Michael Moore Schooled On 'Real Time': Anti-Obama Sentiment Isn't Racist
Schlockumentary filmmaker Michael Moore on Friday's "Real Time" got a much-needed education about how absurd it is to claim "white America does not like having a black president."
CNN's Jessica Yellin also taught Moore a thing or two about voter turnout during midterm elections (video follows with transcript and commentary):
MICHAEL MOORE: The other part of this though is that white America does not like having a black president. That's just the sad truth.
BILL MAHER, HOST: That is the truth.
JESSICA YELLIN, CNN: His approval rating was 76 percent after his inauguration?
MOORE: No…
YELLIN: The day after the inauguration.
I'm not sure about the day after, but CNN's own polling gave Obama a 78 percent favorability rating right before the inauguration. Beyond this, 43 percent of white people voted for the junior senator from Illinois in 2008.
As such, claiming "white America does not like having a black president" is just preposterous.
But that wasn't the only thing Yellin schooled Moore about on Friday evening:
MOORE: The statistics don’t lie. I’m not talking about polls. I’m talking about that the young people in ’08 was the only, did you know this, it's the only demographic, white demographic that Obama won, 18 to 29-year-olds.
MAHER: Right.
MOORE: Every other demographic, over 29, Obama lost the white vote. Every single one. That's how huge the young people's vote was because that's what put him over. And then he completely ignored them and forgot about them and then started texting them like a month before the election, please come out and…
YELLIN: The young vote, it is true that the youth vote was depressed this time compared to the election, but it was the same rate as every midterm election since polling began. So the rate at which young people voted was sort of static. It's sort of consistent with what we’ve seen before. Obama didn’t get them out, but it wasn’t worse than in past midterms.
Indeed. Even the ultra-liberal website Fire Dog Lake came to the same conclusion:
Youth turnout was comparable to recent midterm years and remarkably stable. Youth didn’t vote more or less than they did, roughly speaking, than in other midterms.
Apparently, the supposedly brilliant Mr. Moore doesn't understand that turnout in presidential elections is always higher than midterms, and that young people in particular are always less energized for these events.
On the other hand, it sure was surprising seeing a liberal CNNer correct the high and mighty Moore not once but twice.
Brava, Jessica. Brava.
*****Update: NBer metaphorsbwithu apprised me on Twitter that Obama got more white votes in 2008 than Kerry did in 2004. According to the 2004 exit polls, Kerry got 41 percent of the white vote as compared to Obama's 43 percent.

The definition of insanity...

The supposedly brilliant Michael Moore doesn't understand a lot of things; in particular, the race card has been played out and no matter how many times another lefty suggests that Obama's failures are somehow a result of a racist America, it will not make it true.
Beyond that, however, even if Mighty Mouth was right, and America is by and large a community of racists, that would have zero bearing on the fact that Obama still cannot conceive of a plan to end the economic recession in this country, nor can he understand why his "souring rhetoric" hasn't brought about world cooperation and acceptance of his views.
Obama is a failure precisely because he is nothing more than a consumate politician; a man with no appreciable experience in anything other than a classroom; and a man who has consistently overestimated his political star power both here, and abroad. Obama is a failure because the White House is not located in the Harvard Law buillding. He is a failure because the fantastical lessons in economics taught in colleges all over this country are unsustainable in the world of real money and real consequences.
His race is entirely immaterial to these truths.
If libs don't vote for Col. allen West in 2012 they'll be racist

I don't have a problem with a black president, I have a problem with an America hating commie lovin' jihadi embracing crackpot president!
My candidate of choice to become President in 2012 is Congressman-elect Col. Allen West, his color has nothing to do with anything, I like him because he's a no-nonsense fearless American hero who won't be afraid to do what's right for this country.
Will we get to scream rrrrraaaaaaacccciiiiissssttttt at the libs if they don't support him? Not that it matters, but he is actually blacker than Obama!

Speak for your own racism, Michael Moore
Submitted by needle on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 5:11pm.
The most racist aspect of the American public, based upon 2008 and 2010 voting patterns, is the Black community.
As far as the rest voting public is concerned, they voted according to their politics -- not race -- that is according to what they thought of Obama's policies, promises, credentials and experience. What was, and continues to be, obnoxious to the point of being toxic is Michael Moore's (and that of many people like him) flippant accusations of racism directed at anybody (except Black people, of course) who did not or does not support Obama. The possibility that someone might not approve of Obama’s politics is racist in Moore’s mind.
There is a racist in this discussion. It is Michael Moore.

It's true that whites over 29 didn't go for Obama, but not by much. As I recall, it was only a margin of a few percentage points. Obama basically split the white vote. Blacks, on the other hand, voted over 90% for Obama.
So who's more racist? The 90% who voted en bloc for Obama, or whites over 29, who basically split?
Figures don't lie, but liars figure, don't they?

entertainment, or say, judiciary (ie Clarence Thomas nationally, or Alan Page of the MN Supreme Court just again won HUGE) are indeed African-American, yet amazingly in the minds of mushbrains like Maher or Moore, it is skin color --not ineptness-- that lead people to reject President Obama. Really, the Mahers/Moores of the world arent just stupid, they really are simply pathetic..........Why do this goofballs think the citizenry would embrace a guy who has added over 3 trillion in new debt in 22 months? Let me guess--maher and moore have past argued that people dont like Madoff because he is Jewish, right?

Racism had nothing to do with
Submitted by juslen on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 5:42pm.
Racism had nothing to do with Democratic losses for the simple fact that very few minorities ran for or defended Democratic seats. Young people came out to vote for Obama because they thought he was new, different.. they actually believed in the "hope and change" then he gets elected and they realize he is more of the same. So strike out foolish views on racism and Micheal Moore did make a valid point. He ignored the youth voter, but not in the way in which he thinks. Young people are the more vunlerable in recessions like this. Many are in college and cant jobs to pay their bills, others have graduated and can't find jobs to fit their college degree and other young people who have been in the job market working for a few years have very little job security due to lack of experience. So Obama and Democrats continue to lose over ECONOMIC issues. They claim its health care, they claim Republicans are racist.. but the simpe fact is, Republicans seem like the better economic option. We will soon see if they are correct.

obvious racists in this story, and both their last names start with M. It is quite telling that these two CANNOT imagine any explanation for white people's behavior other than race. Being that they are both white, they have revealed the one thing they know: they themselves believe Obysmal to be inferior BECAUSE he is black, and are shamefully paddling hard to present themselves as sinless.
Liars, hypocrites, and racists, both of them.
Not to mention weapons-grade stupid.

I really wonder if Moore has any talent outside of directing and lying. He reminds me of an idiot savant, that is exceptionally skilled in one thing, but outside of that narrow field, knows nothing. Moore, just stop embarassing yourself and get back to hanging around your Hollyweird friends that don't ever confront you with life outside of the bubble.

Every other demographic other than the "young" vote, voted for McCain.
Uhh, 100% to 0%?........90% to 10%?...........80% to 20%?..........55%-45%? Tell us Michael.
Then tell us about this poll......
As of today, Obama has 42% overall approval. But 88% approval amongst black people. Has anyone in the media discussed that 88% (and up to 95% only two weeks ago) at all during the Obama presidency? Maybe, but you'd be hard pressed to locate it.

Those darn racist white people... errr Republicans. Three black Republicans won their elections and were added to the long list of black Republicans already serving in elected positions in multiple states at various levels of government. Newly elected to Congress are Tim Scott in South Carolina and Allen West in Florida. Also in Florida, Jennifer Carroll became that state's lieutenant governor, the first black woman Republican ever elected to this position.
Let's not forget those racist Republicans elected Latino Marco Rubio to the US Senate and Latina Susana Martinez as Governor of New Mexico.
And the liberal establishment

And the liberal establishment is beside themselves about these elected people. Liberals think they're supposed to "own" any non-white people. Isn't it interesting that they think all non-white people are just born to be liberal and Democrat lovers no matter what Democrats do or think about them.

So, let me get this straight. To prove to disingenuous slobs and pretentious ex-comedians that I am not a racist, I must vote for any person of color as long as they are liberal - even if their positions are diametrically opposed to my politcal beliefs - and I must continue to support them no matter what they say or do - no matter how bad? Ain't gonna happen - I'll just have to somehow struggle through life being thought a "racist" by these silly nincompoops.
Of course if you didn't vote

Of course if you didn't vote for Obama in 08 it's because you are a racist. no one could possibly vote for some one based entirely on thier ability to run a country. we should all vote based on the colour of the candidates skin for Micheal Moore's sake.
Wait a moment, wouldn't that be racist?

Oh, yeah. Musta been right about the time it hit me that BHO is the living, breathing embodiment of the Peter Principle.
