Why would anyone trust polls conducted by the MSM?

Surprise, surprise!   People who don't pay taxes are in favor of raising the tax rates of the people who do pay taxes in order to have "free" health care.   Wow. Shocker.  

We used to laugh about propaganda driven media like in North Korea, where they report that Kim Jong scored like 7 hole-in-ones the first time he played golf,  but now the jokes on us.

When asked if he went to war with Iraq  to derail the impeachment vote:  “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).

My thoughts... Bill Keller was on "This Week" this AM pushing the so-called findings. The poll gets what it wants. It's asking uneducated folks (uneducated on the issues at hand) questions they really don't understand. For instance, from the NY Times (my bold):

The national telephone survey, which was conducted from June 12 to 16, found that 72 percent of those questioned supported a government-administered insurance plan — something like Medicare for those under 65 — that would compete for customers with private insurers.  

 

"Something like Medicare?" How many of this 72% understand that Medicare is not a comprehensive medical plan - never has been? That's why tens of millions of older Medicare recipients all run out and purchase a Medicare supplement plan - a private insurance plan to cover what Medicare doesn't cover.

How many of the 72% clearly understand that in broad slices of the country - one cannot find a physician who will take Medicare. "Hey - I love my new Medicare for all plan -- but I don't have a doctor?"

How many of the 72% heard that SC nominee Sotomayor's brother, Dr. Juan Sotomayor, runs an asthma clinic in Sycamore, NY which does not accept Medicare (or Medicaid) patients. Think EE. Empty Empathy.

How many of the 72% heard, or understand, that Obama just announced that he's proposing to slash funding for Medicare and Medicaid by some $400 to $600 billion --- oh yeah - that will make it more comprehensive and bring in more primary care physicians to that failed and corrupt system. Note: He's robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I'd bet they've all heard that Medicare is going bankrupt. Did they consider that in their answer? 72% of folks want to belong to an almost worthless plan, where you can't find a doctor, which was already going bankrupt and which the boy President is currently threatening to slash funding for.

An to top it all off. Listen here to what Obama said, a week ago Saturday in Green Bay, WI about the historically sacred twin sacred cows, Medicare and Medicaid:

The real problem is Medicaid and Medicare. That's the nightmare scenario.

Yes - he actually said that. 

Sign me up. Ya betcha!

Last weeks in depth polling from the Pew Reasearch Center, provides a heck of a lot more detail of how the American people actually think.

Most Americans believe that the nation’s health care system is in need of substantial changes. Four-in-ten (41%) say the health care system needs to be completely rebuilt, while 30% think it needs fundamental changes. About one-in-four (24%) believe that the health care system works pretty well and needs only minor changes.

But there is less support for completely rebuilding the health care system than there was during the early stage of the Clinton administration’s unsuccessful effort to revamp health care. In April 1993, a majority of Americans (55%) said the health care system needed to be completely rebuilt.

Who are these people who are willing to pay higher taxes to finance some illegal, bum or crackhead's health insurance?

I have lib friends, and I don't think even any of them agree with this concept.

Leave it to NYT/CBS to ferret out the most hardcore lefties they can find to poll.  

 that are "uninsured?" What, does it go up 10 million every year? What a joke! Let's take the number from last year, 40 million. What most people don't know is that all the illegal aliens are in that number which means over 90% of Americans have medical insurance.

An indentured servant is a form of debt bondage worker.

Historically 'Indentured Servants' were required to work a specific number of years, usually (3 to 7), but the 'Hope' Obama brings with his 'Change', is that the 'Indentured Servants' will only serve from April 15 of one year to April 15 of the next.

The 'Indentured Servitude' class or 'Collective' that Barack Obama is creating, will only be a segment of the American Citizens, comprised of those who willingly work in an attempt to provide for themselves and their families - all others are exempt.

The children of the 'Indentured Servant Class' automatically inherit the 'Debt Bondage' of their parents.

Barack Obama hails this 'Indentured Collective' as Patriotic and a 'Sacrifice for the Common Good'.

This 'Collective' is quite similar to 'Share Cropping', where the worker is allowed to keep a small portion of their labor for personal use.

Barack Obama is NOW destroying the American farmer and food supply, by with holding water to 100,000 square miles of the most fertile land on Earth in California.

The control of the 'Food Supply' is necessary to Barack Obama, so that he can ration enough food for the 'Indentured Servants' to remain alive and work.

Those who are NOT in the 'Indentured Servant Collective' will become the owners and operators, of the 'Indentured Servitude Collective'.

This is but one small aspect of the 'Hope and Change' Barack Obama is bringing to America.

 RIDICULOUS. Absolutely unacceptable. People, let's speak up. We need to make a change. This is not right. I will never support the intentional distortion of the truth.

I apppreciate your question about the measure on the poll of respondents' vote in the last presidential election. Historically, our polls and others have found that respondents do not always accurately recall who they voted for in the past and much depends on the popularity of whoever is living in the White House. There was quite a good discussion of this phenomenon on Slate recently, which you might want to take a look at. We use the question for purposes of internal analysis but do not rely on it in any substantive
way. We are more likley to rely on poll respondents' self reported party identification or political ideology when it comes to looking at differences between political groups. Thank you for being such a careful reader of The New York Times and for your interest in The New York Times/CBS News Poll.
