CNN Correspondent Says 'F--king N--ger' On The Air

By Noel Sheppard | April 09, 2012 | 00:37

Noel Sheppard's picture

For the second time in roughly two weeks a CNN employee has said "f--king n--ger" on the air.

The most recent vulgarity came from CNN national correspondent Susan Candiotti Sunday during a report on the shooting spree in Tulsa, Oklahoma (video follows with transcript and commentary, serious vulgarity warning):

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, ANCHOR: All right, disturbing new developments surfacing in just the last few hours concerning the shooting spree in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Two men are now under arrest for the shootings of five African-American men.

Three of those victims died. Both suspects are white and today Tulsa authorities are sorting through the suspect's Facebook pages, where they are finding racist comments and a personal anniversary. Let's bring in Susan Candiotti. She's following the story in Tulsa. So, what you have you learned about the suspects and what was going on in their lives?

SUSAN CANDIOTTI, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Fredricka, some very interesting, and as you indicated, disturbing information about his background.

Family and friends of one of the two suspects in this case, 19-year- old Jacob England, tells us that he has been undergoing psychiatric counseling and taking medications ever since his father was murdered, was killed, almost two years ago to the day of these shootings that happened here in Tulsa.

We understand, CNN has learned from police and according to documents as well, and from relatives, that a couple of years ago, England's father was responding to his daughter, who was asking for help when her house was being broken into.

He went after the suspect in this case, he, the father. The two had a fight. Mr. England's father was not armed, but the other man was. Turned around and shot him. That man, evidently, according to court documents that we have found, indicate that he was not prosecuted for that crime.

Now, this, according to relatives, has troubled him ever since and CNN has also discovered what police have. There was a Facebook posting made just the other day, written by the suspect in this case, that police are examining.

And it reads like this, "Today is two years that my dad has been gone, shot by" -- and please excuse the language, it's very sensitive, "shot by a fucking nigger." It's hard not to go off between that and Charon."

Charon is a, we have to pause and say is England's girlfriend who according to family members committed suicide in front of the suspect in this case just last December in front of him and in front of their baby.

The Facebook posting goes on to say, I'm gone in the head. Dad and Charon, his girlfriend, I love and miss you, I think about you both every second of the day. Now we have learned that this is something that police are taking a very close look at, to see whether this might be a motive in this case -- Fred.

WHITFIELD: OK and then, what happened, Susan, when trying to reach out to those who know these gentlemen? Did any neighbors have anything to say about them?

CANDIOTTI: Well, there -- yes, everyone is trying to make some sense of this. A woman who lives across the street who has known the family since they were children said that she can't get over what happened.

She said that she heard some gunshots fired there at the night of the shootings over at the house where he was living, and heard some disturbances the other night, but says she finds it hard to fathom this arrest. Listen.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SYNITA BOWERS, SUSPECT'S NEIGHBOR: He's just a nice young man. I can't even imagine him in this, now drugs, yes, but a killing? I can't imagine it. Not Jake.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CANDIOTTI: Now, again, police are trying to figure out more about the suspect in this case. Certainly, the community is very relieved that two people have been arrested and we expect a news conference in just a couple of hours -- Fred.

WHITFIELD: All right, Susan Candiotti in Tulsa. We apologize to our viewers for such profanity being used on our air. And we'll be right back with much more in the NEWSROOM.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

This on air vulgarity - which occurred at 2:39 in the afternoon on Easter Sunday! - was exactly the same thing CNN's Drew Griffin uttered on March 22. He also was quoting what a white man implicated in a hate crime against a black man allegedly said.

Can the F-word and the N-word now be used on CNN if they dramatize racism?

Should Americans expect more of such language on newscasts in the coming months as the Obama-loving media try to gin up a race war to assist the President's reelection?

As NewsBusters reported Sunday, HDNet's Dan Rather predicted this weekend that race will be a factor in the upcoming presidential campaign.

With the Trayvon Martin incident looking to come to a head as a Florida grand jury decides whether or not to prosecute George Zimmerman, along with this new incident in Tulsa, the press are going to have many opportunities to make it seem America is back in the Jim Crow era.

Let's hope they don't include any more gratuitous F-bombs and N-words.

Wow!!! I've never said that, and I'm a damn white racist conservative Republican-voting ( do I have any choice???) bigoted country boy redneck over here in Asia!!!

And even if I WERE to say it - I wouldn't say it about Boy Baraka, because he DOESN'T QUALIFY!!! But I might just call him a 'f**king moooooooooooooooooooslem-sympathizing commie'!!! Is that racist????

You keep late hours, Dave............hell, I haven't even showered yet - over here in Asia - and I've only had ONE black cherry/vodka!!! Did you have a good time watching the Masters??? I didn't surf today - it was windy and choppy - but there was a surf contest on from Australia that I could keep tabs on while I did my chores, laundry, paperwork, and kitchen activities. I know a couple of the contestants, so that makes it a little more interesting.

And I could have added a boat-load of adjectives to my description of Boy Baraka, but I tried to keep it short and to the point!!!

killa,

Submitted by Dave. on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 1:36am.

Just trying to wind down from it all, really.

Finishing off a decent stogie and downing a little more single malt.

LOL - Everything in moderation, of course.

Yeah, right. ;-)

Bubba's shot out of the pinestraw in the playoff was truly phenomenal, but Louis' double eagle on the 2nd hole was pretty good, too.

I give higher credence to Bubba, as his shot was based on his unique (and decidedly self-taught) skills, and Louis' was based somewhat more on luck, but those will be the two shots that I will long remember from the 2012 Masters.

And Freddy being tied for the lead for a time was pretty cool, too, especially for us middle-aged golf freaks.

What really sucks is I have to wait another year for the 2013 Masters.

LOL - That is even worse than football withdrawal. :-(

Actually, coco, I'm about 250 miles to the northwest of Maui, on the north shore of another Asian island. And, you know, once in a while I see 'black' tourists, and there are a sprinkling of 'black' people living here on the island - but for some reason, even though I'm a white racist bigoted Conservative - I've never had the urge to kill them!!!

You all remember, back when the comrade Dear Ruler was elected..

Submitted by Dave. on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 1:16am.

...I predicted, numerous times, that he would set race relations in America back several decades.

Based on what has transpired since his elevation to POTUS, it appears I was right - along with a whole host of other things I predicted concerning this mysterious man that the majority of the stoopid sheeple voters were blindly oblivious to in 2008, and many of which still appear to be ignorant of even 3+ years into the screw.

But after all, you can't really fix stoopid, can you?

Submitted by grammajane on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 2:08am.

if it had been a black person writing in his facebook what this white kid did if cnn would have repeated the comment or, like most normal networks, would have bleeped it? Just another way of the media trying to cause race problems against the white population. This was, the most repulsive example of the media and why they are all headed for the garbage can. Shameful and discusting is the title for this so-called reporter and cnn.

CNN reading all of Trayvon's twitter posts? Surely, you caught it on NBC, or ABC, or SEEBS, right? Thought not, seems that the networks are only interested when it feeds the narrative they want to sell.

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

Submitted by ZmanCav on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 8:09am.

Not making a statement on the case itself, obviously the cops are investigating and doing what they need to do, but this article pointing a finger at CNN is just retarded. I can't stand CNN just as much as the next intelligent human being that can tell the difference between objective journalism and propagandic crap, but this reporter was QUOTEING someone elses statement that was obviously racially motivated. It's not the job of the media to enflame or water down actual news, it is to report things as they are and this CNN report seemed to do just that. It's not like they deliberately altered an audio recording to CREATE racism where none existed.............leave that to NBC.

So....profanity on the air is fine, as long as one is quoting someone else?

No one is accusing CNN of originating the language; it's about standards and using that kind of language on-air.

Before you declare something "retarded" make sure you understand what is going on.

When you don't, that just makes YOU look "retarded."

Feel free to disagree with me but

Submitted by bkeyser on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 9:35am.

I personally think "racism" and "bigotry" have two distinct meanings.

Racism is an active use of bigotry, while bigotry is a mindset that may or may not be expressed; may or may not be evident. In other words, a white shop owner can be a bigot and still run a successful shop in a black neighborhood. A black man can be a bigot but outwardly show no indication of his hatred. It's only racism when someone is adversely affected by this bigotry. In the case of Zimmerman, I don't believe him to be a "bigot", so his actions were not "racist".

I read something about this story yesterday and from what I've read Mr. England is actually Cherokee Indian, not white. Or at least part Cherokee. His mugshot seems to indicate that though I certainly can't confirm it. The other guy is clearly white but I don't know what he's being charged with. But the only reason CNN is doing this is to prove that while they were wrong on the Zimmerman/Martin issue involving "racism", they're right that it actually does exist; and apparently only in one direction given their lack of reporting on the Baltimore beating that I linked over the weekend.

This is contrived. It's an effort to keep the "white people don't like black people" message alive. And yet while they'll tell you this guy's motive was likely revenge and instability, they won't make the connection that his revenge was against someone he perceived as either being involved with -or representing the man serving only six years for killing his father, and he probably would have done the same thing to whites if a white man was the shooter. I don't know if this guys crime was racially motivated but CNN and others are going to make sure those willing to rush to judgment, do.

Submitted by Saltherring on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 10:16am.

All this fuss over street violence that occurs virtually every day when a genuine racist...a man who hates white people...occupies our White House. Barack Obama has spent 3+ years trying to divide Americans along racial, economic, ideological and/or any other barrier he can use. Why would white people...or people of any color for that matter...vote for such an evil, hateful individual? The only reason I can think of is they were (in Nov '08) and continue to be willing to trade their Constitution and future of this nation for the meager crumbs the traitorous Obama regime tosses them in exchange. For shame.....
