magic Messiah's candy bags. Most everyone in my family and most everyone I grew up with is another Joe, and if you screw with them, you screw with me.

Are you a Joe? Say it proud. Leave it on every goddamn newspaper comment section and online forum. Let these pressroom and online thugs know you won't stay silent when they try to destroy the life of a private citizen for speaking his mind -- because for every one of them, there are a million Joe Wurzelbachers. And for that we should all be thankful.

I won't vote for him but I certainly won't hope against him if he is elected.

Alot of you sound like people that may very well do something very, very stupid in the future out of anger towards someone that you've allowed Sean Hannity to build up in your head.

Calm down, focus on the issues and vote for John McCain and Gov. Palin and we'll be fine, but if by chance they don't win we need to drop this anger from our side and realize we're the ones that got ourselves into this mess of being the minority in Congress, not Bill Maher.

If you think dissent means beng a traitor then I expect that you will not say one negative word toward Obama if he is elected and that as an American you will hope that he becomes successful and helps the nation to prosper.
