David Gregory Echoes Obama Adviser, Asks John Kerry 'Does Romney Have a Core Politically?'

By Noel Sheppard | November 20, 2011 | 22:08

White House senior adviser David Plouffe made headlines last month when he told NBC's David Gregory that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney "has no core."

On Sunday's Meet the Press, the host decided to play the part of one of Barack Obama's closest allies and ask Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), "Does Romney have a core politically?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

DAVID GREGORY, HOST: You have a White House now that is trained on a former Massachusetts politician in Mitt Romney, saying that he has no core, preparing to go after him, as Rahm Emanuel did in Iowa last night, on flip-flopping. A lot of people saying this is basically the same election playbook that then President Bush used against you successfully. Is it going to work this time?

SENATOR JOHN KERRY (D-MASSACHUSETTS): Well, I don't know, David. I've been so focused on this deficit reduction, I honestly have not been following the ins and outs of all of that. It's--you know, let them choose their nominee and we'll see where we wind up.

MR. GREGORY: Does Romney have a core politically?

SEN. KERRY: You know, I--again, you know, there are few people I've met in public life who have changed on as many issues as he has, every major touchstone of American politics, from abortion to guns to war to God to gays, you name it. So people will make their own judgments about that. I was accused of voting once for one thing and another. I did it as a matter of principle. I said, "If this plan doesn't have--if this bill doesn't have a plan about this war then I would oppose it. So I opposed it as a matter of principle, and I'll defend that till the day I die. And, and, and he's going to have to defend his positions throughout this race if he's the nominee.

It's almost as if Gregory saw CNN's Dan Lothian ask Obama that pathetic question about whether GOP presidential candidates are "uninformed, out of touch, or irresponsible" last Sunday and thought to himself, "I can do a better job of shilling for the President than that."

taking America to the gutter

Submitted by MidAmerica on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 10:31pm.

The democrats cannot run on their (lack of) achievements.  This election will be one of the nastiest dirtiest campaigns we have ever seen.  It is the ONLY way for obama to win.  He will have to run a "Yeah I stink but my opponent is even worse" campaign.  The dems in the media will run non-stop character assassinations.  The country will be more divided and angrier but they don't care and will do anything to reelect obama.  obama is more important to them than the country.

Gregory was off the charts

Submitted by metaphorsbwithu on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 10:45pm.

Gregory and his panel were off the charts this morning in shilling for Obama and the Democrat Party and trashing the Republican candidates.

As I recall, Dee Dee Myers called Newt Gingrich a "political sociopath".

Gregory brought up Cain's "pause" on the Libya question.

He did a short apology for Obama declaring Perry was lying before showing the Perry ad in which he asserted Obama called Americans "lazy".

He let Kerry get away with claims that the Democrats cut hundreds of billions in spending already (the bogus MediCare "cuts" and - apparently - the "debt ceiling deal") with no followup or challenge as he would have had any Republican (like he did with Kyl) said anything he disagreed with.

Kerry actually rambled on and on in a mini-campaign speech while Gregory sat back suddenly mute and allowed him to complete his irrelevant monologue.

Then to top it off, after virtually no reporting on the horrors of the "Occupy" movement and the litany of offenses by the mobs, Gregory trashed recent comments by Gingrich and Republicans regarding the movement and, LO and BEHOLD, finally broadcast some action video of the occupiers ... apparently being pepper sprayed at the University of California, claiming OCCUPIERS were being brutalized.

With a wonderful sense of timing, he then allowed Dee Dee Myers a wrap-up in which she alone was able to comment of OWS in which she praised the movement with no rebuttle from anyone.

If it were supposed to be comedy no one would buy it because it requires "suspension of disbelief"!

I don't even watch NBC anymore....

Submitted by drsamherman on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 10:55pm.

Gregory is such a poor host. He comes off like a demented cheerleader on crystal meth with his Obaminions. Good grief...it would take me at least 20 mg of Valium to get through listening to that has-been Ding Dong Myers.....

Meet the Press ...

Submitted by metaphorsbwithu on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 11:06pm.

It's hard to stomach but I force myself to watch sometimes so I can speak from experience and give specific examples of media bias when I'm challenged by my liberal friends.

Not that facts mean anything to the overwhelming majority of liberals.

"Someone" should play clips of a typical Gregory "interview" with a conservative like Michelle Bachmann or Herman Cain side-by-side with clips from your typical Democrat or lefty.

You wouldn't even have to turn the sound on to see the difference.

With that level of dedication, perhaps you should ask to become a blogger, here.

With just a tad bit more (i.e. links and such)....your post would and should be considered blogger material, here.

Thanks for the report. We (well most of us, here, anyway) ignore the MsM...but it's maddening to know that millions of sheeple still slurp at the trough of the MsM.

having forced myself to sit through close to nine years of O'Reilly so I could debunk his absurd claims of ideological neutrality--a remarkably easy task.

I don't watch MTP so much these days. However, I have witnessed Gregory ripping into some Democrats on occasion. [I once posted a transcript of him reducing Axlerod to a whimpering dolt.] But if mbwu watches weekly and is keeping score, I'll defer to his voice of experience and authority.

What's stands out like a wart

Submitted by celator on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 11:01pm.

What's stands out like a wart on their noses with all these MSM commentators commenting on these "awful Republicans" is that there is zero objective coverage of the Obama Administration. Nothing about his missteps, his attack on American institutions, his lies and distortions, his payoffs to political cronies, his relationships with the darkest elements of American society. Nothing.

And there won't be any such coverage from the MSM. Ever.

NB you missed....

Submitted by zenman1661 on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 11:23pm.

the most outrageous false claim that Kerry said during the interview. In an attempt to validate the Democrats in the Supercommittee rejecting the Republicans modest tax overhaul proposal, and raise taxes so much higher, Kerry lied and said that the Simpson-Bowles debt reduction plan called for equal parts spending cuts and revenue increase. Of course, in reality it called for far greater spending cuts then more revenue.

I don't think NB "missed"

Submitted by metaphorsbwithu on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 11:32pm.

I don't think NB "missed" that point, just that Noel chose to comment on the single issue of the Romney question and how Gregory regurgitates Democrat talking points..

Almost every sentence Kerry uttered could be made into a commentary.

The key things about Simpson-Bowles (to me) is how it did not address ObamaCare and that Obama and the Democrats promptly ignored the recommendation.

"I've been so focused on the deficit reduction..". Sure you have, Lurch, that's why I haven't seen your ugly mug for awhile, 'cause you're such a deficit hawk. Wonder if he's as focused as he was dumping his stock based on insider information on the coming Dem-caused economic suffering back in 2009?

His little yacht tax problems really add credibility, right?

Submitted by drsamherman on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 11:36pm.

Between his lame explanations and the Ta-ray-zuh gigolo schtick, his credibility is right down there with Moochelle Antoinette's naming of her daughters as "senior staff" on the recent luxury junkets she made.

Ya got that right!

Submitted by ant on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 11:57pm.

I don't know how we keep ending up with these people. I spent over a decade in Massachusetts and nobody I met was a big fan of people like Kerry. Something stinks in Denmark, I think. Obviously, there are always dopes that will vote for Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi, Waters, et al, but enough to put them back in office over and over for years, in spite of great scandal and revealed corruptions? I don't buy it.
Speaking of Michelle Antoinette, Dr., have you seen this yet?

I did! Demos have their panties in a wad over it.

Submitted by drsamherman on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 1:56pm.

How dare you boo the first wookie! How dare you think she is political! And on and on ad nauseam.

What is truly puzzling is why Moochie would even bother going to an event whose fans she and her husband hold in utter disdain and especially they are both aware of the political leanings of the majority of NASCAR fans. She just doesn't understand why those fans want nothing to do with her, especially after the luxury junkets, the "bitter clingers" remark and her cheeseburger-munching hypocrisy over school lunch content. Gee, not trying to artificially create a situation, are they?

Now it is heard the White House wants to do a country music festival. Could they get more blatant about the pandering to a base that wants nothing to do with their Chicago mob politics? No.

Kerry trying to sound

Submitted by amyshulk on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 12:39am.

Kerry trying to sound forceful was sad.

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

A tool is a tool

Submitted by greydawg on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 1:31pm.

Gregory's performance is easy to understand if you remember that the way he prepares for his weekly assault on conservatives is to bend over and have the day's liberal talking points inserted.

Liberal talking point?

Submitted by red-sox-rudy on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 4:46pm.

Someone needs to go over to the Free Republic and other conservative web sites and tell them that they are "shilling for the President", because the idea that Romney is flip-flopper who will say anything to get elected seems to be a pretty common theme.
