For a guy that has practically made a career out of regularly accusing the Bush administration of lying to get America into a war, comedian Bill Maher clearly isn't opposed to telling fibs if it serves his financial interests.

Such was exposed by CNN Monday when Maher and the director of his new film "Religulous" admitted -- without the slightest hint of remorse -- they had lied to get people -- including political and religious figures -- to appear in the movie.

In fact, one evangelical pastor said that he thought he was participating in a PBS documentary and never would have agreed to the project if he had been told Maher was involved (video embedded right, full transcript follows):

BROOKE ANDERSON, CNN ENTERTAINMENT CORRESPONDENT: Bill Maher's film "Religulous" rails on religion and belittles those who believe. Now some in the film claiming they were tricked into participating, a charge Maher doesn't deny.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BILL MAHER, COMEDIAN: You're a senator, it worries me that people are running my country who believe in a talking thing.

Sen. MARK PRYOR (D-Arkansas): You don't have to pass an I.Q. test to be in the Senate.

ANDERSON (voice-over): Senator Mark Pryor of Arkansas isn't laughing about his appearance in comedian Bill Maher's new film "Religulous."

PRYOR: The concern I have is it's really making fun of all people of faith making them look ridiculous.

ANDERSON: Though Pryor knew Maher was involved he says this e- mail request was misleading.

PRYOR: We really had no idea of what he was up to. We thought that was probably going to be a segment for his show. I don't think he explicitly said that. But he never told that us that he was working on a documentary.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I'm going in the (INAUDIBLE) and I'm going to come back on a white horse.

ANDERSON: The movie directed by Larry Charles who also made "Borat" mocks all major religion. Steven Waldman is editor in chief of the non-denominational Web site, beliefnet.com.

STEVEN WALDMAN, Beliefnet.com: If he had any hopes that this was going to be a kind of persuasive indictment of religion, I think he kind of blew it by caring more about making it a comedy than about making it a real documentary.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Is this is your only 2000 tour?

ANDERSON: Evangelical pastor Jeremiah Cummings says he was told he was taking part in a PBS documentary and never would have participated had he known Maher was behind the project.

"They never told me that Bill Maher was going to slide in at the last second. I deeply feel sorry for Larry Charles and Bill Maher for this sick movie."

ANDERSON: Cummings says that his career and reputation have suffered.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (sounds like Maher off-camera): Bless me, father, for I have sinned.

ANDERSON: Maher and Charles admitted deceiving the film's subjects.

MAHER: We lied.

LARRY CHARLES, Director: Yes, I don't see an obligation to reveal everything about everything.

ANDERSON: Despite the attacks on faith, Waldman believes something positive can come from the film.

WALDMAN: It kind of makes believers on their toes.

MAHER: Why doesn't he just obliterate the devil and therefore get rid of evil in the world?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He will.

MAHER: He will?

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: For his part, Pastor Jeremiah Cummings is considering legal action despite signing a consent form.

In the end, Bill Maher lying really isn't news, is it?

After all, since leaving "Comedy Central" years ago and become a leftwing shill, he's been lying virtually every time he's in front of a camera.

Of course, it is nice to see him admit it, isn't it?

So what if he lied? There

So what if he lied? There are no sins, right?

Did you really expect honesty from that man?

He pulled a Borat on folks.  It's so typical.  The left's argument against religion is so weak that they feel the need to dupe people into participating in a propoganda flick.  I use to think that Maher was funny when I was a dumb kid.  Thank God that I've grown up.

“Anybody gone into Whole Foods lately and see what they charge for arugula?  I mean, they’re charging a lot of money for this stuff.”

B.H. Obama

Mayer is an idiot

What amazes me is that the brain dead lefties that follow him are so enamored with his "intellect".

The guy is an idiot, seriously. Ever try and watch his show? it's very annoying, every dumb thing he spews out, the audience comes unglued and makes"zoo like sounds" I liked it when Christopher Hitchens was on and  flipped the audience off!

Of course Maher is an

Of course Maher is an idiot. But he's really harmless because, when you get right down to it, anyone who takes him seriously is already a total lefty loser. So, at least he's not going to convert anyone.

Jesus Christ was crucified by "community organizers."

Mahar does ads for PETA

Let's see him confront the loony PETA folks.

Better yet, let's drop him off in Iran and let him questions some people about Mohammed.

Maher

Everytime I see Maher, I just feel sad for him. Like wow ... this man is going to be burning in hell one day. He mocks every religion and any person of faith. It's just sad. What good is in his life?

My question - who is going to see this movie? And who watches him on TV? Maher is just sick.

Maher

For the life of me I cannot understand why or how this smarmy little twirp manages to hold this job.  He has no talent - ie not funny or even interesting.  He spouts the vilest bilge and considers insults and derogatory comments as commentary.  I do not like this creep and I have emailed HBO to cancel his show.   I have  not received a reply nor do I expect one.

I'm still trying to figure out

how being shocking is equated with brilliance.

What's the big deal?

After all, it's not like the left doesn't lie all the time, right? And Maher is well-known as a liar, a cheat, and a talentless flake. In the real world, he might be qualified to make a Big Mac, if he was trained properly. But you'd have to watch that he didn't spit in it.

Honestly, Maher makes Michael Moore look like a pro.

"Religulous" will most likely be a total flop at the box office. Look for it on video soon. I figure by next week or so.

Jesus Christ was crucified by "community organizers."

Statistics show that

Box Office Statistics show that "the wages of sin is death"(financial at least)

The movie only got $3 million on opening weekend after opening in over 500 theaters.

It ranks lower than 3,800 of all time, in spite of the hype and advertising and generally gets low reviews from the folks who spend money on movies. Once the word of mouth about how really bad it is, the box office has dropped  dramatically.

Maher the Moron!

Yep, he's a moron! At least An American Carol beat out Maher's idiotic movie 2 weeks ago.  I guess there aren't as many left loonies like himself as he thought.  Did I mention Maher's a Moron?

Very similar to the Al

Very similar to the Al Franken "lying liars" incident where he adimtted lying to John Ashcroft claiming he was writing a book about public schools in order to trick Ashcroft into talking about abstinence. Makes you wonder if Maher and Franken are taking hits off the same bong.

Obvliously!  Lying is not

Obvliously!  Lying is not wrong when you have no morals.  This is why apostates like Maher believe what they do - it allows them to do whatever they want...  Poor fools have a rude awakening coming.

maher is an A$$hole

It's amazing no one has busted him up.

The Government is the Enemy

Bill Maher is a deeply flawed human being...

He is an extremely bitter man, with an almost toxic level of anger in his soul, if he still has one.

If he weren't such an idiotic buffoon, I'd almost feel sorry for him.

Almost.

Bill Maher--wasn't he one of those two ski-racing brothers from the '80s?

Assaulting straw men

Left wing pseudo-intellectuals love to debate and mock the un-sophisticated and intellectually weak.  They avoid like the plague rhetorically skilled scholorly and sophisticated  who disagree with them.

Do you have any doubt what the outcome of a lengthy discussion debate with an articualte Christian Theologin would be?

It is kind of like a bully going into a bar and picking fights pretending to a be skilled boxer.  He  wouldn't last 30 secs in the ring with any real boxer, which is why he avoids the gym like the palgue.

Two Americas?

No, not two Americas.  There's one America.  The others are trying to destroy it.  Bill Maher is one of the most ''seen'' destroyers, along with 0bama, Durbin, the cacklers on The View, Pelosi, Reid, and on and on and on . . . .

There's 'political humor' and then there's 'destructional humor'.  That humor is based on ignorance and hate - not unlike the Nazi's agenda was back in the 30s and 40s.  Maher, Jon Stewart, Letterman, and others, make this their bread and butter.  But when they do that they piss off over half the population so they will never be as popular or successful as a Johnny Carson or Bob Hope - true comedic geniuses.  They are doomed to low rated TV shows and other hateful outlets - like this pseudo film of Maher's.

Typical on how a large segment of America gets it's news and information from shows like Maher's and Stewart's, a lady where my wife works had no idea that 0bama is half white.  She was sure he was 'all black'.  This is the ignorance we, and others, have to deal with on a daily basis.
