Maher: 'In Today's Republican Party There's a Term for People Who Hate Charity and Love Killing - Christian'

It sure didn't take HBO's Bill Maher long to make his first hateful remark about the religious right.

Roughly one minute into his opening monologue on Friday's "Real Time" the host said, "In today's Republican Party there's a term for people who hate charity and love killing - Christian" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BILL MAHER: Are you watching these debates? I mean, yes, the politicians are bad, but the people who egg them on. There, these crowds cheering for executions, cheering for letting people without health insurance die. In today's Republican Party there's a term for people who hate charity and love killing: Christian. These are Christians?

Ah, yes. Another idiot who thinks attendees at Monday's Republican presidential debate were actually cheering for someone to die.

It's almost like they all get marching orders and talking points from the same person within the White House.

Might her first name be Valerie?

My concern is that Maher isn't just misguided or bigoted.

Submitted by Mike Bratton on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 12:07pm.

My concern is that he's out-and-out evil--that he's willfully abandoned any notion of decency and given himself over to hate.

His comments are so unsupportable, so far removed from reality, that I'm worried he's passed the point of no return.

Why the concern and worry?

Maher is what he is, a hate mongering, leftist, elitist, celebritard.

Do what i do, ignore him, tell your provider you want to cancel HBO because of him, block his show to make sure he never even accidentally gets a rating point from you.

And then remember, his is a true disorder of hatred, he will never change without help from God, or a dang good shrink.

Interestingly

Submitted by GregE on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 12:14pm.

The statement, which is supposed to be a joke, is funny to those who are completely ignorant to the truth. Anything so asinine as that is only seen as funny by someone with massive lack of understanding. That is likely a large portion of his audience though.

Also, what he views as "charity" is government taking from one to give to another. Of course that action by government is what the Left understands to be charity. We all know that. That is the thinking of the Left, and it's nothing new. He's stating what he believes to be true.

He he is also stating that Christians love killing. Again, only humorous to the completely ignorant. On top of that, his statement is coming from the mouth of someone who fully supports killing the unconvicted-for-any-crime unborn. I doubt he loves that type of killing, but he fully supports it. But, he also doesn't view that type of killing as killing in the first place. He's standing on stage, ignorantly describing himself with a statement that is actually a boomerang that he doesn't even realize is one. And as an added benefit, neither does his audience.

Submitted by Maestroh on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 12:36pm.

I would be willing to bet anyone here that Bill Maher:

a) takes every tax break he can get so he can pay as little tax as possible

b) spends more of his "spare money" on himself than on others

c) favors killing SOMEBODY even it's Osama Bin Laden

and

d) doesn't see his own hypocrisy in the process.

Submitted by rbosque on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 12:54pm.

No one has been more pro-life and charitable than Christians for many centuries. It's the ravenous left that was born on violence and thrives on violence. Maher supports the very foundation of hatred of mankind-abortion.

It is only the lefts twisted

Submitted by ThePickle on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 1:40pm.

It is only the lefts twisted definitions of both "charity" and "killing" that makes this mook even remotely relevant, even to his dwindling throngs of adoring fans.

Charity as defined by the left = Government TAKES your money to "give" it to someone THEY deem worthy of it.

Killing as defined by the left = denying deadbeats a completely free ride on the health care train on someone else's dime.

It's Orwellian

Submitted by Galvanic on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 2:47pm.

Look at the terms that the Left throws around now to make its agenda palatble --

INVESTMENT = taxes and spending. Clinton was the first President I can recall using this term. Taking money from us to pay for Viagara benefits in a teachers union, or to buy birth control pills for women in Kenya, is supposed to improve our future.

FEDERAL FAMILY = Washington. This is a recent one; sounds friendly, don't it? But it's a dysfunctional family which spends more than it earns, borrows $$$ constantly, and unabashedly puts the burden of debt on future generations who have no say at this time. Most of us want out of the Federal Family.

TELEPHONIC TOWN HALL = political info-mercial. You've probably gotten one of these. The phone rings, you pick it up, and a robo-voice invites you to participate in a "town hall" with your local elected official. Once you're on, you realize that is sounds heavily scripted, and you can't ask a question. Pure propaganda.

HUMANITARIAN MISSION = combat. Blowing someone up is not combat if your objective is to prevent a massacre, real or perceived.

I actually kind of pity Maher

Submitted by LinTaylor on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 2:27pm.

Imagine what it must be like going through life when certain words (like "Republican", "conservative", "Christian", "limited government", and "personal restraint") send you into a Pavlovian response of frothing, irrational hatred. It must be terrible, not having control over your own mind and emotions like that. At least he has Kathy Griffin and Rosie O'Donnell to sympathize with him.

Let's see - which party is it

Submitted by Slyrr on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 2:26pm.

Let's see - which party is it that's trying to shut down all religious charities, and force everyone to pool their money into the government? Ah - it's the Democrats.

Which party is it that wants to rip unborn babies from their mothers' wombs, grind them into paste, and then bathe in the juice in the hope that it will somehow make them immortal? Ah - it's the Democrats. Which party is it that thinks it's OK to take people off life support? Which party is it that's rationing health care under 'government control'? Which party is it that's denying emergency funding to states with natural disasters because they aren't voting for 'the right party'? Ah - it's the Democrats. Which party is it that laughs at the unemployed whose lives have been destroyed by their economic policies, jeering at them as 'bumps in the road'? Which party is it that is setting up 'death panels' to deny medical treatment to the elderly, saying that they're just going to 'give 'em a pain pill' and send them home to die? Ah - it's the Democrats.

So which party is it really - that seems to hate charity and love killing?

No points for guessing.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

How does Maher know the applause was from Christians?

Submitted by Galvanic on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 2:55pm.

The applause came from off-camera. Even if he was in the audience of the debate, how would he know these people are Christians.

Maher's instinctive hatred for Christians -- whom he blasts as hypcrites and evil -- is once again made evident.

Imagine a Democratic debate where one of the debaters says, "America's policies are what justifies terrorist attacks against us," and when some in the audience applaud, I say, "There's a new name for Democrats who hate America and wish us harm -- Muslim."

Facts about Maher..

Submitted by greggy on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 4:13pm.

When Maher says Christians "love killing", he's referring to the applause/support for capital punishment that was voiced for Rick Perry's statement on the subject at the Reagan library debate. Which bears noting, a) there are many Republicans who are more secular than religious - so how does he know which of those who clapped was which? b) the audience wasn't applauding generic killing, they were applauding in support of the death penalty for convicted murderers, and most Americans support capital punishment, c) on his previous show Maher was an early supporter of the Iraq war, and supported "killing" through the use of laser guided bombs. So I guess Maher loves "killing" too. and d) Maher on Real Time once made the case that assassinating Dick Cheney was a morally defensible action - so he not only loves killing, he loves assassinating high American government officials.
I wonder if either of Maher's Catholic parents have lived long enough to see their son attack and insult and defame and ridicule their faith?
It's also interesting to watch a person condemn Republicans as hateful and "mean", who night after night spews hateful bile at those he disagrees with, defames them routinely, and collects a handsome paycheck for it every week. Either the man has no self-awareness whatsoever, or he's a zen-master at the art of projection.
One the second subject, is Maher aware of the fact that conservative Christians give more money to charity than self-proclaimed bleeding heart liberals do? And, does Mr. Maher remember making the following statement on his prior show, Politically Incorrect?:
"When I think of the Republicans I like, I think of a mean old man who's going to protect my money". That statement doesn't sound like someone who even supports government "charity", does it?
The other glaring problem here is the disingenuous use of the word "charity". A great deal of what government does can only be called "charity" if one has a twisted, sick sense of humor - which Maher certainly does. A great percentage of tax dollars collected by government do not ever reach the truly poor and disadvantaged they are supposedly intended to help - far too many tax dollars are instead absorbed by bureaucracy, graft, fraud, crony capitalism, and what is left over is what "trickles down" to those truly in need. I don't know the actual number, but it wouldn't surprise me if the actual money eventually reaching the truly needy is less than 25 cents on the dollar. (Fellow NB'ers, please provide info..) I'd hardly call that "charity", in fact I'd call it graft, or fraud. If a private charity organization keeps 75 cents of every dollar donated, liberals call that reprehensible, a crime, a fraud, an outrage! When government chews up 75 cents on the dollar liberals call that "the cost of doing business".

Every study has shown that

Submitted by eaglewingz08 on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 3:30pm.

Every study has shown that Christians donate more to charity than liberals. I bet the average Christian gives more money to charity as a percentage of income than Maher and his liberal cronies. And just because Christians support capital punishment doesn't mean they "love killing people". They just believe in just punishment for persons who have broken the ultimate social contract with their fellow citizens and society. It doesn't mean we "love killing", we just want to insure justice.

Submitted by ReaganRuled on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 5:03pm.

I know that this is technically the purpose of Newsbusters. But in Maher's case .. could we just stop giving that loser media attention?! He's stuck on HBO because NO ONE ELSE wants him, and I stopped my HBO sub years ago because I got tired of their made-for-TV crap, and Lesbo-this/Homo-that all the time (I actually thought that HBO was for movies, but I guess I was wrong!), but I think we can surmise that his "career" has been on fumes for years! Aside from the VERY occasional "Band Of Brothers" and the like, HBO is a shadow of its former self. No need to give coverage to their tripe!

The ONLY way that anyone knows what Maher says is because of websites like Newsbusters giving him coverage!

What IS hbo anymore?It

Submitted by Slyrr on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 5:47pm.

What IS hbo anymore?
It started back in the late 70s, early 80s, can't recall which. Back then, cable TV was only just coming into existence. The main channels were still 'the big 3' networks, and that was pretty much it. Back then, it also took several YEARS for a movie to move from the big screen to TV. You either had to buy it when it came out on video - or, you could subscribe to something new called HBO - 'Home Box Office'. It was a neat idea - a channel that showed only theater movies, and it showed them before they came out on video, and months/years before they would be on network TV.

Fast forward to today. A movie released in theaters can now be on cable TV inside a month or two. And not just 'movie channels' - they can wind up elsewhere, depending on which studio produced the movie, it could go to a cable channel which that studio owns. 'Movie channels' like HBO are dinosaurs from the early days of cable. They were created to show movies, first, before any other channel could get them, and for people who didn't want to bother buying a Beta or VHS tape. But those days are long gone.

I used to watch HBO at a friend's house when I was a teenager - because it was one of the only place to see movie releases on TV. We had fun watching Star Wars and the like on them. Our family didn't have HBO, and looking at what it is now, I'm GLAD I don't have it.

If I want to have my intelligence insulted, my values stomped on, and everything I hold good and decent in life urinated on, maybe I'll subscribe to HBO. Until that day comes thought, HBO can rot for all I care.

Obama has put over one tenth of the country out of business, and out of work. They no longer 'count' these people, in a vain attempt to deny their misery and save their own misbegotten jobs as politicians. They call them 'bumps on the road', to be stomped on and squashed if they dare to get in a politician's way. Soon the Post Office will be out of business - more 'created or saved' jobs, eh, Obama? I don't want anyone else to have to lose their jobs.

But if the NYT, Newsweek, USA Today, Rolling Stone, HBO, Showtime and a host of other liberal media groups should happen to depart to the dung heap of history, I won't shed a tear. It would serve Mahar right if he wound up in rags, living under a bridge - heck, he's already half way towards being a troll. Alas - Obama has ransacked our paychecks and funneled billions of dollars in kickbacks to these media groups, so they can keep their failed businesses alive at our expense.

It's enraging how they lie through their yellow, snaggle teeth. 'Oh no, we're not getting any Obama money!' Yeah, right.

The sooner we cast them out of office the better. Then we can cut off their funding and let them die out as they so richly deserve.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.
