McCain Blasts HBO's 'Game Change': 'Based on a Book That's Completely Biased'
Although Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) kept true to his word that he wasn't going to watch HBO's Sarah Palin-bashing film "Game Change" which premiered Saturday evening, he did have some harsh words about it on Fox News Sunday.
"It's based on a book that's completely biased and with unattributed quotes," McCain said before taking issue with the depiction of him as a vulgar man that asked his campaign manager to find him a female running mate (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS WALLACE, HOST: Well, that brings us -- speaking of elections to the new HBO movie "Game Change" about your selection of Sarah Palin as your running mate. Now, you have swore that you are not going to watch "Game Change". And I want to know because it premiered last night on HBO.
Did you break down and tune in?
SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN (R-ARIZONA): I watched the Phoenix Coyotes defeat the San Jose Sharks, 3-0. It was a great game.
Of course, I'm not going to watch it. It's based on a book that's completely biased and with unattributed quotes, et cetera. And what I don't understand even in the tough world of politics, why there continues to be such assaults on a good and decent person, Sarah Palin, a fine family person, a person whose nomination energized our campaign. We were in the lead and they continue to disparage and attack her character and her person.
I admire and respect her and proud of our campaign. I'm grateful that she ran with me and I will always be proud of what we did and humbled by the fact that I was able to get the nomination of the Republican Party for president of the United States.
"It's based on a book that's completely biased."
As NewsBusters reported Wednesday, the stars and people involved in the production of this film have in recent years given a total of $200,000 to Democrats and liberal causes. By contrast, they've given nothing to Republicans.
Zero, nada, zilch!
But I digress:
WALLACE: I do want to ask you, not about Palin but about yourself, because it does portray in the movie. What one of the things it says is that for all of your talk about putting country first, that your decision to pick Sarah Palin was pure politics. And here is a clip from the show.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WOODY HARRELSON (as Steve Schmidt): We desperately need a game changing pick. None much these middle aged white guys are game changers.
ED HARRIS (as John McCain): So find me a woman.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WALLACE: "So find me a woman." Simple question, Senator, did that ever happen?
MCCAIN: Of course not. And, by the way, I have been told I am portrayed as using an exceeding amount of coarse language. I don't use coarse language very often. I have a larger vocabulary than that.
But, of course not. I thought that she was best qualified person. I thought she had the ability to excite our party and the kind of person that I wanted to see succeed in the political arena. She is very effective and successful governor of a state.
And, again, Chris, I look forward and not back. This kind of stuff is something that I don't spend a lot of time on, because right now, I am trying to work on issues such as those we previously discussed.
WALLACE: I just want to ask one last question on this regard.
MCCAIN: Sure.
WALLACE: Because it does speak to the question credibility. And then we'll leave it.
You say that the authors and Hollywood made stuff up. But I want to point out some quotes from Steve Schmidt who was your chief strategist during the 2008 campaign. He's played by Woody Harrelson in the movie.
And here's what he says. He says, "It's the true story of what happened over those 10 weeks." This is Schmidt talking now. And then he says this, "I regret playing a part in the process that yielded someone on the ticket that was not prepared to be president."
So, I'm not asking you to respond to Hollywood or to the authors. But what do you say to the guy who was one of your top advisers in the 2008 campaign, Steve Schmidt, who says this is all true?
MCCAIN: I regret that he would make such a statement.
WALLACE: We'll leave it there.
Senator McCain, thank you. Thank you as always for coming on, sir. It's always a pleasure to talk with you.
WALLACE: I was going to say that, in the movie which I watched part of, you swear like a sailor, but I guess that would be unfair to sailors, so I'll -- I'll leave it there.
(LAUGHTER)
MCCAIN: Thanks again, Chris.
WALLACE: Thank you, sir.

If this were a movie about Obama written by a conservative it would be completely hammered by the MSM. I never planned on watching it from day one, just as I won't watch the Obama propaganda film. The fact that the media loves this film is a good reason to avoid it.

Schmidt says, "I regret playing a part in the process that yielded someone on the ticket that was not prepared to be president."
Is he referring to Palin--or McCain?
Because let's face it, McCain wasn't any better qualified to be a President than Palin. He may have been a good man back in 'Nam, but he'd gone downhill fast in the last decade or so. Which is why he needed an actual conservative on the ticket in order to get as close as he did.
And it's interesting that the manager of the losing campaign is somehow deemed competent to pass judgment on the campaign. When it comes down to it, this is Schmidt trying desperately to say, "It wasn't my fault! I got stuck with bad candidates!"
And no, I am not going to watch this tripe.

Maybe Steve meant his actions led to the election of the most unqualified of the candidates to the presidency - no, wait, that would have been Biden.
LIBERALISM - government of the people by the theories and for the ideologists
CLIMATEGATE (now I & II plus FAKEGATE) - the revelation that the pseudo-scientists at East Anglia University know just as much about the atmosphere as Harvard law professors know about the Constitution
The media, of course, didn't think Ears was unqualified!

In their nauseatingly blind worship of Ears (which, alarmingly, continues to this day!), the make believe media never considered him to be unprepared for the titanic responsibilities of the Presidency. Of course, we conservatives knew the bitter truth: he was a community organizer and a lousy Senator, and was eminently unqualified to be President (except in ego). Unfortunately, millions of misguided, star-struck voters swallowed the baloney whole...

The real story here isnt McCain choosing Palin, it is McCain choosing this Steve Schmidt traitor fellow to work on his campaign. They need to make a movie about that; I would watch it. It could be called Anatomy of a Betrayal or something.

Seems to me like that meets the standard of proof required by the Left when talking about Conservatives.
Oh, and that swearing like a sailor thing. I swore a lot when I was a sailor. I still swear a lot when the situation warrants it. It's cathartic. It clearly conveys what I think of a situation, leaving no room for doubt about my mood.
It's not unfair to sailors to talk about McCain's swearing. It's an honor.

Dropped All movie/ sitcom stations from my Dish network. I refused to support HBO and assorted movie programming. I will not support the left wing actors, actress or the producers that put this kind of trash out for the viewing public or provide entertainment (SIC) such as HBO and other vile programming. My justification, no money from me for these demented people, now, some of it might get to them but, not directly through entertainment rights. If more Americans would take the same approach and hit the scum in the pocket book things might change until then it will be status quo and, they will keep heaping this crap on you until you puke. Beside the actors and actress` and producers and supporting production managers are not worth a damn and cannot compare to days of old. Your choice.

I did the same a long time ago too because they usually play the same movies over and over again with only a few new ones each month. It's way easier to just rent for a few bucks and get what you want.
RINO McCain deserves much of the credit for "Game Change."
Submitted by Rush Fan on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 5:12pm.
If RINO McCain had not foolishly selected Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace as his key 2008 campaign advisers, "Game Change" the movie, or the book, would not have the key unnamed sourcing (Schmidt and Wallace) and hence, the faux cachet. Moreover, Gov. Sarah Palin would have had real help, rather than backstabbing, during the campaign.
Recall that it was RINO McCain's RINO strategist Steve Schmidt, who claimed in an interview in 2010 that Gov. Sarah Palin had trouble with the truth.
As I posted HERE, RINO McCain adviser Nicole Wallace, who was assigned to assist Gov. Palin, states that she did NOT vote for the McCain/Palin ticket because she felt Sarah Palin was unfit to be vice president.
Thank you RINO John McCain!

Submitted by Mr. Mike on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 5:24pm.
Steve Schmidt told McCain to NOT go after Obama's past but to keep it on the current topics. EPIC FAIL! McCain hitting Obama on his youth in Indonesia, his affiliation with Wright and Ayers and exactly tell the American people what a community organizer really does for three months puts enough doubt into a few million people to win the election! But no, we get "Barack Obama is nothing to be scared of. He'd make a fine president." I knew McCain would never be president after that remark.
Nicole Wallace is always out for Nicole Wallace. Nicole was a closet democrat working deep within a republican presidential campaign. She used Sarah Palin - the clothes fiasco was Wallace's idea, the Couric interview was not prepped for because Wallace thought Palin should "Be herself" - to help undermine the whole campaign.
