Billy Crystal Calls GOP Candidates 'Dark Knight, an American Psycho and a Charismatic Crack Addict'
NewsBusters reported Friday that Oscars host Billy Crystal intended to mock GOP "idiots" during Sunday's awards presentation.
Roughly forty-five minutes in, Crystal was true to his word taking a cheap shot at the Republican presidential candidates (video follows with transcript):
BILLY CRYSTAL: A dark knight, an American psycho, a charismatic crack addict. You'll get to choose one on Super Tuesday.
And of course the audience found it hysterical.

The show and especially the host. The Oscars were at one time mildly entertaining, when one truly had no idea who would win, and it was capable of memorable moments such as when Hattie McDaniel won her Best Supporting Actress oscar in 1939. But the Oscars today are overblown, predictive and merely symbolic of the narcissistic superficiality of American pop culture. I'm surprised Barack and Michelle weren't invited to box seats.
McDaniel's award was no true breakthrough

George Clooney has cited it as some kind of Jackie Robinson moment for Hollywood. He says he is proud of an industry that helped blaze the civil rights trail by awarding the performances of African Americans.
But what was the Academy really saying?
Remember: Hattie was cast as a slave, including stereotypical dialogue -- written by white screenwriters and not far removed from the lines they wrote for Mantan Moreland and Buckwheat. Essentially, they thought she convincingly played a slave in the image that they concocted from the novel.
Meanwhile, they continued to cast talented black performers like Paul Robison in films like the Emperor Jones. The first black entertainers to get into Hollywood films in other than stereotypical roles were musicians and singers like Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and Lena Horne.
If not a breakthrough, it was at least a beginning.

She still had to sit at a segregated table, apart from the rest of the attendees and even her fellow actors from the movie, and there was no rush afterward to recruit black actors. A year after the award ceremonies, the country was plunged into war and the armed forces were still segregated. However, the fact remains that McDaniel's award was based on the quality of her work, even if her character (and all the black characters in the movie) was stereotypical. There was no way to deny the excellence of her performance and her ensuing popularity. There was no affirmative action forcing the Academy to award her anything and no liberal press bemoaning the lack of a black presence. She won it on her own, fair and square, and that engendered something far more lasting than any top-down pseudo-socialist program could ever create.
McDaniel won her Oscar as fairly and squarely as . . .

. . . as most any Oscar winner. That is to say that there always exists some conscious or subconscious bias in comparing the performances of 5 actors in different roles under different directors and scripts.
The point is that while Hollywood pats itself on the back for awarding her an Oscar, it was for a stereotyped role performed to their satisfaction. I don't think black Americans got 'colorless' leading roles roles in major motion pictures until well after WW2.

The level of hypocrisy in Hollyweird never ceases to amaze.
As I have mentioned before, psychiatrists generally view movie stars as having a common cluster of symptoms, but primarily the attention seeking, borderline and narcissistic personality disorders in cluster B, multiple substance addictions and more serious mood and dissociative disorders than could be accounted for otherwise. The American Psychiatric Association every once in a while has a nice satellite program at the professional meetings on the psychiatry of American celebrities, and it is always a very well-attended session. The discussion slices and dices every movie star with known problems using publicly available information. Several well known comedians (Jonathan Winters, Robin Williams, Carrie Fisher, Patty Duke) are known bipolar disorder patients who have been public about their illnesses, and close examination of their performances and public appearances always gives a nice clue as to which particular cycle they are in at the time.

I used to be a big movie buff... would see dozens of movies a year in the 70s and 80s. I'm lucky if I go to one or two movies a year now. I can no longer stomach most of the trash put out by Hollywood. I had no idea the Oscars were even on tonight until I read this on Newsbusters. Years ago, I used to love to cheer for my favorite actors/films to win. Tonight, as I read over a list of nominees and winners, I didn't even recognize 90% of the movies or actors. No bias there! Sigh. This is why NB desperately needs explicitly-libertarian competition, IMO.
The hard vacuum created by all this sucking keeps getting filled anyway, but people like me or Daily Show joke writers always need to do the job, instead of NB, when it comes to statist-not-liberal bias. Why not just do your jobs, and bust ALL mediabias? (I know, I ask that "do your jobs" question of the "mainstream" media, too, and I never get an answer from them, either.)
And for another example of totally-unbusted bias, check out what "not campaigning in Michigan" looks like, for some REAL comedy. First, let's hear the media's oft-repeated talking point lie:

Funny how leftwing Hollywood in cahoots with the Democrats try to stifle internet freedom in order to save their profits while in their leftwing movies they go out of their way to trash capitalism and obscene profits. But when it comes to their own obscene profits they don't hesitate suing a grandma or taking down a legitimate business together with the corrupt Justice Department under corrupt Eric Holder. But when a small man on the street cries foul on the Tea Party, they don't care a fig and call you racist capitalist. For decades, the Oscars rewarded commercial as well as artistic success (see "Titanic" and "LOTR: Return of the King"). But now the awards have gone Euro-weenie on us, preferring films that are strictly "Art" (yecch!). While "The Artist" is beautifully made (from the clips I've seen), it is clearly not a big box-office draw. "The King's Speech", another handsomely-crafted movie, did better at the BO but was not exactly a blockbuster. No wonder the show's TV ratings have been sinking...

Submitted by lrgon on Tue, 02/28/2012 - 2:53pm.
Being the Master of ceremonies at the Oscars is a high paying gig; it helps keep him in the eyes of the entertainment happy public.
If the public did not put such a high value on celebrity status and placed a higher value on true traditional virtues like honest marriage, honest money, honesty in our lives, honest declarations of war, honest US independence, honest adherence to the Constitution and not to the Party, we've have somebody like Jane Seymour as MC of the Oscar awards. The presenters would be handing out Oscar to actors for portraying characters in clean movies. Remember those movies?
Today Crystal has to be politically correct and play to that environment. If he was behaving like John Wayne he'd be out of a job.
Crystal isn't doing anything differently in attacking the Republican party contenders than would a GOP celebrity deliver typical snide remarks at the Obamacrats at a GOP gabfest.
Truth is the first victim in war. And on that stage is a war of words being waged on the American public. The left is winning because they are organized while the "conservatives" are still suckling at the GOP tit incapable of making a move without permission from mama GOP.
This leads me back to the original thought I had when I read the first knee jerk reply in the comments section: Hollyweed news reports a comment made by a Billy Crystal, Tony Bennett, or whoever and GOPville reacts to a symtom and reacts violently in a "how dare they" manner but then they zombie-like open the bottle and swallow the same old drugs purchased at GOP drug store..

Here we have Tea Party people voting for a guy that Obama patterned his facist "healthcare" bill after! We have hoards of good old boy GOPers and ladies GOP auxillary members casting their ballot for a guy that supported the Troubled Assets Relief Program. It's amazing how soon they (Tea Party) forgot why they lined up all across America to protest TARP!
Hundreds of thousands dropped the "conservative-traditionalist' principles from their repertoire just to vote for the businessman with the smile and the suit.
God in heaven forgives sinners because He is pure love and full of mercy. His mercy however has certain limitations. The Israelites had to wander the desert for 40 more years due to their worship of false idols. America will not last long when "conservatives" like those voting today who have forgotten their heritage; who have thrown their support behind a "businessman" that can never hide his socialist past nor be anything other than a socialist. They may try with all their might to believe him to be otherwise; they may even have his image cast in gold, but Romney the businessman, the man that led the Olympics out of the desert into the desert of Utah, will always be the loser his father was - a GOP socialist. And never has a socialist saved anything but power unto himself and to those around him who direct his every step to take America into the New World Order.
