Wonkette Pulls Offensive Post About Sarah Palin's Handicapped Son

By Noel Sheppard | April 21, 2011 | 16:43

Noel Sheppard's picture

As NewsBusters reported Wednesday, the liberal website Wonkette published a truly disgraceful piece earlier in the week about Sarah Palin's Down's syndrome son Trig.

Under intense pressure from readers and advertisers, the site's editor took the post down Thursday:

A post on this page satirizing Sarah Palin using her baby as a political prop was very badly done and sounded like the author was mocking the child and not just Sarah Palin/Sarah Palin’s followers.

The writer, Jack Stuef, has apologized for it. And we have decided to remove the post as requested by some people who have nothing to do with Sarah Palin, but who do have an interest in the cause of special needs children. We apologize for the poor comedic judgment.

After our article and others from conservative as well as liberal websites expressed outrage for the now deleted post, pressure was put on Wonkette editor Ken Layne by some unlikely sources including Mediaite's Tommy Christopher and Slate's David Weigel.

When Layne unrelented, companies such as Papa John's Pizza, Huggies, Nordstrom, and others cancelled their ads.

Maybe this will finally teach these vulgarians that children shouldn't be used as pawns in this dirty game of politics.

Interesting, Noel, they did this ...

Submitted by Tom Blumer on Thu, 04/21/2011 - 4:49pm.

... after Layne spent all kinds of time saying it was useless to take it down because of Google cache, etc.

Looks like $omeone talked some $ense into him.

I love the deflective excuse about pulling it because of special needs kids, and not because it was outrageous from beginning to end, including a hit at Todd Palin that I can't repeat here. I guess that one's still OK?

You know, it's really sad that this disgusting article was posted in the first place. It's also sad that they decided to delete the article only after pressure from advertisers. Obviously Mr. Stuef and Mr. Layne have absolutely no dignity or a single ounce of character.

What I don't understand is why any self-respecting business...

Submitted by Dave. on Thu, 04/21/2011 - 5:32pm.

...operation would want to buy advertising space (and thus help financially support) a site that is written by and for people who are doing their damndest to tax and/or regulate them into the toilet.

And that goes double for Papa John's, which has franchisees (small business owners) all over the country, and who Obama is taking dead aim at with his hideous tax increases.

That makes about as much sense to me as advertising maternity wear and baby cribs on Planned Infanticide's site.

Reality Check

Submitted by richb313 on Thu, 04/21/2011 - 6:06pm.

The biggest corperations and companies already have bought special tax breaks and more regulation and taxes helps protect them from competition. Look at GE. This is nothing new and both political parties are complicit in this travesty. You want real competition then we need to get rid of most of the regulations which do nothing to protect the consumer but do protect the entrenched intrests.

Curious (to me) that comments on the "apology" article are disabled.

It would have been interesting to see if (or how badly) regulars at that site would have savaged the ones responsible for the decision to pull the article.

Submitted by tcm14 on Thu, 04/21/2011 - 5:42pm.

What's most disgusting to me is that they are still attacking Palin and her supporters in the apology. ("it sounded like the author was mocking the child and not just Sarah Palin/Sarah Palin’s followers" and "we have decided to remove the post as requested by some people who have nothing to do with Sarah Palin").

In other words, Palin deserves to be attacked this way.

I would hope the advertisers would read some of the other posts by little Jackie Stuef. While this one was truly outrageous, the others are equally venomous. Same for his boss Ken Layne's posts.

And true to Wonkette principles, Layne lashed out at the advertisers who bailed for being homophobic, if you can believe that.

Of course little Jackie is, you guessed it, a homosexual.

Nice work. We all barraged that dump yesterday from my net-world as you all here did too, I'll tell you that much

Great to see they backed down. It goes to show there's more of us out here than those vile sick and demented leftists who like going around kicking Christian conservatives because far too many have lost their teeth and their will to kick assss when it needs to be kicked. Yesterday it needed to be kicked and do it enough times these people will chill out soon enough.

I'm a God fearing American too out here, but I don't take any crap from those people and they back down very quickly when you show em your teeth and growl, is all it usually takes. They're like so called Holy Warrior Muslims. They hide behind women and children, and once challenged they run like girls.

Just like they eventually did, because early in the day they refused to 'pull it down' as was noted here and at Mediatate where I also fought many of em as well.... I seriously commented over there 20 times each just myself, beating the snot out of those ignorant kids with their own vile medicine one by one through the afternoon, of which it gladly consumed most of mine.

We really need to get back that old (I know people will bash this but it's true), that old Christian "look here Muhammad and lefty loons, you either chill or you perish" attitude that Christians finally had to take during the Crusades, when leftist radicals Muslims ran ramshod all over Europe, as lefties are doing here now. They are OUT OF CONTROL. Some people just can't be reasoned with.

The Old 1950's America at it 's peak would have leveled the Middle east after 911, not tried to 'save' them. We've become too PC and nice, all of us and it's obviously not working out.. Not anymore for me.

"Cold Civil War".....

The body count maybe in the murdered unborn, and the lives destroyed in pursuit of a guilt free hedonistic lifestyle,.. but it's a war none the less. I've heard the phrase before, and I believe it's entirely accurate. Two philosphies deadlocked in verbal combat..

One, the hard left, openly agitating for the criminalization of speech, to outlaw opinions, accurate news reports on their behavior, facts, both historical, and newly discovered that run contrary to liberal doctrine....

The right, holding to the original American dream, fighting a multifront action against the media left, religious(heh) left, the academic left, the political left... all in lockstep to indoctrinate the next generation in their belief system no matter what those useless to the state parents think. Well, useless in any capacity other than government ATM depositers.

The fight is over the American soul, wether we'll be the nation of responsible individuals who believe in hard work and fair rewards for that labor.

or another failed nanny state with a complient citizenry so focused on what the next doggy treat will be from big government.. they forgot how to feed themselves on their own.

it seems a no brainer..

But we all know how savagely some will fight to keep that government money train to their favored friends going... where we leaped from cutting spending to being the cavedwellers who want grandma to live on cat food in a dumpster.

You need an especially evil mind to say that about your own countrymen, when you know it's a lie.

We had better win this one too, or they'll make sure there are fewer of us to ever rebel against them again.

and after this weekend, yes, some of them are exactly that evil.

Gutless, cruel cowards...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Thu, 04/21/2011 - 11:17pm.

No one should be truly surprised by Stuef’s comments or by the fact that Wonkette posted them in the first place…This is a further example of the sick, twisted, vicious bile that spews from the left every single day. Where’s the outrage about these comments from the MSM? All we hear are crickets. The corrupt left wing media are more than happy to allow a pass on comments such as these, but if someone from the right had said something similar, the MSM would be screaming, and rightly so…But, those on the left look the other way when one of their own says or writes something reprehensible like this, particularly against Sarah Palin and/or anyone in her family. The left appears to be brimming with miserable, despicable people who have no problem at all attacking an innocent child in an attempt to trash his mother and her family…Sick, sick, sick.

The fact that this piece has been pulled matters not...It never should have been posted in the first place.  And let's not make the mistake of thinking that the cretins behind these despicable comments have learned anything from this episode...They haven't. They'll do it again, and again and again, as long as they feel it is a useful tool to bash Sarah Palin with...It's that simple.

Submitted by Phryj1 on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 3:47am.

And a hard fought one at that.

Did you see how whoever writes their Twitter feed lashed out like a spoiled child over Papa John's pulling their ads? Wow. That alone should make any advertiser think twice about supporting Wonkette.

Just to give you an idea of exactly what Wonkette is all about: They claim Koch Industries forced it's employees to vote for Tea Party candidates. What really happened was Koch Industries gave it's employees a pamphlet asking them to vote for Tea Party candidates and telling them why it's good idea, including reasons why leaving the Dems in charge would have dire consequences for the country. Wonkette twisted that around to say Koch Industries threatened employees with dire consequences if the didn't vote for the Tea Party. Wonkette is a bunch of liars.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

One thing Palin bashers don't

Submitted by GrannyGrump42 on Fri, 04/22/2011 - 1:27pm.

One thing Palin bashers don't get is that her supporters genuinely LIKE kids, including kids with disabilities, and that we welcome them. Lots of people brought their kids to Palin rallies, and would have seen it as weird if Palin herself hadn't brought hers. It'd be like showing up at Thanksgiving dinner without them. But libs don't get that because they don't really actually LIKE kids, so the idea that people want them around is alien to them. You must have an ulterior motive, they think, because they don't get that anybody actually likes the little abortion fodder.

People at the Palin rallies wanted to see Trig and Piper just as much as they wanted to see the mom. I saw buttons all over the place saying "Piper's Mom '08" and "Piper Palin 2036". Piper was eating it up. Why should her mom deny her something she enjoys? The crowd went nuts when Bristol brought Trig out, cooing and making happy sounds. What mom doesn't like it when people gush over her baby? When Trig got tired of being on stage, Bristol brought him backstage, where no doubt a staffer took care of him so he'd be happy.

They just don't get it.
