Only Fox News and Don Imus Report Schumer's Branches of Government Gaffe
On Monday, NewsBusters asked, "Will Chris Matthews and MSNBC Spend Week Bashing Schumer's Branches of Government Gaffe?"
It turns out that not only didn't Matthews or MSNBC mention Sen. Chuck Schumer's (D-N.Y.) blunder on that network's extended prime time programs Monday, but a LexisNexis search identified that out of all America's many mainstream media outlets, only Fox News's Bret Baier and Fox Business Channel's Don Imus thought this was at all newsworthy:
- BRET BAIER, "SPECIAL REPORT HOST," JANUARY 31: New York Senator Chuck Schumer says everyone in Washington needs to compromise to fix the debt crisis. Schumer explained in an interview Sunday, quote, "We have three branches of government. We have a House, we have a Senate, and we have a president. All three of us are going to have to come together and give some." Of course, Schumer forgot entirely about the judicial branch that equally shares power with the executive branch and the legislative branch. Schumer's office said it was a slip of the tongue and that he was referring to the three parties at the table.
- BERNARD MCGUIRK, FEBRUARY 1: And, our esteemed New York Senator, chief -- Senator Chuck Schumer. He was on one of the Sunday shows, this past Sunday. And, he was talking about -- they were talking about the debt ceiling or whatever it was, but listen to what he said.
SEN. CHARLES SCHUMER (D), NEW YORK: I would urge my Republican colleagues, no matter how strongly they feel, you know? We have three branches of government. We have a house, we have a senate, we have a president. And, all three of us are going to have to come together and give some.
(LAUGHTER)
DON IMUS, HOST: Three?
MCGUIRK: Maybe a tree branch knocked him stupid but this know-it-all balloon head who curses at flight attendants -- this genius senator.
And that's that.
CNN, the network Schumer was on when he made the comment, never mentioned or played it again. Not once.
And no American newspaper reported it, including those in Schumer's home state of New York. Not one.
By contrast, although Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) wasn't on any of the Sunday talk shows making a gaffe about our branches of government, CNN did three stories about her Monday.
MSNBC's Chris Matthews attacked Bachmann for the fifth day in a row Monday and the sixth day in a row Tuesday.
I guess we got our answer.
*****Update: Readers have noted that folks like Rush Limbaugh and others did note Schumer's gaffe. As this blunder was all the rage at conservative websites Sunday and talk radio Monday, I assumed people would understand I was referring to mainstream media's omission. Sorry for the confusion.

Why does Imus ask "Three?"

The three part is correct. Schumer simply doesn't know what the 3 are.

Maybe Congresscritters should be required to pass quarterly civics exams. If they score lower than an 80 (on 100 pt. exam) they are placed on Congressional (as opposed to academic) suspension with no voting power, no committee participations...nothing...until they complete a refresher course and pass a followup exam. Fail two times in a row? Dismissed from congress and special election called.msh1973~

Listen, I've been as astonished at the idiocy and sanctimonious ignorance of Schmuck U. Schumah for many years myself, and I keep wondering how a queebie-ass ambulance chaser with a face that BEGS for a backhand (and the attitude to back it up!!!) can keep getting elected again and again...............BUT - I'm over here in Hawaii, and if you know ANYTHING about the politics that we have here, you'd probably say that I don't have the credentials to make any judgements about anywhere else.
Have you seen our new governor - the union-owned, better-red-than-dead little cretin Neil Uber-Commie??? This guy is almost in the same league as Schumah..........except that he's from a much smaller state. And he brags about knowing Boy Barry's commie parents, and that he 'was here when the boy was born'. But when asked further about it, he says that his first memories of little Boy Barry are when he was playing T-ball, or something.................
And he CAN'T find the birth certificate, either!!! After flapping his bearded hippie jaws about how he was going to put the whole 'birther' problem to rest!! But........you now CAN buy a copy of Boy Blunder's 'certificate of live birth' from the State of Hawaii for only $100!!!! That will surely help our pathetic economy..................
Conservative values (the slings and arrows)

Hey killa37 - I sympathize with you. Back in ’96, my ship pulled into Pearl Harbor and a friend and I went over to the Commissary (a military subsidized grocery store for you landlubbers) to check out the prices… milk was going for around $4.75 per gallon and we wondered how the junior enlisted with a couple of kids could even afford to buy it – I have no idea how much milk cost on the local economy.
The bottom line is we conservatives who happen to live in states (I used to live in California) controlled by Democrats often get a lot of heat from our fellow conservatives. This is somewhat understandable, although still unfair. The real tragedy is that a lot of non-conservative people keep electing the same politicians singing the same tired tune over and over as if to think their representative is actually looking out for them. This is utter nonsense and so plainly obvious to anyone who has the desire to spend just a few minutes realistically considering possible alternatives.
Good luck! - You're going to need it under Neil "the weasel" Amercrombie.

If Sarah Palin had said this the MSM would have been playing the quote nonstop. The MSM would launch new cable channels for the sole purpose of getting more journalists on the air to make fun of her. But this piece of socialist **** says something clearly stupid and no one cares.

It's the new strategy
Submitted by pbthinker on Wed, 02/02/2011 - 12:33am.
The Demcrats, since they're not getting their message out, are trying a new strategy, brainwashing the American Public to forget about the Judiciary Branch because of the Health Care legislation that's being attacked in the courts. I guess if they can get their minions to believe that branch is not REALLY a co-equal branch, it will make it easier to circumvent their decisions.
It's sort of a play on the strategy to say that Fox News wasn't really a news organization, that way news that conflicted with their favorite news sources, wouldn't be considered "real news" just Fox News.

When these clowns have an election debate, it would be interesting if they took the first fifteen minutes and asked them some simple questions regarding how the Constitution works. Not the typical "gotcha" questions, but questions that would have been required of any sixth grader back in the 1950s.
