As NewsBusters reported last month, an interview between former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and daytime television star Oprah Winfrey is scheduled to air next Monday.
On Thursday Oprah released a couple of previews.
Most interesting was the snippet of Winfrey asking Palin about her controversial interview with CBS "Evening News" anchor Katie Couric (video embedded below the fold with transcript):
OPRAH WINFREY, HOST: Let's talk about the interview with Katie Couric.SARAH PALIN: Ha, ha. Must we? Okay.
WINFREY: Yeah.
PALIN: Okay.
WINFREY: You talk about it in the book, so I assume everything in the book is fair game.
PALIN: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is.
WINFREY: You do say that it wasn't your best interview. [...]
PALIN: But, there again...
WINFREY: Do you think that was a seminal, defining moment for you? That interview?
PALIN: I did not, and neither did the campaign. In fact, that is why segment two, and three, and four, and maybe five were scheduled. The campaign said, "Right on. Good. You're showing your independence. This is what America needs to see. And it was a good interview." And of course I'm thinking, "If you thought that was a good interview, I don't know what a bad interview was." Because I knew it wasn't a good interview.

The Couric interview was terrible
November 13, 2009 - 00:36 ET by shawn228I still remember how some posters blamed it all on clever editing. Kudos to Palin for admitting it was not a good interview. I believe the Palin interview with Oprah will bring Oprah her best ratings in years, just like it she brough SNL it best ratings in years.
No matter what libs say, she is a very powerful and influential person.
Sarah is going to have some role in the next admin

Refreshing Politician
November 13, 2009 - 00:39 ET by ptsonSHE talks the talk and walks the walk, in her real life. This is not just rare but the opposite of almost every other politician.
SHE CONNECTS with people because she is real, unlike the phonies and hypocrites we have in Washington, now. This is why she is so feared and attacked so often, by the left.
She IS a factor in the future, NOW!

You ARE joking, right?
November 13, 2009 - 03:14 ET by TexasMom0517Obama is proving himself to be a weaker, more vacillating president than Carter and every other world leader knows it. He's going to China to beg them to continue to buy our debt. He's in the process of dismantling and bankrupting the country, but hey, he's "cool." I suspect that Palin can "handle" the media, if allowed to follow her own instincts. You may want to read "Three Billy Goats Gruff" before you post the latest Podesta talking points again.

November 13, 2009 - 09:31 ET by EllisWyattIf you can't handle Fox News, you can't handle anything. Obama's been proving that from Day 1.
If you're not outraged at the media, you haven't been paying attention.

November 13, 2009 - 11:24 ET by StarAZI believe your God's gift has said he doesn't watch "cable" or read the papers--and his wife also doesn't, he said. Hope no one asks them what papers they read. By the way--Palin has said several times, she was shocked to be asked that and wondered if they thought she read some special Alaska thing or something--she reads what we read--NYT, WSJ, and local papers. Alaska is one of the 57 states, after all.

Clearly there's no reason to thank him for giving you a brain.
It was not a "good"
November 13, 2009 - 01:22 ET by metaphorsbwithuIt was not a "good" interview but it wasn't as bad as has been claimed. It certainly would have been better had Couric conducted the kinds of interviews Obama and Biden had been getting.
Everyone should have known it would be a pop quiz/gotcha interview from the start. Gov. Palin basically got thrown to the dogs, faced tough, specific and issue-related questions from the start.
Wasn't the first question, "How do you stand on The Ledbetter Pay Act?"
Which she basically handled.
But I mean, C'mon!
Where were the questions about being a historic candidate and how she'd risen from the ranks of small-town mayor to Vice-Presidential candidate in a contest against the first African-American candidate for President.
Katie set out to make her look bad and, for all intents and purposes, her plan worked ... and helped set up the 24/7 assaults that began.
But it wasn't Katie Couric that helped deflate the McCain-Palin campaign, however. It was John McCain.
Anyway, Sarah's the real deal and she will come out of this experience better than ever, whatever she does.

November 13, 2009 - 07:05 ET by GeneralAlWe are thanking the Heavenly father for Obama! The longer this Plastic god of yours speaks, [Even with his precious teleprompter!], the more liberals will be voted out of Congress next year! I just wish there was a way to disable his precious TeleP, for then we'd have a massive landslide as people would see what a real phony he is! The Conservatives would win in 50 of the 57 statees! We don't care about winning in Cuba, Venezuella, North Korea, Iran, Syria, China, and Russia! Obam's crowd can carry those states!
Or the "inappropriate"
November 13, 2009 - 07:46 ET by nwahsOr the "inappropriate" ones like "what motivated you to settle?"
I'm still here :)
Yes, you're right.
November 13, 2009 - 11:11 ET by WhoIsJohnGaltWhen her lawyers told her not to discuss the settlement in any way, which happens in every lawsuit settlement (been there, done that), she should have ignored their advice in order to please Larry. That way, when the opposition lawyers claim that she violated the agreement, she could just say, "but, all I did was speak to my motivations..", which can be relevant in civil cases. Lawyers tell you, "Just don't discuss it at all, don't even try to figure out for yourself what CAN and what CANNOT be discussed. You'll get trapped or slip a detail, and the opposition will file breach of contract motions, whether legitimate or not, we'll have to defend against them".
But yes, she should have ignored counsel's instructions. Totally.
Whoa--wait a hot one

Infected by NY/DC elitism
November 13, 2009 - 09:58 ET by TexasMom0517Schmidt and Nicole Wallace are just as infected with the NY/DC elitism that permeates the political scene and are part of the overall problem that is "government."
I've wondered if Sarah Palin generates such hostility from the women of the media elite not only because of her conservative pov, obvious good looks and lack of an "Ivy League" degree, but simply because she has done it all herself. Her rise in political stature is not due to her father or her husband, but is uniquely her own- apparently, that's not permissable.

By admitting that the Couric
November 13, 2009 - 12:11 ET by Rev_EricBy admitting that the Couric interview was bad, Sarah Palin helped to reduce any impact that interview could have had on any future runs she might make.
