GOP Strategist Schools Matthews: Palin's Resumé Just As Strong As Obama's Was

For the second time in three weeks, a Republican strategist has taught MSNBC's Chris Matthews a lesson about how former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's qualifications for president are just as strong as Barack Obama's when he ran back in 2008.

This time the GOPer educating the "Hardball" host was Todd Harris (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Let`s go to Rudy, guys, because he always runs as a secular Republican. He would be the perfect sort of bete noir (ph) for this. So, let`s take a look at Rudy Giuliani, what he said today. He`s back in the money. I`m not sure what Rudy is doing these days, but he`s always talking around Republican nomination fights without being in one.
Let`s listen.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER NYC MAYOR: Let her run. If she`s as bad as you think, she will lose. If she can really -- if she can really make her case, she will -- she will win.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": So, do you think she actually has a case?

GIULIANI: Yes, sure she does.

GOLDBERG: I would like to know what it is.

GIULIANI: I don`t want to get you all, you know, down on me. But the reality is, she`s got a hell of a lot more qualifications than Barack Obama did when he ran for president.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Oh.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MATTHEWS: What do you think of that? Do you make that case, Todd, that hell of a lot better qualifications than President Obama when he ran for president two years ago?

TODD HARRIS, REPUBLICAN STRATEGIST: Look --

MATTHEWS: You accept that?

HARRIS: Regardless of what anyone thinks of Palin or Obama, if you`re just looking at her resume now and his resume when he started running, they`re not that dissimilar.

MATTHEWS: Yes, he wrote a book and she had showed no evidence of having read one. There is a difference in I.Q. here. I don`t mean an I.Q., but sort of knowledge. And knowledge is relevant, isn`t it Todd? Or is it irrelevant now?

Do the Republicans now contend that being an absolute know-nothing at some qualification for the presidency, if you can prove you don`t know anything, had never been to New York, have never read any magazines, at least not glossy ones, does that sort of automatically establish you as credible, is that the new standard?

HARRIS: Well, first of all, the question was about experience. It wasn`t about whether you`d been to New York or not. And I don`t think that the people who are frustrated with the direction of the country really care one way or the other whether a candidate, you know --

MATTHEWS: Has ever read anything.

HARRIS: -- has read the right books, you know, that people on the East Coast think --

MATTHEWS: You`re are playing this game, too.

STEVE MCMAHON, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST: Todd --

MATTHEWS: The right books, you are playing this same game. You are like -- never mind. This is the game. This is the French fries game George W. taught you guys, make fun of anybody that might know a second language, make fun of anybody that did well in school.

HARRIS: Hold on. No. No. That`s absurd.

MATTHEWS: Of course it s.

HARRIS: No, I`m not making fun of any of those people. What I`m saying is, on a question of experience, her resume and Barack Obama`s resume when he started running are not dissimilar.

MATTHEWS: Right.

HARRIS: So, you know, you can argue whether you think one is smarter than the other or one had written a book, one is not, but on the pure question of elected experience, you know, they are not that far apart.

MATTHEWS: You know, I just love this fact. Let`s get in the airplane with a guy that has never flown a plane. Let`s get in with a doctor that has never done an operation. Let`s go -- geez, the standards right now --

Wait a minute! I thought this was about intellectual capacity and not experience. Why the change, Mr. Matthews?

This flip-flop was even more hypocritical given how little actual experience Obama had when he tossed his named into the presidential ring in February 2007.

As for getting on an airplane with a guy that's never flown before, with unemployment skyrocketing under Obama's watch, and him just suffering one of the biggest midterm election defeats in history, it quite appears the junior senator from Illinois conned millions of Americans into believing he was a much-heralded fighter pilot. But I digress:

(CROSSTALK)

HARRIS: Chris, if the American people put such a premium on experience and John McCain would have beaten Barack Obama because he had a hell of a lot more governing experience than Obama did. There are -- there are things that are more important for the average voter.

MATTHEWS: Yes, except he flipped so many times, I didn`t know where he stood.

So which is it, Mr. Matthews? Is it IQ that counts, experience, or being consistent on the issues?

In the end, with folks like Matthews, it's all about the letter after a candidate's name for if it's an "R," the MSNBCer is always going to rationalize exactly why the Democrat is far more qualified.

"....make fun of anybody that might know a second language, make fun of anybody that did well in school."

Make fun of anybody elected Governor of Alaska, Tingles.......

He is getting so stale and I've seen this same conversation led by him 10-20 times.  And he gets the same answer every time.  BTW, one of the pleasures of last night was seeing Toomey win Pennsylvania on the "adult" news channel  and flipping to MSNBC to see it called there  - I know that is the one race Tingles wanted the most out of any of them, since he had once flirted that that would be his name announced.

but right now I think she's a long way from ready.

She's impressive, but I don't want to see this country  elect another president simply on the basis of charisma.  If she's serious about running, I hope she spends the next 18 months learning and absorbing everything she can about domestic and foreign affairs, and develops a clear policy strategy.

We can't afford another president whose platform is simply "hope and change" (in ANY form!)

Matthews is the quintessential liberal hypocrite:

I disagree with the Leghumper.............I think Palin was (and still is)  infinitly more qualified, in just about any area, than Boy Blunder. Barry was a mediocre vacant State Senator and a mediocre US Senator who spent basically his whole 'career' getting ready for, or running, for the Presidency. And I'm willing to bet that he was a crappy community organizer too, whatever the hell that is!!!

However, I agree with you about Palin.........at this point, I don't want her to be running - not that I don't like her or agree with her or whatever  - but the MSM and the libs still seem to be able to have enough influence over voters that don't do their homework that they will just ramp up their attacke on her, and create more mayhem, division, and misinformation. She seems to be their main target, because they are relentless and resentless in their hatred of her...........and, whether we like it or not, it rubs off on a lot of people. I've heard people say 'she's an idiot', or something similiar...........and when I ask them why - they can't really give me a reason, other than 'she's an idiot'!!! But.........we ARE up against that type of mentality.

You've got all these people - MSM included -  who are somehow 'discovering' what you and me and a LOT of others like us........knew prior to 2008!!! That's all I'm trying to get at with Palin. As far as the McCain Mutiny goes........yeah, forget it!!!!

You're absolutely right on that score.

And people who plan that many years ahead, to get there (Al Gore, call your office!), always arouse suspicion in me.   Hell, Obama even admits he joined a church to be more effective as a community organizer.

Palin, however, may be now laying some groundwork of her own.  Read this column by Pat Buchanan, which, BTW, he wrote way back in June of this year (these are primary battles he's talking about).

What's the Mama Grizzly Up To?

It would be interesting to check out how many of those who Palin endorsed in the primaries went on to win in the general.

Justin Quinn of USConservatives put it this way:

If just half of her endorsees earn victories in November, Palin will find herself with some powerful allies in Congress come 2012.

"..he wrote a book."  Yeah, he and his ghostwriter.  Sarah wrote two books.  Going Rogue and America By Heart.  So, just what the hell are you talking about, Thrill-boy?

"...ever having read one."  That's just typical libtard arrogance.  They said the same thing about Reagan, who wrote prolifically .* One thing she doesn't read much is a teleprompter.

"...know a second language."  Bush speaks Spanish.

"...never flown a plane..."  Obama never presided over a state - Palin did.

*Even the reviewer says "Ronald Reagan is a puzzle: How, many wonder, could he know so little and accomplish so much?"  This question exemplifies the arrogance and ignorance of the lefties who constantly disparage the intelligence of those against whom they have no intelligent arguments.

Boy Barry's IQ is 'off the charts'???? Who  knew??? What kind of charts.......the Farenhiet thermometer??? Third-grade multiplication charts??? Tell me!!! This guy has NEVER impressed me as having anything more than a mediocre intelligence, and very low common sense...................he's just a very thoroughly brainwashed puppet, trying to keep the facade and the scam going for as long as he (and his handlers) can. And his handlers have to cringe everytime he opens his dumb mouth without his trusty teleprompter, because then we get to see what a dope he really is!!!

I just read an article by a guy who supposedly went to Columbia with Boy Blunder. The article had some interesting stuff, but the guy states that Obama is 'brilliant, and know exactly what he's doing'. Well, I disagree with the first part - but I know a lot of words have been redefined lately, including 'brilliant' - but I'd have to say that the second part of the statement is probably true, to a point, excpet that it wasn't Boy Barry who came up with the information or strategy to do 'know exactly what he's doing'............

"...never flown a plane..."  Obama never presided over a state - Palin did.     McCain flew jets.     Tingles constantly shifts the premise because his argument fails when examined.  Rapidly changing premises keeps his antagonist playing catch-up and gives the false patina of authoritative fact to his BS.     Tingles is skilled in deflection and putting his interviewee off balance.  You have to stay on one subject at a time despite Chrissie's shifting sands and get him to acknowledge his errors, or at least get your point across.  Don't let Matthews make charges and not answer them on your terms.  Redirect Matthews back to the first unanswered accusation until you have stated your case.  The Republican in this interview did a decent job.

Because he reads ?  So Matthews wants to claim that college grad Palin never read anything.  What an idiot.

Palin was a sitting governor but somehow Matthews wants to overlook that.   Obama was just a state rep who was a senator for five months before he ran.  Also Palin wrote a book that people actually bought and read. Has Obama ever written a best seller....?   She will flatten Obama if she runs and Matthews knows it.

I believe Matthews and others in the MSM and Democrat Party fear Palin and that's why they are following the Saul Alinsky playbook and attempting to demonize her at every turn. I also believe that a good majority of those same libs feel that Hillary Clinton will be the Democrat candidate for POTUS in 2012 not Obama. But those libs won't publicly state that yet.

When will the left stop insisting that they are the smartest in the room and actually make some attempt to prove it?

Abe Lincoln. Both democrats and republicans love to claim him. He is considered a great leader right? His education was a few months in a 1-teacher school. How damn hard is it really? You only need to be a super brain if you are trying to pass off BS to the American people and keep them from catching on. I don't know if anyone noticed, but Obama couldn't do it. So super brain he is not. I get so tired of these brain dead pundits who have tons of video of their own gaffs suddenly getting on their perch and deciding who has a brain and who doesn't. The real super brains are smart enough not to enter politics or to even go on Thrill's show. They are in the private sector. The Tea Party has enough brain power to understand that. They want the Freudian projectionists in the MSM and the left wing moonbats to stop crippling the economy by pretending they are the ones with the answers and the lock on brain power. Two years out in the sunlight where they can't hide behind a president of the other party prove they don't know their head from their ass.

And while I'm on a little bit of a rant, I'm also tired of people using their caricature of Fox as an excuse for MSNBC to behave as polar opposites of that caricature. In a way they are saying they understand that MSNBC is a mess but it's a mess for a good cause in their view? It's like a democrat running as the opposite of Palin by being the opposite of Tina Fey. I don't think it would work. Maybe MSNBC needs to give Fox and their viewers some small amount of credit before they try to think of a way to compete. MessNBC is so over the top now that it beats the Daily Show for comedy. Don't get me wrong, I don't want them to change. It's comedy gold.

All we Know about about South Side Scheister is that he went to Harvard. We don't know his grades, heck, he could have been the janitor there for four years! In the Illinois state senate, they used to send him to get coffee for the Democrat Party bosses. He's full of more bull than Palin though!

What's your evidence, Thriller?  The vast majority of the American public knows you're just a preening dolt with a substandard IQ.  Yes, I meant IQ.

BTW, don't let MO catch you tryin' to move in on her "man".   She'd make both of you look like the pansies you are.

I've never seen the media

Submitted by Thoreau on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 8:21am.

I've never seen the media insult somebody so bad that wasn't even running for or in political office.  She's like the MSM kryptonite.  A healthy woman that has a family with special needs and works for a living.

Not to get all socialist on you, I'm just saying a foreign born communist spawn of islam versus a mother working her ass off for her kids, one with down's syndrome, is like night and day.

And secondly, being a Governor of a State is the highest office in the "United States of America".  Assuming you understand the States created the Federal Government.  If Obama actually ran a State rather than voted present to 2 years, then this would be a competition.  But it ain't.  Palin has more experience hands down.  Bush had more experience hands down.  That's just a fact.

America is not and never will be like Barry Hussein Soetoro.  He's everything this Country is fighting against.

Wow! Matthews actually said,

Submitted by Beukeboom on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 8:20am.

Wow! Matthews actually said, "Yes, he wrote a book and she had showed no evidence of having read one."

[Which his smear against Palin is absolutely false. BTW, the word is Obama's book was actually ghost written.]

And then moments later Matthews opined, "This is the French fries game George W. taught you guys, make fun of anybody that might know a second language, make fun of anybody that did well in school."

Matthews has no business lecturing others of making fun of people when he just did it moments earlier.

What a douchebag.

And I don't use that term often or lightly.

Matthews, like most political and media libs, fears Palin.

First, I'll have to check

Submitted by Smartypants on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 8:51am.

First, I'll have to check back on my high school civics text book, because I do not recall a trip to New York being required to run for the presidency.  Heck, nowadays I'd say having never been there is a strong qualificiation.

Second, I saw most of GW Bush's speeches and press conferences, as well as his sit down interviews.  I do not remember him ever encouraging anybody to "make fun of anybody that might know a second language..." or that "did well in school".  This is obviously something that exists only in the minds of drones like Matthews.

Third, and most important, why are Governor Palins' qualifications for the presidency so important right now, on the heels of an astounding loss by Obama and his party?  Is this topic even relevant for a supposed news talk show?  Palin isn't running and hasn't run for anything since 2008 and Barack Obama's agenda has just been rejected wholeheartedly by the American public, other than in the most liberal enclaves in the country.  Perhaps Chrissy is feeling a little insecure with who he picked as his prom date.

Third, and most important, why are Governor Palins' qualifications for the presidency so important right now, on the heels of an astounding loss by Obama and his party?

Simple. They are already looking ahead to the 2012 POTUS election and are ramping up their attacks on all conservatives whom they feel may have a chance for the Republican nomination. Palin just is currently at the top of their Saul Alinsky demonization hit list.

For as long as I've been

Submitted by Smartypants on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 10:12am.

For as long as I've been alive and paying attention, Republican candidates for office are regularly questioned as to their qualifications by the media.  This goes back to Reagan, GHW Bush, GW Bush, etc.  Democrats are very rarely questioned as to their qualifications.  If you have a "D" after your name, you are qualified to hold office at any level.  I cannot recall the last time any Democrat candidate for the presidency was dinged for being unqualified (or even underqualified) for the job.

The 2008 election cycle was absurd.  We had the candidate for president on the Democrats ticket with barely a couple of years of national political experience and a background that was full of relationships with some shady characters, and there was never a question made as to his qualificaitions for the job.  We had a VICE-PRESIDENTIAL candidate on the Republican side who had held an executive office for years, and with pretty good results, and it was that person whose background and experience was put under a microscope.

Can liberals be any more

Submitted by humanzee on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 10:55am.

Can liberals be any more shallow?  Obama is casted to be president by powerful entities just like a pop singer for a boy band..  Having a book ghost-written is now a qualification to be president?

Reading left slanting magazines like Time and Newsweek is a requirement?

Being able to regurgitate the ideas of long dead liberals and socialists a requirement to be president?

Why isn't math a requirement to be president?  Why do we put people without math backgrounds in charge of balancing the budget or fixing the economy.  Instead we have people who majored in basket weaving and then went into law because they aced their basket weaving tests.  They the hire people they can't understand and we're stuck with economists and accountants running numbers through the liberal logic of a politicians mind or sucking up to their idiot boss and cooking the books.

What about critical thinking skills?  Why not elect people with backgrounds in problem solving?

Obama is a trained LAWYER.  He wasn't training in a job relating to solving problems.  It's job the specializes is shifting BLAME somewhere else.  They are the type of people you hire when you did something wrong and don't want to go to prison.

Hot damn, Matthews reminds me why I sometimes hate people like him.  It's the pettiness, the shallowness.  Gotta wear the right clothes, listen to the right music, own the right gadgets, hang out with the right people or you're a LOSER!  It's allow about the facade.

what a buffon. matthews can't help but interject his own CONSTANT and biased slander when it comes to Palin and she's not even running for anything. he may ask a semi-legitimate question but then follows up with an insult.  hard to believe he, maddow and those other "progressives" were on an msnbc  panel to "monitor" the elections. that's like having Iran head a panel for judeo-christian tolerance.

Correct me if I'm wrong but

Submitted by hbnolikeee on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 11:57am.

Isn't the President's job to manage the nation's projects?

If so,  the best manager I ever had was a man that had zero experience in the area he managed.

What he did was to put the correct people in charge of the project and backed them 100%.

He never threw anyone under the bus when some aspect of the project failed or was delivered late.

A great manager knows what is required to reach the goal(s) of the project and who is not so arrogant that he cannot hear the voices of his customers (the citizens of the country in our case).

Chris Matthews: Liberal Arrogance

Submitted by boscokraft on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 2:55pm.

Im surprised that Republicans havent devised a response to this elitist arrogance.  You shouldnt be President unless you've been to New York City?  You shouldnt be President unless you've read books approved by Chris Matthews?

How about this:  Chris, Character is relevent to the American people.  Americans are sick of your elitist arrogance.  The President is supposed to be a citizen.  We rejected the idea of having a King 250 years ago.  and I wouldnt get on  a plane Obama was piloting.  Leadership and character.  Sarah Palin has it.  Obama doesnt.

Palin 2012, still the frontrunner.

Submitted by vote24 on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 3:41pm.

The primary qualification I prefer is common sense. Anyone who has served as a Governor, Senator, U.S. Representative, Mayor of a substantial city, held a high Military rank, or been a major force in a major industry or business, is in my opinion sufficiently qualified to run for President. That is how I have always felt. What LSM is saying is unless you are sufficiently embroiled in the corruption of Washington, or indoctrinated in the University flavor of modern communism, you are not qualified. The media really screwed the pooch on Obama, when they should have done some basic investigating. That is the moment they exposed themselves as Democrat activists and not journalists at all.
