Bill Maher Pressures MSNBC's Ed Schultz to Donate to Obama

On Friday, Bill Maher, the largest donor to Barack Obama's Super PAC, pressured MSNBC's Ed Schultz to contribute to the President's campaign.

This happened on HBO's Real Time less than 30 minutes after Maher said, "For the sake of black America, [Obama] needs the second term" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BILL MAHER, HOST: The president gave a speech and he was talking about Ronald Reagan. And he said, “It was crazy that tax loopholes make it possible for multimillionaires to pay nothing while a bus driver was paying ten percent of his salary.” That wild-eyed socialist tax hiking class warrior was Ronald Reagan. And it reminded me of when I remind Christians that they're not acting like Jesus. It just drives them crazy. And I feel like unlike the Democratic candidates we've had in recent years, Al Gore, for example, John Kerry, this president knows how to push their buttons.

ED SCHULTZ, MSNBC: He does. He really does. And he's, his timing's terrific, but he's going this way, Bill, because he has to, because of Citizens United. He's not going to be able to raise the kind of money they're going to throw at him so the president brilliantly is using the bully pulpit.

MAHER: I've done my part, Ed.

[Applause]

SCHULTZ: [Laughs] No, he is.

SUSAN DEL PERCIO, REPUBLICAN STRATEGIST: $1 million.

MAHER: You got more money than me, Ed. Just saying.

SCHULTZ: He is brilliantly putting them on the defensive, and he has to.

MAHER: You’re doing the side-step back.

SCHULTZ: Huh? You don't think so. You don’t think he is?

MAHER: No, I do. I think you should give some money. Anyway.

[Laughter]

SCHULTZ: They won't allow me. I can't give money.

MAHER: What do you mean you can’t give money?

SCHULTZ: I can't give. Where I work, I'm not allowed to give money. I can't give political money to anybody.

MAHER: To even to the Super PAC?

SCHULTZ: Not even to the Super PAC. I can't give money. That's the standards and practices of where I work.

DEL PERCIO: But he would have upped your million.

SCHULTZ: If I could I would. Damn right I would.

MAHER: So easy to say that. No, I believe it. That's right. I remember Keith Olbermann got in big trouble because he just gave a couple of grand.

SCHULTZ: He did. I'm trying to keep my job.

DEL PERCIO: Because you can't find another one under Obama.

Isn't this marvelous?

So not only is it okay at HBO for one of its stars to contribute to a candidate, he can campaign for him on the air AND pressure guests to do so as well.

And these folks complain about the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling.

Ed Washerman Schultz, paragon of ethics

Submitted by CO2Maker on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 10:13am.

Ed: "Well, of course I'd give a million. Hell, I'll make it 10 million. But my cabal network execs won't allow me. Sorry. Whew!"

Bill: "You chickensh*t c**t."

Ed: "You can't say that!"

Bill: "Yes, I can. This is HBO. And you're not a Democratic woman."

Bible Scholar Bill Maher

Well, Bill, apparently along with Michael Moore you are a Bible Scholar, so please enlighten us as to when Jesus told His followers they should pay more in taxes if they wanted to be like Him.

Doth your master pay tribute?

Submitted by Slyrr on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 1:48pm.

Trolls like Mahar try to wrest religious figures that they don't even believe in to try and trick people into doing their own bidding. 'They preach for doctrine the commandments of men, having a form of Godliness, but they deny the power thereof.'

In one of the ONLY instances in which someone asked Jesus about taxes, there was a Roman who asked Peter the Apostle, 'Doth not your master pay tribute?' (i.e., taxes) Peter recklessly answered 'yes' without even consulting with the Savior. Later when approaching Jesus, Jesus asked him, 'Of whom do the kings of the world levy tribute? Of their own children or of strangers?'

Peter answered, 'Of strangers.' Then Jesus said, 'Then are the children free.' The Savior then provided Peter with money through miraculous means (Peter caught a fish with a coin in its belly) and ordered him to give the coin to the Roman, 'lest we offend him.'

But Mahar doesn't really believe in Christ, so pointing this out to him would do no good.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Bill Mohair's big shtick

It's eyebrow-raising time

Submitted by CO2Maker on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 10:51am.

The most unsettling part of this little set-to is what Mohair said: "You've got more money than me, Ed."

Oh, really? Mohair is a vulgar opportunist, but I am sure he's smart and a good businessman who can drive a hard bargain—and he just upped his bank account with a renewal with HBO.

So that means Ed Washerman Schultz is making a lot of money, too. From whom? Is his radio show that good? I can't stand to watch his MSNBC show, and even if it pulls in one of MSNBC's biggest audiences, it's still a distant second to Fox and it's on a cabal network.

Ed has made it very clear in

Submitted by LAM SON 719 on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 10:53am.

Ed has made it very clear in the past that he is only generous with other people'e money. He has stated it's "his" money and he shouldn't forced to part with it. Ed's fly by night construction company only survives because of stimulus funds and his Canadian gay dude ranch is failure. Ed is hoarding money because he knows soon he will be unsmployed.

It's been my experience here

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 11:58am.

It's been my experience here that LAM SON does not reply.

I did my own research and found THIS on Ed's construction company

and some info on his fishing lodge in Canada

(and Ed calls it a "socialist" story. LMAO!

Just like the old Soviet Union!

BUT if you Google "Ed Schultz + gay dude ranch"  guess what pops up?  3 instances of LAM SON referencing same in NB comments at the top.

So take it with a BIG PINCH of salt.

Very seldom is there anything

Submitted by LAM SON 719 on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 6:13pm.

Very seldom is there anything worth replying to, especially when the question comes from those who aren't really conservative first place. The few times I have been asked a question it is usually because the reader has no understanding of sarcasm. Any valid question I will response to but I do not as a habit re-read articles in order gauge my popularity with other NB posters.

Mahar sure seems to be

Submitted by Slyrr on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 1:30pm.

Mahar sure seems to be feeling his Cheerios since being 'renewed' for another year or two. But he's sure not looking like a spring chicken anymore.

Eventually, his soul will be required of him, and then whose will these things be that he has built?

Humm...

Submitted by CobraMan on Sat, 05/05/2012 - 1:44pm.

Hay, Marher, how's that guilt trip going? You know, that one you must be experiencing after donating 1 MILLION dollars to a tax exempt organization, Obama's Super Pac? Isn't that a rich man, yourself, cheating the public coffers out of the taxes that 1 MILLION dollars should generate, and you're doing it just to benefit another rich man, Obama, who's worth MILLIONS? Ask yourself this, Maher: What would Jesus say about that? I think he'd say: Bill, you're such a hypocrite!

Let 'em contribute all the money they want

Submitted by Galvanic on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 1:26am.

NOEL: So not only is it okay at HBO for one of its stars to contribute to a candidate, he can campaign for him on the air AND pressure guests to do so as well.

I want to see them put their fortunes where their mouths are.  It's fun to see clowns like Special Ed hide behind MSNBC house rules when we know he doesn't want to kick in a $ million.

By letting them contribute whatever they want, they can't complain about the other side's $ contributions.

Let Buffett contribute $40 billion to Obama's Super PAC.

Of course, they won't, because for all their ranting about greedy rich and fair shares, they themselves are the greedy ones.
