Realizing that Barack Obama's healthcare initiative has hit some roadblocks in Congress, the good folks at CBS News and the New York Times figured they'd help it along by creating a new poll on the subject that WAY oversampled people who voted for Obama.
Although the then junior senator from Illinois received 53 percent of the votes last November, NYT/CBS surveyed almost twice as many Obama voters as McCain voters.
Before we get to the hilarious inner-workings of this truly disgraceful deception, here's how the Times reported its rigged findings Saturday (h/t Gateway Pundit via NBer slickwillie2001):
Americans overwhelmingly support substantial changes to the health care system and are strongly behind one of the most contentious proposals Congress is considering, a government-run insurance plan to compete with private insurers, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
The poll found that most Americans would be willing to pay higher taxes so everyone could have health insurance and that they said the government could do a better job of holding down health-care costs than the private sector.
Actually, as Bruce Kesler cleverly discovered, what the poll really found was that most Obama voters support substantial changes to healthcare and are willing to pay higher taxes for a government run system:
[A]ccording to the actual poll data, of the 73% of respondents who said they voted in 2008 only 34% voted for McCain and 66% for Obama.
As can be plainly seen on page 7 of the poll's data, only 73 percent of respondents divulged who they voted for last November. 48 percent said Obama, 25 percent McCain.
What this means is this poll surveyed 66 percent Obama supporters versus 34 percent McCain.
As the final tally last year was 53 percent to 46 percent, this poll WAY oversampled Obama voters.
And you wonder why the survey found so much support for Obamacare?
Honestly, stuff like this should be illegal and any news organization found doing it should be significantly fined.
In any industry you could name, such deception of the public would meet with very serious consequences.
Why are so-called news outlets allowed to get away with such obvious deceit with total impunity?

NY Times poll vs reality.
June 21, 2009 - 12:58 ET by Gary HallMy thoughts... Bill Keller was on "This Week" this AM pushing the so-called findings. The poll gets what it wants. It's asking uneducated folks (uneducated on the issues at hand) questions they really don't understand. For instance, from the NY Times (my bold):
"Something like Medicare?" How many of this 72% understand that Medicare is not a comprehensive medical plan - never has been? That's why tens of millions of older Medicare recipients all run out and purchase a Medicare supplement plan - a private insurance plan to cover what Medicare doesn't cover.
How many of the 72% clearly understand that in broad slices of the country - one cannot find a physician who will take Medicare. "Hey - I love my new Medicare for all plan -- but I don't have a doctor?"
How many of the 72% heard that SC nominee Sotomayor's brother, Dr. Juan Sotomayor, runs an asthma clinic in Sycamore, NY which does not accept Medicare (or Medicaid) patients. Think EE. Empty Empathy.
How many of the 72% heard, or understand, that Obama just announced that he's proposing to slash funding for Medicare and Medicaid by some $400 to $600 billion --- oh yeah - that will make it more comprehensive and bring in more primary care physicians to that failed and corrupt system. Note: He's robbing Peter to pay Paul.
I'd bet they've all heard that Medicare is going bankrupt. Did they consider that in their answer? 72% of folks want to belong to an almost worthless plan, where you can't find a doctor, which was already going bankrupt and which the boy President is currently threatening to slash funding for.
An to top it all off. Listen here to what Obama said, a week ago Saturday in Green Bay, WI about the historically sacred twin sacred cows, Medicare and Medicaid:
Yes - he actually said that.

What do you wanta bet?
June 21, 2009 - 14:11 ET by StarAZDo you think it's possible the insurers have been promised they can offer supplementals to the public option--at least in Medicare's case, every supplemental in each category has to cover the same things, no matter what co issues it. Not so for the drug programs, where your head can explode (thus requiring more drugs).

June 21, 2009 - 14:12 ET by shawn228I am generally a believer of polls and they are extremely important on judging where the winds are blowing. However, I only believe polls when they are constant and through a decent period of time of at least a month and there have to be different polls from different polling samples and pollsters
I only got a C+ in Stats class, but I remember that you should pick from sample or clusters. Not hand picked.
CBS is clearly biasing this poll so they can help Obama pursue his agenda.

Obama wants a Nation of Indentured Servants
June 21, 2009 - 15:38 ET by Retired GeekAn indentured servant is a form of debt bondage worker.
Historically 'Indentured Servants' were required to work a specific number of years, usually (3 to 7), but the 'Hope' Obama brings with his 'Change', is that the 'Indentured Servants' will only serve from April 15 of one year to April 15 of the next.
The 'Indentured Servitude' class or 'Collective' that Barack Obama is creating, will only be a segment of the American Citizens, comprised of those who willingly work in an attempt to provide for themselves and their families - all others are exempt.
The children of the 'Indentured Servant Class' automatically inherit the 'Debt Bondage' of their parents.
Barack Obama hails this 'Indentured Collective' as Patriotic and a 'Sacrifice for the Common Good'.
This 'Collective' is quite similar to 'Share Cropping', where the worker is allowed to keep a small portion of their labor for personal use.
Barack Obama is NOW destroying the American farmer and food supply, by with holding water to 100,000 square miles of the most fertile land on Earth in California.
The control of the 'Food Supply' is necessary to Barack Obama, so that he can ration enough food for the 'Indentured Servants' to remain alive and work.
Those who are NOT in the 'Indentured Servant Collective' will become the owners and operators, of the 'Indentured Servitude Collective'.
This is but one small aspect of the 'Hope and Change' Barack Obama is bringing to America.
You got it Geek

who would actually believe
June 21, 2009 - 23:26 ET by spmcintyrethat a biased new agency, needing something to write about, would actually come up with a nonbiased poll?
Also, if they were doing their job, I think that these "news agencies" would be able to find things more news worthy if they actually did report the truth, instead of pretending to take polls on inane subjects that they want to make news worthy.
How much crap could they publish that is truth, but would actually be harmful to the SLObama Whitehouse? How often did they go out of their way to stretch and make fit even semi truthful news in just such a way to make Bush look bad?
I am very disappointed, I thought the media was supposed to be the ones to keep goverenment honest, not be the ones that are the first lines of attack against freedom and truth

Response from NYT editor on their polling method
June 22, 2009 - 05:43 ET by guefyI apppreciate your question about the measure on the poll of respondents' vote in the last presidential election. Historically, our polls and others have found that respondents do not always accurately recall who they voted for in the past and much depends on the popularity of whoever is living in the White House. There was quite a good discussion of this phenomenon on Slate recently, which you might want to take a look at. We use the question for purposes of internal analysis but do not rely on it in any substantive
way. We are more likley to rely on poll respondents' self reported party identification or political ideology when it comes to looking at differences between political groups. Thank you for being such a careful reader of The New York Times and for your interest in The New York Times/CBS News Poll.
Sincerely,
