Climate Alarmist Blames Egypt Crisis On Global Warming

By Noel Sheppard | January 31, 2011 | 09:44

Noel Sheppard's picture

On Friday, MSNBC's Chris Matthews blamed the crisis in Egypt on George W. Bush and the Iraq war.

Two days later, climate alarmist extraodinaire Joe Romm blamed it on - wait for it! - global warming:

This summer’s extreme global weather raised fears of a “Coming Food Crisis,” as CAP’s John D. Podesta and Jake Caldwell warned in Foreign Policy:  “Global food security is stretched to the breaking point, and Russia’s fires and Pakistan’s floods are making a bad situation worse.”  Earlier this month I discussed how, in fact, “Extreme weather events helped drive food prices to record highs.”  Back then, experts were worried about food riots.  Now they are happening.

The Washington Post reported on the connection between food prices and Tunisian  violence in mid-January, in a piece headlined, “Spike in global food prices contributes to Tunisian violence.” [...]

Robin Niblett, director of the Chatham House, was interviewed at Davos (click here) and said the Egyptian riots “were driven partly of course by the rise of food prices.”

NPR had a long story on the subject today, “Rising Food Prices Can Topple Governments, Too.”

After quoting various liberal media sources such as the Post and NPR, Romm reached this hysterical conclusion:

Energy insecurity and climate instability have now become key factors in food insecurity, which in turn has become a key factor in toppling governments. [...]

Those who think that the serious impacts of climate change — and our inane energy policies — on the world economy and U.S. national security are decades away are simply not paying attention.

Those of us that have been monitoring this insanity for years have regularly laughed at all the world's maladies these folks tie to global warming. Dr. John Brignell, a British engineering professor, publishes a growing list of such conspiracy theories at his website Number Watch.

I guess if Egyptians, after decades of poor treatment by a corrupt, authoritarian government, revolt and possibly topple said government, it's because in the past 160 years, the planet's temperature has risen by approximately (and debatably!) one degree Celsius.

Boggles the mind, doesn't it?

(H/T Marc Morano)

Both  Matthews and this character are morons.  Can I blame my bad knees on global warming?

I guess we should no longer be surprised by these assertions.

It's interesting that this crap passing for analysis comes up at Davos, where the world's wealth brokers meet.  Could it be that even the powerful are turning to "global warming" as a mask to distract the Left from the real factors behind price rises?  It's like the Kennedys assuming the role of Champion for the Poor.

Meanwhile, we know that at least part of the rise in food prices is attributable to the production of ethynol, which now consumes 40% of our corn production.  The higher demand for corn has caused prices to soar.

one can see same thing in

Submitted by jkwtrading on Tue, 02/01/2011 - 1:18am.

one can see same thing in almost all food commodities..  the peak prices are years ago but todays price is much higher (store shelves) thyen the peaks.

Coffee is a good example, it's peak price was 1998, at that time I paid 3 bucks for a lb, now I pay 9-10 bucks and price is about half on the commodity charts.

No it is not

Submitted by richb313 on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 10:02am.

No it is not, I know the real reason. 2300 years ago a minor star went supernova but contained within that star was an unusally dense core. The extra energy released in the form of exotic radiations started entering the earths atmosphere 12 years ago. This has led to the seeding of extra cloud particles which is widely known, what is not known, except by a few, is that the extra cosmic radiation has overwhelmed the natural earths defenses. The extra radiation is killing brain cells. This leads to more paranoid behaviour and outlook. That is the Real Reason.

OK I just made it all up, but all of it is plausible even if it is stupid. I bet a few of you might have even been sucked in, just a bit.

If you could somehow document

Submitted by Hunter12 on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 10:59am.

If you could somehow document that there was an evil scientist named GWB-el causing the supernova, who sent his offspring to the third planet from the sun of a minor planetary system, knowing the light of the yellow sun would give his progeny strange political powers, the LSM would totally buy it.

I think Hunter's got it figured out. The lefties can't get worked up about naturally occuring events. You gotta place the blame on man. Or more specifically A MAN (either G.W. Bush or Dick Cheney). After all, VP Dick Cheney caused North America to freeze, while witless President Bush was paralyzed by stupidity in "The Day After Tomorrow".

Yeah, I see the Muslim Brotherhood blaming it on global warming too.  Does anyone know what's Arabic for "stop global warming now" and has anyone heard it or seen signs in Arabic?  Maybe it's the graffitti spray-painted on the tanks?

Ok, I'm being just a touch sarcastic here.  The islamists could care less about global warming, they are into global dominance.

“The earth has transitioned through 7 ice ages.  That's 7 times from hot to cold and back.  All this before man walked the earth and could burn his first piece of coal.”

Obviously, it was that early conservative malcontent burning coal that caused the previous ice ages and started a chain of events cumulating in today’s global warming… and yes – no doubt he was a direct family ancestor of GWB (or is it Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann?)

The Mantra

Submitted by Huapakechi on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 10:27am.

You people just don't understand!  The earhquakes,  fires , floods, tsunamis, droughts, hurricanes, corruption, disease, political repression, religious terrorism, and riots are all due to anthropogenic global warming.  In fact, according to the accolytes of the one world government movement / global warming religion, there is no ill on the planet that is not due to manmade global warmning.

Scream down those who question or oppose!  Ignore the evidence!  Block the efforts to drill our own oil!  The citizens of the United States must suffer to tthe same degree as the subjects of every despotic socialist dictatorship around the globe!  <sarc off>

TANSTAAFL:  There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

These "green" vermin are using a web of regulation, mandate, and judicial fiat to destroy the economic engine that drives this nation.  They seek to strangle us by increasing the price of oil to insane hights.

This is the mantra of those who would eliminate the Constitution and subject this glorious experiment in Freedom to the whims and dictates of the corruptocracy of the united nations.

Something I wrote off the cuff yesterday...

Submitted by Ashrak on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 10:37am.

Oh where oh where did that Global Warming go?
Like when we were kids, we have ice and snow.

Heat waves was the reason, ignoring the season,
now that it's ice and snow the Warmers say whoa.

Warming causes cooling is now what they say,
pretending folks don't see the game that they play.

The doom and the gloom has come full circle, yet it's so darn strange,
now that ice and snow is the danger, its suddenly Climate Change.

So if the mercury rises or if it falls the solution to it all remains consistent,
pay more in taxes, cede more control and don't you dare be resistant.

That the science is settled and the debate is over is what we are endlessly told.
Being green means paying green and that alone controls both heat and cold.

The books were cooked and there's no way around it,
questioning with boldness sought truth and then found it.

Yes, climate changes and so does the weather
how do they think a scale became a feather?

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

There's a food crisis now.

Submitted by johnsonl on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 10:44am.

There's a food crisis now. There are too many people on our planet. The reason for that is, well, if you feed people who can't support their own populations with the resources that they control, you create a "false" population. Everything is fine until the resources to feed them run out. Then, they will starve themselves back to levels that can be maintained by their resources. Haiti is a perfect example. They are an overpopulated island that can't grow enough food to feed themselves. They have no other resources other than their population. If they want to survive, they will have to emmigrate or go to war.

It's really pretty simple:

Population=Resources

Are we strong enough to face facts and let nature take it's course?

And if a significant source of that food decides to stuff it into gas tanks, everything comes to a head very quickly.

Submitted by gopcongress on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 12:40pm.

Face it. If the GOP is banned, virtually every problem would be solved. No more global warming, no more racism, no more sexism. No more cars, no more billionaires; hell, no more millionaires. No more capitlism, no more dictators, no more crimes.

Yep, blame it all on the GOP. So ban the GOP,  then all is solved.

Another Environmental Disaster we didn’t see coming!

Submitted by Grumpy in Arizona on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 5:59pm.

Lake Tahoe is situated on the California/Nevada boarder.   It has just come to my attention that there are no Humpback Whales in the lake… how petty yet arrogant of us to think we could allow the Bush administration to give the Japanese fishing fleet open access to the lake with no ramifications!

I, for one, am appalled!!

And BTW, I have also noticed a decided lack of naturally occurring Polar Bears and Penguins near Coral Gables, Florida!

And don’t even get me started on the subject of no Manatees in Billings Montana!!!      ;o)
