Media Myth Busted: 'Americans View Palin as More Sincere and Believable After Watching Speech'

By Noel Sheppard | January 15, 2011 | 16:34

Media outlet after media outlet panned Sarah Palin's video response to last Saturday's Tucson shootings with some going so far as claiming it ended any chance she might have of becoming president assuming that's even her goal.

Destroying this myth was a new poll published by Media Curves that actually found Americans seeing the former Alaska governor as more likeable, sincere, and believable after watching her speech:

Respondents were asked to rate Sarah Palin on a scale from 1-7 regarding likeability, believability and sincerity, with 1 representing “not at all strong in this attribute” and 7 representing “extremely strong in this attribute.”

With the exception of likeability among Democrats, Palin’s attribute ratings increased among all parties after viewing her speech. The most notable increase was her sincerity ratings, which increased from 2.62 to 2.69 among Democrats, from 5.25 to 5.45 among Republicans and from 3.68 to 3.85 among Independents.

The poll also found:

  • An increase in the number of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents that see her as a positive figure in the United States after viewing the speech
  • 40 percent of Democrats, 81 percent of Republicans, and 56 percent of Independents feeling the speech helped her image
  • 37 percent of Democrats, 78 percent of Republicans, and 54 percent of Independents feeling the speech helped her potential run for president

That most certainly will come as a shock to MSNBC's Joe Scarborough who on Friday said Palin's response probably ended her political career.

CNN's Jack Cafferty made a similar observation on Thursday as did MSNBC's Chris Matthews.

Of course, these findings differing so much from media reports is not at all surprising as the press have been totally wrong about this event since the moment shots were fired.

I agree that Herman will do just fine managing the haters on the Left.  He is a bootstraps up, self-made man who's stared down adversity in life and work and resoundingly beat the odds.  Cancer didn't kill him, the Left sure won't.

Men like Herman Cain, Thomas Sowell, Walter E. Williams, and Clarence Thomas are towering figures whose intellect and accomplishments should be the stuff of school books and role models for our children.  These are men whose content of character should be the metrics others aspire.

Not that I necessarily think Palin should run in 2012, but she has single handedly done more to re-energize the Republican party than any other person since Reagan.

If the Republican power-elite can't get that through their pea brains, I can seriously see the Tea Party breaking off.  I'd prefer that the Tea Party take over, but the Old Guard seem to be fighting Palin as hard as the liberals & the media.  Alas....

Submitted by cajun2 on Sat, 01/15/2011 - 8:57pm.

Liberals have been redefining our language since the 60's. Independance and accomplishments are demonized, entitlements and dependency is "compassion". Abortion is a "choice" not eugenics.   Honesty and transparency is "vitriol". Faith and trust in the Constitution has become ignorance, bigoted and irrelevant.  Demanding adherence to the Legislative process is called "gridlock". The Reps. are labeled the party of NO yet the democrats have been in power 44 of the last 56 years.

Sarah Palin never learned to lie there like a whipped puppy while the left in general and the media in particular attack her. After all, that tactic was co successful for Bush43. Sarc.

Yet the Bushies on FNC attack her for fighting back. Apparently they learned nothing from the Bush presidency.

Who needs help with being informed?

Submitted by KC Mulville on Sat, 01/15/2011 - 5:17pm.

They said that Sarah Palin wasn't "informed" because (they claimed) she didn't follow the media. Well, with results like this, why should she? Looks like she knows more about what's going on than they do.

I recall they tried to argue that Dubya was uninformed because he didn't follow the media. That always struck me as hilarious. The President receives the PDB every morning, and he gets reports from all over the world, not to mention constant analysis from some of the top experts  in the world. The president is the most-informed person on earth, it's just not through the media. He famously said that if he wanted to know what Condi Rice was thinking, he didn't need a newspaper to find out; he could just shout down the hall, and she'd be in his office within seconds.

The media demands the right to decide what everyone else should think, and they demand the right to control all information. No. The last thing we want is to allow the Jack Caffertys and the Joe Scarboroughs and the Katie Courics to control anything, never mind important national information.

KC Mulville posted (about "W") "The President receives the PDB every morning, ... reports from all over the world, ... constant analysis from ... top experts... The president is the most-informed person on earth, it's just not through the media."

Are we sure duhOne attends the daily PDB? Maybe he sends Rahmes and Axelrude to the PDB so he won't to have to miss tea and cookies with Weggie Love. After all, he left Billy Clinton to run a President's Press Conference on weigty matters while he went to have cookies at a Holiday Party with Moochelle.

I would think that if The President is "the most-informed person on earth" then he might have been informed that his coat was cross-buttoned  and many other goofs.

NPR

Submitted by JoeBob on Sat, 01/15/2011 - 6:39pm.

This is news to Robert Siegel, E. J. Dionne, and David Brooks.  Friday's All Things Considered "Week in Politics" review had this insightful analysis (Bolds mine):

"SIEGEL: Speaking of that, it appears at this moment, that President Obama is more popular than he was a week ago, and that Sarah Palin, less so. Do you think there will be lasting consequences for those two political figures, David?

Mr. BROOKS: Well, I think for Sarah Palin there will be. Sarah Palin, to her credit, she was falsely blamed by a lot of people for what happened, for at least contributing. So I understand her point of view. To react as she did was so tonally off from where the country was - a country that wanted to come together and wanted that sense of leadership.

She does not have a political strategy. She has a media strategy. And the way conservatives develop their media strategy is to offend liberals. And what she does is she continually picks phrases and things that will offend a lot of people in the country. And this is the way she rallies conservatives to her side. And it works as a media strategy. As a political strategy, I think even a lot of conservatives say we may sort of like her, but she's not ready to be president and I'm afraid she showed that again this week.

Mr. DIONNE: She faces a basic choice: Does she want to be a presidential candidate or does she want to occupy a niche market? And I think that her response to this was someone who wants to occupy a niche market. Conservatives react just as David said they do. It was such an enormous missed opportunity for her because it's worth remembering that the whole issue of the sort of gun sights on Sarah Palin's website really got into play because Gabrielle Giffords herself mentioned them in a March interview.

And she could have, without ever admitting any guilt for anything - and I don't think anybody was directly accusing her - but she could have said, look, this bothered Giffords. I understand that. Of course I didn't mean it in any of the ways other people might have said I did. But I pulled them down from my website.

The fact she pulled them down from her website suggests that she understood this at some level. She should've just said it. And I think she would've been so much better off."

The more I listen to the media on this, the closer I get to a knee-jerk lever-pulling reaction if Sarah decides to run.  Anybody that gets this kind of junk from such from such a collection of knee-biting, ankle-kicking collection of jerks can't be bad.

Without recognizing the ordinances of Heaven, it is impossible to be a superior man. - Confucious

Leftists don't get it!

Submitted by Emil on Sat, 01/15/2011 - 7:56pm.

I believe the more the LIB/DEMs rant against Palin the more populat she becomes. In the current political climate where the Dems have become so toxic among many Americans, when they hammer Sarah, it bolsters the peoples feelings that she must be a positive force. The Dems have come to represent many things Americans are unhappy about. The more Dems try to destroy Sarah, the more popular she becomes. As Obiwan said to Vader. "strike me down and I will become more powerful then you can imagine", or words to that effect!

Indeed.  Leftists constantly show that they don't really get politics.  If they simply shut up and ignored Palin, she'd probably go away.  After all, to not be talked about in politics is death in politics.

I can see a situation where, IF she decides to run, people vote for her for no other reason than to "flip the bird" to the establishment and the media (due largely to the fact that the Left will not shut up about how evil Palin allegedly is).  Sound crazy?  Maybe.  But then, twice in my lifetime, we have had presidents elected because of their SMILES...

Which was the real reason the media wanted to trash her.

Submitted by Phryj1 on Sat, 01/15/2011 - 11:32pm.

All the left-wing talking heads and celebrities that went after her response -that she wouldn't have even made if they hadn't IMMEDIATELY POINTED THEIR FINGERS AT HER IN THE FIRST PLACE- were basically trying to tell everybody what they should be thinking about Palin's statement. They were afraid that people would view Palin in a more positive light, and didn't want to risk Americans starting to take her side in the whole "Let's blame Sarah Palin" game. Thankfully, the left's tactics seem to have backfired. No doubt, a few Palin hating leftists will ratchet up their rhetoric as a result, and will probably even start bashing any Americans who support her as well.

You know what would be absolutely hilarious? If, in the end, it turns out that the left's relentless thrashing of Palin ends up putting her in the White House in 2012. I would love to see that!

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

I wonder?

Submitted by Cyborg 0427 on Sun, 01/16/2011 - 10:46am.

What have I missed? The liberal media has stopped at nothing to demonize Palin and I wonder why. What is so good about her that that I haven't noticed? I have to wonder about this because the more they hate her the more I have to wonder why liberals feel so threatened by her. I have thought she would be best suited to chair the RNC, but I never considered voting for her as president. maybe I should rethink this.

You can lead a liberal to logic but you can't make them think.
