Will Chris Matthews and MSNBC Spend Week Bashing Schumer's Branches of Government Gaffe?
As NewsBusters has been reporting, the folks at MSNBC last week - in particular Chris Matthews - spent a great deal of time attacking former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) for comments they erroneously felt disqualified the conservative women from public office.
Will this network and its commentators pay as much attention to Sen. Chuck Schumer's (D-N.Y.) remarks on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday wherein he claimed the three branches of government are the House, the Senate, and the president (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CANDY CROWLEY, HOST: Let me turn you to domestic policy because it is budget season. It is time to raise the debt ceiling. Otherwise the U.S. is going to lose its ability to pay its debts.
Where do you see this fight going now?
Because, basically, we have a very determined bunch of Republicans right now, particularly on the House side, saying, no way we're going to raise this debt ceiling until we start doing some cutting.
SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D-N.Y.): Well, there's even a problem before the debt ceiling. On March 4th, the government funding resolution expires. And it seems that a lot of Republicans in the House want to risk a shutdown of the government if they don't absolutely get their way.
That was a mistake when Newt Gingrich tried it in 1995. It will be a bigger mistake now. It's really playing with fire because, if they were to shut down the government, not only would horrible things happen like an inability of people to get Social Security checks, you can't fund the military, but ultimately, it risks the credit markets.
They are getting wary because of the large debt we have, which we have to get down, but if they feel that people are willing to shut down the government, you could risk the credit markets really losing some confidence in the United States Treasury, and that could create a deeper recession than we had over the last several years -- God forbid, even a depression.
So I would urge my Republican colleagues, no matter how strongly they feel -- you know, we have three branches of government. We have a House. We have a Senate. We have a president. And all three of us are going to have to come together and give some, but it is playing with fire to risk the shutting down of the government, just as it is playing with fire to risk not paying the debt ceiling.
Imagine for a moment Palin or Bachmann saying something this stupid. So-called journalists - especially those on MSNBC! - would have a field day with it.
Matthews would call the speaker a balloon head, spending the next several days playing the comment over and over while claiming it shows a deplorable lack of knowledge about our political system thereby disqualifying said person from public office.
By contrast, and this is only a guess on my part, I highly doubt the "Hardball" host or any of the other shills on MSNBC will at all question the intellectual capacity of the Senior Senator from New York if this flub is even mentioned.
And even though it's filmed inside Schumer's state, I don't expect the folks at "Saturday Night Live" will do an opening sketch this weekend about their Senator's gaffe much as they did for Bachmann last weekend.
Perish the thought, for as we've seen so often in recent years from the liberal media, errors by Democrats are human; forgiving them is divine.

Noel, that was obviously what they call one of those rhetorical question. We've seen the coverage of the 57 states of America from the world's smartest man. This is another example of a mis-speak, which is defined as something incredibly stupid, but spoken by a liberal, analogous to a tree falling in the woods with no one to hear it.

He actually believes this.
Based on history he must think that the Court is now part of the legislative branch.

...once considered to be the Supreme Court, has not existed since Obama bad-mouthed them to their faces at last years SOTU. But then, Schumer may just be rattled by Kucinich suing the cafeteria before he had the chance.
The Supreme Court hasn't had a liberal majority in years.

Ignoring Schumer's stupidity

Ignoring Schumer's stupidity for a moment, if the Republicans cave and allow the debt ceiling to climb before March, does anyone here doubt that the Democrats won't be touting how debt under Republican control went to $XXX trillion during the 2012 campaigns? We are supposed to understand that anything bad in the country can be laid at the feet of the 112th Congress, because they assume contol in January of the trainwreck that the Democrats made of the economy in the last 5 years since 2006. The only thing they can't be blamed for is anything on Obama's plate, which after two years, is still the fault of President Bush. To simplify the blame matrix:

and having (possibly) at least a partial government shutdown. I can see the MSM stories now about government employees being foreclosed on and their kids going hungry. In other words, a win-win situation for the Dems, at least for the part of the electorate which is clueless. Clueless meaning most of the electorate who voted for Dear Leader in 2008.

Chuck Scummer is such a great example of our current herd of elitist, egotistical narcisistic government 'leaders'.
His repeated re-election speaks volumes about the intellect of the NY cement dweller electorate.
Nah.

I am still waiting for someone to ask him his thoughts on the GZ mosque. Schumer was strangely quiet about this. The MSM has been quiet for several months too.
He's not being strangely

He's not being strangely quiet, he's a puss. This is a divisive issue and you have to take a side when you comment. Either you see nothing wrong with the victory mosque or you do. Either you're an American or you're a poulty-passings coward afraid to stand up to a militant action from a group that is allowed to kill people who disagree with them and get away with it. There is also the political angle here. By not taking a side, he doesn't anger any of the union-types who might have taken offense. He gets a few more votes from Arab-Americans. He was never in any danger of losing the Jewish vote in New York. These people have demonstrated that you could rape their mothers and sisters and as long as you are liberal, you have their votes. They scream for protection for the Israeli state and then back politicians like Suha-kissing Clinton and the muslim-educated Obama, relying on conservatives from other states to preserve and support their holyland.

It really isn't "news" that liberals are morons and as dumb as a bag of rocks! Why bother to report it?
Under Obama's watch we have increased the size of this country to 57 states; moved the Panama Canal to Egypt; dropped the Supreme Court as a co-equal branch of government; removed "God" from all quotes from the Constitution; and are well on the way to turning over the Middle East and North Africa to radical Islam.
I'd say the SOB is right on schedule.

Is the Canadian Senate still a life-time appointment by the Crown (AKA Governor-General)? Do you take imports? We have some defective Senators we would love to send your way.

Schumer may be a elitist and paternalistic goon, but realistically the only thing he got wrong was the names of the “branches” in the government and the make-up of the actual power base.
For the sake of accuracy, I do acknowledge the actual 3 branches as Executive, Legislative, and Judicial (I say that to prove I’m not a complete idiot as some of you might believe after hearing the following screed).
The object here is to list the authoritative bodies which promulgate the rules and regulations under which we all must live… unless of course you are an illegal alien, a union member, a liberal or progressive, a ‘wonderful person’ who believes everything the liberal media says, or a ‘citizen of the world’ waiting for the next anti-American “Doctrine of Fairness” promulgated by the United Nations.
Let’s break-down some of authority over our lives by the federal government:
In the Executive branch there are 15 “Cabinet” level Departments ultimately controlled by the President. There is no need to list them all, but suffice it to say, each promulgates rules and regulations which we must obey. Additionally, there are at least 65 “Independent Agencies” within the purview of the Executive Branch… unless you discount the CIA (the real CIA - not the “Culinary Institute of America” one) and a couple of others that, by law don’t have authority within the U.S., we are still left with a whole bunch that have some form of regulatory power over our lives. The most egregious of these agencies is the EPA which has been granted Cabinet-level status.
Painful as it may be here is a partial list of some of the “Independent Agencies:” The GSA, The FCC, FDIC, FEC, the FFIEC (Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council), ACHP (Advisory Council on Historic Preservation) , Commission on the Future of U.S. Aerospace Industry, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) , Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), NEA, NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities), NIGC (National Indian Gaming Commission), TVA (yes…it’s still around), and a special salute to the folks at the IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services), etcetera ad nausea.
Total to date: 80 Department/Agencies (This list does not include the 4 “Offices” within the Executive (OMB, Office of the Trade Representative, Ambassador to the UN, and Council of Economic Advisors) nor does it include all the Czar’s appointed by his royal worthiness, or all of the “Bureaus” (i.e.: BLM) under the various Cabinet-level Departments).
The Legislative Branch has two main sub-branches (The House and the Senate) but has many Advisory Boards and Commissions (think back to the BRAC Commission fraud)… (there is probably not enough bandwidth on the entire internet to list them all).
Total to date: 82
The Judicial Branch: Not only is there only “one supreme Court” created by the Constitution… there are quite a few “inferior courts” created by the Congress. Unless overturned (excepting the one supreme Court) each of these courts can create rulings under which we must live (at least temporarily)
From the uscourts, gov website (editing and emphasis mine):
“The 94 U.S. judicial districts are organized into 12 regional circuits, each of which has a United States court of appeals….”
But there are also other courts. For instance, each of the 12 regional circuit courts has Bankruptcy Appellate Panels (“Bankruptcy Appellate Panels are 3-judge panels authorized to hear appeals of bankruptcy court decisions. These panels are a unit of the federal courts of appeals Bankruptcy Appellate Panels”).
Then there are the 6 “U.S. Courts of Special Jurisdiction” ( “U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, U.S. Court of International Trade, U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation”)
Total to Date: 207 (80 Executive Department/Agencies – 2 Legislative - 125 Judicial)
And I’m sure I missed a few here and there… so when we say, “There are 3 Branches in the Tree of Government” … we should remember we still have to live under the rules and regulations of all those twigs and leaves.
Note: Please do not get me started on local “Zoning or Building Departments… I could have a serious meltdown!” :o)
