The John Edwards admission yesterday that he did have an affair with his mistress opened up not only the floodgates of coverage which was previously in short supply on this issue in the mainstream media but also of a new candor by that same group. One such example of the latter was the startling praise given to the National Enquirer by Elizabeth Snead of the Los Angeles Times Dish Rag blog:
The National Enquirer tabloid is looking pretty darn legit right about now.
The story of the John Edwards and Rielle Hunter affair has pretty much been theirs and theirs alone since the tab first reported it last October. Recently, they reported that the former senator had been in the Beverly HIlton Hotel with Hunter and that he hid in the men's room of the hotel from their reporters.
Snead sounded a bit snide with this comment that seemed like a slam on the recent prohibition by Tony "Muzzles" Pierce from even mentioning this issue in the Los Angeles Times:
Sound off, folks! We can finally talk about John Edwards and his now admitted rumored extra-marital affair behind his dying wife's back.
Well, the folks sounded off it is sounds like they are none too happy with the previous avoidance of a big story that happened right in the backyard of the Los Angeles Times:
Los Angeles Times: Where were you when the Enquirer was kicking butt, trying to get this story ? Didn't you send out a missive to bloggers at your paper saying they couldn't write about it ? Shame on your paper for not reporting on this.
The LA Times and other MSM are just as 'false' and 'ridiculous' as Edwards, as shown by how you've refused to acknowledge or investigate the issue. Instead you waited until Edwards' admitted it. Somehow, I doubt you would have mentioned it if Edwards' himself hadn't admitted it today. You should point the accusatory finger at yourself, and you should have pointed it at Edwards at the end of last year.
I never believed the whole "liberal bias" thing about the media until this whole debacle. What happened to "trust but verify?" No one tried to verify anything, yet had the National Enquirer uncovered Mitt Romney in a hotel with his love child, I bet papers would have tripped over themselves rushing to investigate. This is why no one watches network news anymore. The only trusted source is to read blogs on the left and right, then make your own mind somwhere in the middle.
And right about now that wetness that Tony Pierce feels running down his face is probably a bad case of uncooked huevos revueltos.

Thick skull's will do that...

What about the Dan Rather National Guard story? Newsweek's Lewinski coverup? (R) and (D) scandal story bias? How much convincing do you need?
Tommy Lee Jones's character in "Men in Black" had it right. If you want the real news, buy the tabloids.
Not so

This statement is not sincere since the writer quickly reaches this conclusion:
This is why no one watches network news anymore.
We can add Juanita
August 9, 2008 - 13:27 ET by bigtimerWe can add Juanita Broaddrick...
Wasn't it Brokaw or Brian Williams who said he would quit if the story was released and broadcast on the network by investigative reporter Lisa Myers I think it was....they held it back for months, then proceeded to trash Juanita too after it was finally shown.
Nope, no bias/cover-up in the msm, they aren't an arm for the dem party...not at all.

If my memory serves me
August 9, 2008 - 16:39 ET by fitzfongIf my memory serves me right, the Beverly Hilton Hotel is attached to Trader Vic's on the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevard. If so, I can't imagine a more appropriate place for John Edwards to get caught, maybe he had a drink at the bar before his visit. Then, to paraphrase Warren Zevon...
"I saw a 'Silky Pony' drinking a Pina Colada at Trader Vic's...his hair was perfect."

Wow, I guess the next step
August 9, 2008 - 18:04 ET by hydrodynDMWow, I guess the next step will be folks in the MSM using this Edwards thing as an example of the "culture of corruption" in the Democratic Party.
Yeaaaa... right.
Paternity test? I don't think so!
August 9, 2008 - 18:42 ET by trak65Very predictably, Rielle Hunter stated today that she would not agree to a paternity test for her child. I bet this stance was pre-arranged with Edwards. If there ever is a test, they had better test for maternity as well to avoid the old baby switch trick!
trak... I am following
August 9, 2008 - 18:48 ET by bigtimertrak...
I am following you on the why she may not be allowing this...but to let her family stick their necks out for her earlier saying that they want Edwards to take a paternity test to stop maligning her ect ect....
Makes me wonder some...
If she is getting a huge pay-off forever...she had better clue her family in...you would think anyway.

Very well could be....
I seriously believe they are in love with each other...
I know one thing, that woman isn't stupid, if things fall apart for her ect ect...don't go as planned, eventually if the scenario you are thinking is correct, she will make millions from a tell-all book, movie rights ect.

The AP has Edwards' back.
August 9, 2008 - 19:41 ET by trak65I agree, BT. Edwards has his fingers crossed on the whole Rielle-stays-on-message angle. It's amusing how the AP is now sniffing that the Enquirer's "blaring headline referred to an Edwards 'love child'" as if there's no doubt that now Edwards is telling the whole truth. You can't teach the old media new tricks -- like unbiased reporting!
trak... You can't teach

Have you ever got that right...why they wouldn't want their ratings to go up, or make a profit....let alone gain a smidgen of respect.

The New York Times Sarah
August 10, 2008 - 01:51 ET by Rush FanThe New York Times Sarah Wheaton writes in The Early Word: Examining the Edwards Delay why news organizations such as The New York Times did not devote resources to the John Edwards story earlier: “Bill Keller, the executive editor, said in an e-mail message that Mr. Edwards’s dark-horse status and the “added hold-your-nose quality about The Enquirer” contributed to the lack of interest by The Times and the mainstream media generally.”
I didn’t watch John Edwards’ interview with ABC’s Bob Woodruff', but Politico and HotAir are reporting that John Edwards said: "What I was thinking was this was something that was personal to my own family," Edwards said, citing other public figures having survived extramarital affairs. He recalled, he said, having heard "John McCain talk about the mistakes that he’s made in his past with respect to his first marriage."
HotAir has the Edwards recap video of the interview and adds: “Not only did ABC decide inexplicably not to publish a complete version, but the selections they chose don’t include the McCain bit or various other interesting details (like the fact that Edwards says the affair was “short”) — although Bob Woodruff’s insistence that Elizabeth Edwards is “probably the most admired and beloved person in this country” is thankfully included.”
The liberal media and the left are following John Edwards' example by attempting to minimize Edwards’ affair. They are ensuring that John McCain’s affair many years ago is mentioned or highlighted. The following are just a few recent examples:
On the Yahoo website earlier today a news item (gone now) read something to the effect: Will Edward’s affair hurt Barack Obama or John McCain more? The link to that news item led me to this article on Slate titled Speaking of Infidelity
As mentioned previously, Ben Smith’s blog on Politico was headlined: On adultery, Edwards cites McCain
The Huffington Post has a number of new articles that mention that John McCain cheated on his wife:

New York Post: HE WAS ALWAYS A FAKE
Perhaps this is one reason why John McCain when asked about the John Edward’s affair had two words: “No Comment”.

John McCain and Barack Obama - I thought it was against the law for two Democrats to run in the general election.
I just read an AP story
August 10, 2008 - 00:56 ET by deerjerkydaveI just read an AP story that attempted to excuse why the liberal media didn't talk about the Edwards affair for weeks after the story was confirmed by Foxnews. They claimed that they needed proof of the affair to even talk about it. I seriously gagged and couldn't finish reading the article. How many unsubstantiated rumors have been spread by the liberal media about President Bush, or even John McCain? I can think of a handful just off the top of my head. For example, just recently the liberal media was abuzz over an alleged affiar between McCain and a lobbyist. Where was their journalistic integrity then? Oh, that's right, McCain is a Republican and Edwards is a Democrat.
Yes Brian Williams, bias is in the eye of the beholder.
"Weekly Wolrd News" Please come back
August 10, 2008 - 01:57 ET by Carl KolchakIf the smart competent people who used to work for "Weekly World News" ever need an excuse to come back, it would be after the stuck up journalists in the MSM mistreated the "National Enquirer" who trumped the stuck up left wing journalists who didn't want to report on Edwards because he supported Obama. In my opinion the stuck up journalists in the MSM wish they could report as good as the reporters from "Weekly World News" could, but they can't because they are too stuck up and biased.
