On Thursday, NewsBusters asked if the media would notice Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Cal.) being called out by the CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce for her racist and condescending treatment of him during a Senate hearing.
Such seemed a particularly important question as this disgraceful event occurred on the 100th anniversary of the NAACP.
Yet, according to LexisNexis, not one major media outlet other than FNC thought it was at all newsworthy that Harry Alford called Boxer "God-awful" for pitting the opinions of other black organizations against his.
You think this would have been boycotted, especially on the 100th anniversary of the NAACP, if Boxer had an "R" next to her name instead of a "D"?
For those interested in hearing more from Alford, he was interviewed by LA radio host and Sarah Palin documentarian John Ziegler Friday, and made some comments about Boxer I guarantee media will also ignore (video embedded below the fold, h/t Hot Air):
Now, imagine for a moment that the ranking Republican at that hearing, Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), had been accused of racism by Alford.
Do you think this would have gotten media's attention?
In fact, as it occurred on the same day President Obama was speaking at the gala for the 100th anniversary of the NAACP, such remarks by a Republican would have been used as an example of how racism is still a problem in our nation.
I guess media didn't want to use what happened between Alford and Boxer to demonstrate such.
Any wonder why?

Boxer Bigot
July 18, 2009 - 11:50 ET by pickerseniorThis poor excuse for an enlightened woman is a major embarrassment to our state! She has not progressed in her mental state beyond a slave master or plantation owner in the early 19th century south.
I saw the exchange and it was reprehensible and disgusting on Boxer's part, to say the least. This episode should be played on every media outlet to show her for what she is!
Why any idiot votes for this person is totally beyond me.

Beyond the pale
July 18, 2009 - 12:10 ET by jdlybrandBoxer's condescending behavior is reprehensible. The media silence is deafening. And the NAACP shows itself once again to be irrelevent. We have allowed organizations like the NAACP and career race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson to define racism. Now a 'hate crimes' bill looms (in a war funding bill), and don't think for one second that it will ever apply to a white anglo saxon Protestant male shoud he be a victim. It will only apply persons of color, women, homosexuals, and Muslims.

I think we're doing damage here to ourselves....
July 18, 2009 - 13:24 ET by Timothy HI think we're doing damage to ourselves here. Look at the posts on both this and the linked blog. We sound like Liberals.
Let me state for the record that I agree with Noel's posts. This isn't about that, and in fact, most of the comments haven't been about that either.
In the posts, Noel is careful NOT to call Boxer a racist. The subject of the posts is that the media would be all over a Republican if the same statement s where made. So think about this. If it WERE a Repubican, as it often is, would we be on here calling him a racist, or griping about the ignorance being heaped on said (R)?
While I personally detest Boxer, she got caught in the same trap that Repubs do all the time. She actually didn't do anything racist and used a logical means of dragging a red herring across a losing argument. Common tactic that isn't motivated by race, but by desperation. As far as condescension goes, Boxer is condescending to everyone of the opposing view point, so I don't see race as a factor there, either. Let it noted though that I take a sick sort of glee in watching the video of her being played the same way so many Repubs get played, and in watching her squirm when she does.
My point is, I guess, that by doing exactly what we are complaining about the MSM and libs do (i.e., charging her as a racist when she was clearly being racist in her approach), we undermine our own credibility by showing the same bias that we are complaining about. I agree that it is fun to give Barbie and her gang a taste of their own medicine, but we are giving the opposition reason to dismiss us every time we do.
Just something to think about.
A point in reflection: Note that I am in no way saying Barbie ISN'T a racist. I actually belive that she and a large number of her party are due to all there efforts to undermine and subvert true advancements of minorities while smiling and telling us that they are actually making our lives easier.

July 18, 2009 - 15:47 ET by Timothy HI'm not sure I understood your reply. Was this a simple statement of the bias? Or was it an attack on me for noting that sinking ourselves to the level of the liberals is akin to arguing with the stupid, allowing them to bring you down to their level, and letting them beat you bloody with it?
I'm not attacking here. Just asking you to clarify, because I was honestly unsure.

July 18, 2009 - 17:34 ET by Timothy HI respectfully disagree, my friend. Taken out of context, I'd agree. But in the whole picture, the man was there as the head of the Black Chamber of Commerce, which is defined by race and thus was brought the racial aspect to the conversation in the first place. Boxer just countered. Why is Alford listing hiimself as the President and CEO of the BLACK chamber of congress when he could just as easily list himself as a board member of the US Chamber of Commerce if not for wanting to note the racial component. I know it looks like I am defending Boxer here, but in truth, I am trying to look at this fromthe same standpoint I would look at it if it was a Republican instead of Boxer.
As far as her being condescending, again it's out of context. When is Boxer not condescending to the bearer of an opposing viewpoint? Where is the racial component in that?
If I had never seen Boxer before, I might agree. But this was Boxer being Boxer, not Boxer being racist. It was nice to see her squirm the way Repubs are forced to all the time when someone plays the race card.

July 18, 2009 - 18:23 ET by Timothy HI agree that this is all opinion based, and I respect your's (hard not to when you and I agree 99% of the time, lol).
But again, I can't see myself calling a republican who did the same thing a racist. A condescending a$$? Yep. But given Alford's framing the entire interview by boasting his Black COC tag instead of his Chairman of the USCOC tag, Boxer's stupidity, and her overall condescending nature, I see this as nothing more than her getting caught inthe racecard trap that repubs get caught in constantly.
Alford brought race to the table (like it or not, that's what his title brings). Boxer tried to counter with a diverse viewpoint that included the Alford's own group and believing she had him, she did so in a condescending matter. Alford did exactly what has been done so many times before and launched the race card instead of trying to contest or rebut the entered material (which i still can't understand why he didn't, given the ease by which he could have, IMHO). Boxer was caught totally of gaurd (I mean, who pulls the race card on a liberal? She never saw that coming! lmao!) and bumbled through angrily afterward. That's how I saw it.

Great interview... Alford
July 18, 2009 - 13:28 ET by bigtimerGreat interview...
Alford told it exactly how it is with her, and for that matter plenty of others on the left...obnoxious and a bigot....he couldn't have described her any better....glad he brought in Condi and Janice Rogers Brown....those are prime examples with her and I saw both of those.
...and Noel, I used the same exact example you did above somewhere, you bet if this were the other way around, reversed and Inhofe had said any of what Boxer and her arrogance did....the msm would have been all over the place 24/7 with repeated clips demanding he apologize, let alone be called to exit the Senate altogether.
It has been infuriating the lack of any of this in the msm, as I jsut knew it would be, I had a small grain of hope...but by that evening after this was out, and nada about it elsewhere...other than a bit on FOX, it was easy to see the picture clearly.

this is the sad part
July 18, 2009 - 13:53 ET by Ascended Conservativepeople and especially liberals calling themselves progressives have been essentially brainwashed to actually believe in themselves and hate conservatives. i do not think that most on the left including Mrs. Boxer see anything wrong with what had occured during that hearing. they somehow think they should be patted on the back for what was attempted.
i hear so much mangled history on the news from pundits. that is truly is frightening. people are settling in molds based on misinformation and half truths. America's apparent dichotomy in ideology all boils down to individualism versus collectivism. human beings are funny creatures. individually, we can be smart and very independent, but as a "collective" we are very ignorant and easy to control. being in a collective allowing "higher ups" to make decisions for you is analogous to being a slave. period.

July 18, 2009 - 13:56 ET by mostlymoderateI just realized that we are totally screwed. If the media has failed to report THIS, a blatant display of racism, the media is definitely in the back-pocket of the Democrats. They can do anything they want and the media won't report it.
Boxer isn't the only one.
July 18, 2009 - 14:07 ET by pbthinkerDoes anyone think Barbara Boxer is the only one that thinks like this? If you're black, and you're not on the Democrat plantation, be prepared to have encounters just like this. The Democrats will find a way to do it. Usually, they'll arrange for another black politician to call your character or intelligence into question.
It's Democrats, not Republicans, who are always concious of race, gender, etc. If you don't fit their template they will attack you, anyone remember COndoleeza Rice or Sarah Palin? These people ar pretty dispicable.

July 18, 2009 - 14:09 ET by Jack BauerGreg -- gotta say, that's down to the Republican party and its constant cave.
You're right, they caved.
July 18, 2009 - 14:18 ET by GregEYou're right, they caved. But the fact that we never heard the end of it and everyone on the Left (including media) was that piece of it. Republicans caving was the Republican piece and I agree. They should have continued with Lott in his leadership roll and eventually (who knows how long with these Leftist freaks), it would have passed over and the media would have run out of things to say about it.
I was coming back to edit my post by adding the link, but it was replied to I couldn't. Here it is for anyone who hasn't seen it and wants to blast it out to as many people on their email list as possible.

Boxer is Stoopid.......
July 18, 2009 - 14:41 ET by DeclinesToStateI want back and watched the original back and forth between Boxer and Mr. Alford. Boxer is condescending and racial, but her biggest deficit is her over-the-top stupidity. She challenges Mr. Alford's connection to California so as to diminish his comments on the subject then puts into record something from the NAACP and some guy from Atlanta??
This lady is so out of touch I can't fathom how she has ever been elected. She can't have a factual argument on a subject she should be an expert on, and chooses to counter the opinion of a man who happens to be black with statements of black organizations.
Arrogance coupled with an absence of intellect is an embarrassment of stunning proportion for California.

You are not an Individual
July 19, 2009 - 10:31 ET by ThoreauYou can plainly see why socialists and communists can not understand what Individual Rights are- right in that video. She is visually taken aback. She can't comprehend that a black man isn't part of a group that curry's favor for government scraps. You can see it in her eyes. She has no idea what to do when she can't identify a person in a group. Race, sex, class, sexuality, etc. It's actually uncomfortable to watch a human being act like this- just in general.
This is how I historically see the "left" at it's core- absolute government where there are no individual rights. The individual has no Rights or innate value. Only groups in an oligarchy(dictatorship by the few) have value. If he's black he has to support government funded groups with blacks! Her racism is only a first glimpse at what's coming. When Sotomayor is appointed to the Supreme Court, all Individuals will be imperiled.
try this...
July 19, 2009 - 11:20 ET by Ascended Conservativetake your historical impressions and advance them several hundred years from today. what do you see? i see something pretty scary where the individual is no more, except for the few elites ruling over the lower caste.

Exactly
July 19, 2009 - 13:15 ET by SeftonThis is the illustration in a nutshell given to us by the likes of Boxer in the exchange with Alford. It takes the collective to the extremes and abhors any association with individual rights.

NAACP and racism
July 20, 2009 - 10:58 ET by grumpyoldbNot to make anyone upset here, but If membership to an organization and receiving benefits from that organization are based solely on race, you are dealing with a racist organization. NAACP, while called the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, they only support one color of people, and these days they get mad if you call them colored...... Just an observation from an old geezer that's seen a lot of changes in the world....
