Morning Joe: Palin's AZ Response 'Probably Ended Her Political Career'

By Mark Finkelstein | January 14, 2011 | 08:59

A  A

Joe Scarborough did invite folks to "rub it in my face if I'm wrong," and there will surely be many who would like nothing better than to oblige him  . . .

Today's Morning Joe saw considerable consensus around the view that Sarah Palin's response to the Arizona shootings "probably ended her political career."

Donny Deutsch was first to float the notion.  Joe Scarborough embraced and elaborated on the idea, and Jon Meacham briefly signaled his assent.

View video after the jump.

So, was this fair political analysis, or just another example of MSM conventional wisdom ganging up on someone they love to hate?  Sarah Palin's "blood libel" is a career ender, but Barack Obama's 20-year embrace of Jeremiah 'G.D America' Wright was manifestly not?

DONNY DEUTSCH: I think as we've seen Sarah Palin probably ended her political career. And I don't mean to overstate it with her reaction, because she showed the flip-side of the reaction --

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I don't think you're overstating it at all.  I really don't. I think, all of us, Pat Buchanan was talking yesterday about how we understood the anger that Sarah Palin might feel for being unjustly accused minutes after the shooting of causing that, the shootings. But, Jon Meacham, the response by Sarah Palin, on the day that they were going to remember a nine-year old little girl that got killed and several senior citizens, and of course a congresswoman who was clinging for her life, to make it all about her, and to stir the pot up additionally with a very loaded phrase--that others have used--but others weren't considering running for President of these United States.  Got to say, I really do believe, it's not an overstatement to say this probably ended Sarah Palin's political career. I would be stunned--and save this tape, save this tape and rub it in my face if I'm wrong--would be stunned to ever see Sarah Palin elected to another political office.

JON MEACHAM: I suspect you're right.

I know that you were joking but in all reality the Cartoon Network has more viewers than MESSNBC.

Cartoon Network- 500,000- 700,000 depending on time of day

Joe Smoe at his best 311,000. He beats CNN by about 40,000 viewers.

Let me add this. Total viewers for the day TOON-7th overall, MESNBC not in the top 30.

Primetime TOON-13 MESSNBC-26th

Should be interesting to see

Submitted by Hunter12 on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 12:16pm.

Should be interesting to see what Comcast does with these shows and the network as a whole when they purchase NBC.  GE could afford to loose money supporting all the liberal crackpot initiatives that were espoused on their broadcast networks because they were making financial hay in other arms of the corporation as payback for that support.  Look at the billions GE Capital got out of the TARP or similar funds.  Look at all the money GE's made from their support of green schemes.  I don't think Comcast has such diversification.  They make their money off of viewership.  We may see more of a Fox model very soon.

NBC makes money off their cable networks. They make money on Sunday Night Football but the rest of their primetime line up is crap. If Comcast is only in the business of making money from TV they'll have to dump MESSNBC.

Once saw an interview with Ermey where he talked about that roll. He said the way he created that character was to take himself and every other DI he ever knew, combine elements and multiply by ten. And yes he mentioned that many Marines coming back from Vietnam thanked him for being such a tough SOB. He also mentioned reading Stars and Stripes every day to see if any of the kids he trained were in the obituaries.

My favorite politician of all time, Jesse Helms, spent his career telling the truth and never lost an election.  Of course everyone in his own party, as well as the other party, would predict every election that he could never win because he pissed off too many voters.

Funny thing is he never lost!  Guess voters ain't as stoopid as they think we are.

M'eh - Palin may or may not run.  But it would be worth it to have her try, if for no other reason than to see people like the jerks on BSNBC howling, frothing and twisting in rage.

I can picture Cafferty, Mahar, Matthews, Olberdork and all the rest of them collapsing on their floors, pounding the carpet with their fists and kicking while screeching in their bile and their hate as they hear the announcement of a Palin candidacy.

Maybe if the left didn't live off hate and lies they could cope.  Will they see the light and repent of their bigotry, their sexism and their violent natures?  Their god, Obama issued his command from Mt. Olympus to 'chill'.

Will the liberals obey their god's more recent command?  Or wil they ignore the fact that their god contradicts himself, and go with his older commandments to 'argue and get in everyone's face' and to 'bring guns'?

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Submitted by stratman on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 1:31pm.

Scarborough's career self-destructed before the staffer died.

Shmoe is a bonafide card-carrying QUITTER - he quit just five months into his fourth term as Congressman stating he wanted to spend more time with his children.  Rumors swirled Joe was cheating on his wife.

A couple months later a young, attractive staffer died in Joe's office.  The coroner was incompetent and has had numerous licensure issues stemming from his malpractice.  The cause of death of the staffer IMO remains suspect due to the documented incompetence of the coroner.

As to Joe's marriage, his wife divorced him.  Maybe those weren't just rumors.

So, yeah, Joe knows about dead people, quitting, and being an all-around bombastic pontificating ahole.

Submitted by RightRealDeal on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 11:24am.

"Morning Joe" would not have a career himself if it wasn't for MSLSD.     Joe like the others are afraid of Palin because she tells it like it is and that offends the mamby pamby left.

Joe, please run for office, I can't wait to watch that one!  AND, oh by the way, stop calling yourself a Republican, you are nothing remotely close to that.

It probably ended her career....

Submitted by tomchris on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 11:27am.

...but we'll STILL go on trashing her 24/7.  Meanwhile, according to the left,  Sarah Palin's career has ended so many time I've lost count.  Case in point:

Her "disasterous" Coric/Gibson interviews.

Her "disasterous" use of expensive clothing.

Her "disasterous" diva like behavior according to "inside sources."

Her "disasterous" ethics violations in the State of Alaska,

Her "disasterous," dare I mention it, use of crib notes on the palm of her hand.

And, of course, the ultimate  "disaster"....her decision to step down as Governor.  Now she'll never be President.  At least, once she finishes her TWO bestselling books.

All of these keenly asture observations have ultimately culminated into one thing- DISATEROUS ratings for MSNBC.

Great perspective,

Submitted by stratman on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 1:51pm.

Great perspective, tomchris!

I imagine in Liberal nightmares, Palin is the Hydra - for every head they cut off, two more grow back in its place.

(am I still allowed to say "cut-off"?)

I'd rather liken her to an exquisite tigress with 9+ lives.  The media will never get the better of Palin.  Never.  And it kills them.

(oops!  am I allowed to say that?)

Perhaps a rename of Morning Joe

Submitted by zachlind on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 11:39am.

Perhaps a rename and new slogan for Morning Joe may be in order.

How about;

Morning Bigot and his Sidekick Lump?
We Hate Palin more than Republicans.

Now, that’s not too bad, if I do say so myself.

It's great! They (limo-liberal media) are so afraid of Sarah.

Stay afraid!  If she does anything or nothing at all, they attack her.

Thanks media for keeping her in the public eye.  Thanks for keeping

Sarah current!  Attacking Palin only helps her!  I love it!

I’ll know when Sarah Palin is

Submitted by Reaver on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 11:41am.

I’ll know when Sarah Palin is unelectable. When everyone in the media stops talking about her and moves on to attacking the next republican.

Actually, when they start

Submitted by Hunter12 on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 12:25pm.

Actually, when they start touting her as the candidate conservatives should back as their Presidential candidate, we'll know they think they can beat her.  Right now, the screams and outcries are so strident against her, they must know they're in trouble in 2012.

That was my thought

Submitted by Master-of-Disaster on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 1:50pm.

Since Joe was signaling the death noll of the Palin for President movement I was wondering who the libs at MSNBC were going to tell me to vote for?  How can I make up my own mind concerning the candidate I want to represent me without these empty heads telling me...oh what will I do?  Who will help me decide?  Please will you help me and let me know who to vote for as a conservative? I always listen blindly (is that an oxymoron?) to what people I have nothing in common with, do not espouse my beliefs, denegrate my personal views, insult my beliefs at every turn, lambast the people I do identify with, try to stiffle the expression of my views, stand for everything I despise as an American and then have the audacity to tell me who I should support and vote for.  Hmmmmm I think I heard the ghost of the McCain campaign just whistle by the graveyard!

The Left is Terrified of this woman

Submitted by boscokraft on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 11:56am.

I sincerely hope that Americans can see that it is the liberal elite media who is attempting to capitalize on this tragedy.   Dan Balz in his Washington Post article states the Sarah Palin "brought division" by her video comments released this week.  In the article he comments about past presidents who made moving speeches following different tragic events in our history (George Bush after 9/11, Bill Clinton after Oklahoma City etc).  He implies that their popularity improved after those speeches and improved their standing as Presidents.  He is hoping that Obama can use this same tactic here.  The left media will smear Sarah Palin, and Obama can stand above the sewer pond and unite us.  It is the left that uses the horrible deaths of these people as a political tactic, not the right.  I just hope everyone is clear about what is going on here.  God Bless Sarah Palin and her family.

Blue Kryptonite to Bizarro

Submitted by falcon on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 12:12pm.

Sarah Palin is like blue Kryptonite to the Bizarro Superman. And, like Bizarro, the left just can't stay away from it, even though it will mean their eventual destruction.

Why are they so afraid of Gov. Palin? What is it about her that ties the left up in knots every time they see/hear/read her?

These people are totally deranged. They're frothing at the mouth like a Pavlovian dog every time any mention of her is made.

And even some on the right fuel the flames when they claim she is "unelectable" (or, like Ted Nugent, "love" her but "can't vote for her").

THAT means there's something of substance there - something that can totally and effectively disarm the left. And they're afraid of it.

What, exactly, is "it?" Let's all find out on Nov. 6, 2012, shall we?

Having listened to "Morning Joe" upon occasion, Joe Scarborough is proving that he is not a Conservative. The Left needs to face the fact that they are filled with more vitriol than the Right. It appears that they cannot listen to the sage advice of  their own leader.

As far as MSNBC, they continue to make themselves increasingly irrelevant with their biased reporting.

Scarborough derangement

Submitted by LarryG on Fri, 01/14/2011 - 2:24pm.

All liberals should be dragged kicking and screaming to Glenn Beck's site and be made to look into the article on a man named Edward Bernays. I saw it and learned a lot about what I already recognized  in humans. All of the this whacky knee-jerk reaction situation can be attributed to ignorance manipulated by the likes of Edward Bernays and Saul Alinsky, lefty favorites along with Van Jones, Anita Dunn, Cass Sunstein and of course George Soros.
