Bill Maher: 'America's Like A Dog - You Can't Actually Explain Issues To It'

By Noel Sheppard | November 13, 2010 | 14:48

Noel Sheppard's picture

HBO's Bill Maher is clearly still reeling from the Democrat disaster in the midterm elections.

On Friday's "Real Time," the host compared America to a dog that "cannot understand actual words," only "understands fear," and can't have issues explained to it (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BILL MAHER, HOST: Well, that idea that America will see, America doesn't pay attention or see. You have to -- America’s like a dog. I'm sorry, but it is. You, it cannot understand actual words. It understands inflection. It understands fear. But you can't actually explain issues to a dog.

It's amazing to watch how liberal media members think, isn't it?

When Americans voted into the White House an unqualified, inexperienced junior senator from Illinois largely because they fell in love with the idea of the country finally having a black president, the citizenry was brilliant.

But when they voted out of office members of Congress because the unemployment rate is near ten percent and they're worried about their futures as well as the direction of the country, Americans are idiots.

As for as Maher is concerned, people are only smart if they behave exactly like him.

Didn't ol' Donkeyface say something similiar to this recently - cutting down the USA AND dogs at the same time??? Obviously, he doesn't know too much about dogs, because they are intuitive, sharp, loyal, brave, and can have a whole lot of other good characteristics.

I don't have any dogs now, but I can tell you that everyone I've ever had would think that Maher is either a fire hydrant, a tree, or some place to leave a nice steamy pile of doggie poop!!!

And..........if this is how he feels about dogs, I hope he doesn't have one.................somebody call PETA!!!!!

Submitted by 76United on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 3:16pm.

I wish I was on this show when he basically said Americans are dumb. I would've shot back immediately, "Aren't you an American?". Of course Bill Maher will say that he's not one of those "dumb" americans. No, no, he's one of the super rare enlightened americans.

Maher's statement is the type of generalization that liberals like him detest. Don't say muslims caused 9/11. You must say it was "radical" muslims. So next time Maher must say that "dumb" americans are dumb, not just americans.

excellent point.

Submitted by puredmashie on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 3:28pm.

this is a fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives.  liberals believe that americans aren't smart enough to make up their own minds on something and, since they are so much smarter and only mean well, can do it for us.  conservatives believe that americans can make up their own minds and don't need the nanny state as a crutch.

of course when liberals' ideas and philosophy are exposed for what they are americans reject them, as was done this past november.

swing hard in case you hit it.

I feel sorry for Maher.

Submitted by 26CX on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 3:26pm.

I really do.  He's a bitter person who obviously doesn't experience any real happiness in his life.  He must know how wrong his opinions are and that he is becoming more and more isolated from the majority of Americans, but he continues to stick to his losing propositions and alienate more and more people.  He's watching his world crumble around him and, like a 5-year-old caught in a lie but not wanting to admit it, continues to stick to his erroneous beliefs.

Soon even his "friends" will realize that he is a poisonous person who will only drag them down with him or insult them when they won't follow along and will leave Maher alone with his misery.

But on the other hand, I think he deserves everything that happens to him.

Now my dog has been insulted!

Submitted by Newsbubba on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 3:44pm.

That's it, Maher, you pile of dog shiite.  I just ignored most of the insults you hurled at the American people because, quite frankly, a majority of them voted for the rat bastard Fascist SOB now vacationing from the White House.  I am hard pressed to defend the collective intelligence of any group that would elect that clueless bastard.

But now you've done it, you little twerp.  You have insulted my dog!  Hell. you've insulted everybody's dogs. Comparing Bubba to the American voters, the majority of whom really are dumb asses, is over the line.

Dogs have way more intelligence that voters.  They would never allow the dumbest, weakest, wimpiest Zulu dog (as opposed to Alpha dog.  Don't go all 'racist" on me)  in the pack, married to the ugliest bitch in the pack to be their elected leader!

If we the people were as smart as dogs, Sarah Palin would already be the head bitch in this pack.  I don't see any Alpha males on the horizon who can match her for courage and killing instinct.

So unless you're willing to meet Bubba in a free-for-all, shut the hell up.  He and his kind don't deserve to be compared to the American morons who voted for Obambie.

I believe in human nature and we are basically lazy and until something affects us directly we dont give a rats ass.  We have outlets and people we tend to believe and some of these tell the truth and some do not.  Its not that we are dumb but are not motivated enough to take the enournous time and effort to ferret out the truth; and therefore tend to form trusted sources.

The elcestion went as it did because some peoples trusted sources turned out to be not so trustworthy and they looked for other sources .. ie FNC, the TEA party and even listened to the gasp enemy.

Submitted by rammingspeed on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 8:56pm.

I'm thinking that Maher has had some sort of breakdown, perhaps along the lines of Janine Garafolo, where he is now struggling with mental illness. This is not rational thinking. If his hatred runs this deep, to where he's viertually incoherent, he's become danger, at least to himself.

Maher states what the Dem elites think but won't say

Submitted by Galvanic on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 12:18pm.

Maher makes no secret of his disdain for Americans.    He's likely angry that the public hasn't responded to him like they respond to Jon Stewart.

Maher's view is exactly what the Dem elites actually think.  But instead of an open slap to the face, they prefer the subtle inference.

Consider the explanation for the unpopularity of their health care reform bill.   Because they still believe that Americans would embace it if they only understood its goodness, they claim that they needed to "communicate it better."  That's the polite way of saying, "The public is too stupid to know what's good for them."
