Olbermann Again Channels Media Matters, Calls For CBSer's Firing

Keith Olbermann, who in March scolded Fox News's Brit Hume for admitting that he often used information provided by the Media Research Center in his "Special Report" program, has once again channeled material taken directly from the far-left, George Soros funded, Clinton front-group Media Matters for America.

Even better, the story was actually precipitated by an article read on the air Friday afternoon during -- wait for it!!! -- Rush Limbaugh's radio show.

But before we get there, embedded below the fold is the video and partial transcript from Friday evening's "Countdown" on MSNBC:

And our winner, soon to be ex-CBS sports golf analyst David Feherty, who writes in the April edition of the Texas publication "D Magazine," quote, "From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this, though. Despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama bin Laden, there`s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death." Wow.

Manages to threaten by proxy the lives of the speaker of the House of Representatives and the majority leader in the Senate and smear the average U.S. soldier as a potential political assassin.

There`s free speech, and then there is the abuse of free speech. And when you start predicting the hypothetical murder by the U.S. military of two democratically-elected officials of this country, it`s not exactly rocket science to tell which this is. Even Feherty should be able to figure it out.

He has not yet resigned. CBS Sports has not yet fired him, which is especially troubling since the head of CBS Sports is also the head of CBS News, and the Secret Service apparently has not called him yet. I guess it is just a question of who gets him first.

David Feherty, today`s worst person in the world.

Readers are advised that the article in question was first published online back on March 23. So, how did this surface almost seven weeks later?

Well, Dallas-based conservative radio host Mark Davis was filling in for Rush Limbaugh yesterday, and he read Feherty's "D" magazine piece -- "D" standing for Dallas -- to his listeners.

Of course, the shills at MMA were also listening, and quickly posted the audio at 2:12 PM EST. Two and a half hours later, at 4:44 PM EST, MMA issued a press release demanding Feherty's apology. And, about four hours later, Olbermann took it further referring to Feherty as "ex-CBS sports golf analyst" while calling for him to resign or be fired.

Unfortunately, missing in all the outrage was some context. Now, readers are advised that I am by no means condoning what Feherty wrote. Depicting an American soldier killing elected officials is certainly going over the line. Let's be clear about that.

However, this "D" magazine issue devoted a good deal of space for Dallas writers to offer their opinions of how the area will be impacted by George W. Bush's return. With this in mind, Feherty gave a rather tongue-in-cheek view in a piece called "An F-List Celeb Imagines What Preston Hollow Life Will Be Like For W":

Given the events of the past eight years, once George the Second escaped from Washington, D.C., I think most of us here in Dallas would have understood if he and the former First Missus had moved someplace a little more secluded than Preston Hollow. Like Area 51, maybe, or some sandbar in the Galapagos Islands, just so they could catch their breath for a couple of years and take stock of their lives. I mean, what a nightmare of a time that was to be president of the United States! His two terms must have felt like the rest of the world had inserted the Washington Monument into him and it was his job to heave it out. Although there are those who insist that most of our problems were Dubya’s fault, having spent considerable time in the Middle East myself, I think it’s unlikely history will tell the same story.

After discussing how Bush lovers in the area will constantly try to meet the former President, Feherty moved in a different direction:

Here’s the thing: all of this visiting will be perpetrated by people who actually like 43! What about those who consider him the root of all evil? We have a few of those, and I can’t imagine what that bunch of self-righteous, indignant jerks might be like if they get the chance to visit. As for me, my politics are somewhere in the middle—and then way outside both wings. I believe in the death penalty, especially for pro-lifers, child molesters, those opposed to gay marriage, and for stupid dancing in the end zone. I believe in the abolition of estate taxes and the Pickens Plan. I’d lower the legal drinking age and raise the driving age to 18 nationwide, make Kinky Friedman governor of Texas, and make all schools, public and private, start earlier with one hour of physical exercise.

Interesting. So, before his comments about Pelosi and Reid, Feherty advocated the death of pro-lifers, child molesters, and those opposed to gay marriage.

How did this escape the eyes of Olbermann and his shills at MMA? Did they miss it, or just weren't outraged by Feherty's suggestion that all pro-lifers and opponents to gay marriage should receive the death penalty?

While you ponder, let's move to the money section that was cherry picked from to invoke all this anger:

I’d have to say, though, that if I were G2, I’d have to consider the wisdom of that 30-year rule that applies to classified government documents. I’d wait at least that long before I moved to Preston Hollow. Thirty years seems to be about the length of time it takes Americans to forget really bad things. Look at Donny and Marie Osmond. Does no one remember how badly they sucked the first time around? Yet both of them are back on television for no apparent reason, other than one is fat and can’t dance, and the other is a Hollywood used-to-be who squeals mindless gossip on people who would rather dive into oncoming traffic than talk to him. If Dubya were to reappear at 92 years old, his first album would probably go platinum. And, anyway, it will be that long before any of us knows the truth about how and why he played some of the rotten cards he was dealt.

From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this, though: despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death. I’ve never met a soldier who didn’t love this president and this country, and I’ve met a bunch of them, at home and abroad, in hospitals and in theater. At Walter Reed, Bethesda Naval Medical Center, and the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, I have visited dozens of patients, and I always ask of them before I leave: “What do you want to do when you get out?” No matter how broken or burned, or how many limbs they are missing, they give only one answer: “I want to go back. I want to rejoin my team, to finish our mission.” They are rightfully proud of what they have done and want nothing more than to be with their brothers and sisters in arms, because they know the consequences if their job is left unfinished. Right here on American soil, we will end up with unqualified people having to do the job they have been doing over there so incredibly well, and with such extraordinary compassion. The fact is, Americans in America have been safe since 9/11, almost the whole length of G2’s term as president, and for that we should be thankful.

As such, Feherty's point, however callously made, was that the media have been unduly harsh on Bush, and that despite all the anti-war sentiments, folks in the press have improperly represented the military's view of the former President, and have withheld from the public the contempt our soldiers feel for elected officials that have undermined their efforts.

Does that make Feherty's picture in that elevator any more acceptable?

Well, as this came after the writer suggested over half of Americans should be killed -- a recent Quinnipiac University poll found 55 percent of respondents opposing laws in their states that would make same-sex marriage legal -- it sure seems this golf analyst is an equal opportunity offender.

With this in mind, maybe someone on Olbermann's staff should actually READ the entire articles they're quoting from, especially ones provided by these shameless, left-wing shills.

It doesn't surprise me...

that the author would make excuses for this idiot's statement.

Can't it just be said that what he said was wrong...PERIOD? End it at that. It doesn't count if you say, 'what he said was bad, BUT..'

You're right about the author - I disagree with him too!

Where he says "Now, readers are advised that I am by no means condoning what Feherty
wrote. Depicting an American soldier killing elected officials is
certainly going over the line. Let's be clear about that." - yeah, I disgree with that statement. The author shouldn't be apologetic.

The joke was meant to be an amusing way to portray the military's feelings for Pelosi and Reid.  Worked for me.  But no apologies, please.  After all, the left can say some things that are 100 times more offensive and they never have to apologize.  Nor should we.   Though our military forces are generally too well trained to let their personal feelings cloud their judgment.  For which Pelosi and Reid should be thankful, as they do more damage to this country on a daily basis than an 'enemy' ever could.

He shouldn't have to make

He shouldn't have to make excuses for the statement.  Olberdouche and Media Matters' reactions are simply the kind of manufactured outrage that deserve ridicule.  Kind of like most of your posts.

Yeah, I think the head of

Yeah, I think the head of CBS News and CBS Sports has far bigger priorities in sorting out his businesses than clipping his most popular golf announcer on the orders of an MSNon-entity anchor and Media Matters.  Like perhaps the woeful ratings his evening "news" anchorette is delivering in exchange for her massive salary...

By the way, Stretch Pelosi "represents" about 80% of San Francisco, last I checked.  Meaning she's about as "Democratically Elected" as Fidel Castro and Saddam Hussein.

Keith has become so irrelevent due to his loss of sanity over

the few years.

Perhaps he can keep showing up on The Soup to make people believe that he is "fun loving"....  anybody buying this guys schtick?

Joel, you are not helping yourself by having this insane guy on your show unless you are actually trying to show the parrallels Keith has to the insanity of the shows you hilight from week to week.

Given Keith's history of wishing ill on certain gov. officials..

...particularly our former Vice President, he probably should consider keeping his stupid trap shut:

Isn't it ironic that

Isn't it ironic that Feherty spit out something that actually sounds a lot like something you would hear on Olbermann's nightly comedy show on a daily basis?

Especially when he used to

Especially when he used to have (don't know if he does anymore, since I quit watching) those stupid, brain-dead, washed-up supposed comedians on trying out those type of lines...it was pathetic.

Olbermann doesn't have room

Olbermann doesn't have room to talk since he did the same about Bush and Cheney for the past 8 years. How does he have any moral ground to talk about a network firing anybody........

Just when you think he can't possibly get any stupider...

Olberdork will surprise you.

Hey Janet Napolitano...I'm proud to be a Right-winger.

Great catch here... What

Great catch here...

What I want to know is when is there going to be demands for Olbermann to resign...my gawd...all the incendiary, evil words he has said in his special comment section used to be enough alone...talk about a treasonous traitor...especially during a time of war.

He's a despicable piece of work....along with Soros and his Team.

What a hypocrite

During the Democratic Primaries, Goebells-Olbermann mentioned that someone "should take Hilary Clinton into a room and only one person should walk out."  Meaning that someone should beat her ass so she wouldn't be able to continue running against Obama.

If NBC didn't fire him for that dumb statement, why should CBS fire someone for an equally stupid statement?

By the way, I'm guessing that Olberwomann (who is a well known misogynist) wasn't contacted by the Secret Service.

He scold's Hume for using

He scold's Hume for using material from the MRC while he frequently post's on Kos.

I still can't believe that there are actually people, whom still watch this windbag. And he's their highest rated person on PMSNBC. What does that tell you about that floundering network?

If I was stuck on an elevator with OBL and KO, I think I would just pee on Keith's shoes.

No wonder 11 of the top 20 cable news shows are from FoxNews. If Fox had 20 shows they would be the top 20.

Olbermann must have a large extended family since those are the only people watching him. And with the divorce rate what it is he'll lose about half his audience in the next year.

I can hardly stand to read about this stuff, and I'm not on enough meds to actually watch it.

Nice find.

I watched the video.  Did anyone catch this from Obly?

Did Olby criticize Janet Napolitano on her description of who to watch closely?  As I recall, the US soldier was mentioned there too.  Did Obly take issue?

The Left has no sense of humor.

The Left has no sense of humor -- case in point, Wanda Sykes. Offensive humor is a shtick. I don't find it funny most of the time because it is not done well. Humor has to have a grain of truth in order to work; and no one is going to believe that a soldier would waste 2 bullets on Pelosi when one good pistol whip to the head would do it.

Leftists have a genetic disability preventing them from recognizing hypocrisy and irony in themselves while fictitiously finding it in others when it does not exist.

I Take Four Days Off From Posting, And All Hell Breaks Loose?

Okay, so Media Matters are shills for the left. It doesn't change the fact that MRC shills for the right. So basically, both are shills for their respective ideologies. I read both these sites (I tend to spend more time reading more here than at MMFA because the news here interests me [in addition to pissing me off from time to time.])

I will still stand by my belief that George Soros is a wonderful human being who is concerned about the needs of the American people, particularly those who have been wrongly incarcerated by the 3 Strikes Law. It's pretty much the only reason I support him, but I think it's enough.

If George Soros, a man who

If George Soros, a man who accumulates his obsene wealth not by producing anything of value, but by destroying currencies, is your idea of a wonderful human being, you have some serious problems.  He is a thief, a thug and a pimp...and that's being kind.

Sticks

Sticks,

There is a huge difference between MMA and MRC, and if you don't see it, you're blind or dishonest.

The goal of the MRC is to expose liberal bias in the media. We are NOT trying to eliminate liberal opinions in the press, but instead would like a better balance between left and right views being expressed and offered.

By contrast, MMA wants ALL conservative opinions to be nonexistent in print and on the air and radiowaves. Furthermore, they even want opinions that they don't agree with spoken by left-leaning media members to be eliminated.

For instance, they actually attack Chris Matthews whenever he has the nerve to say something positive about a Republican or negative about a Democrat they support.

As such, they advocate censorship, and encourage readers to complain to media outlets when anything they don't agree with is written or uttered.

We don't do that.

In the end, MMA would like it if all newspapers had similar content as the Nation, all television news programs mimicked "Countdown," and all talk radio was "Air America."

By contrast, we don't want all print to be National Review, all television news programs to be "Hannity," and all talk radio to be Rush. Instead, we'd like the balance to be closer to 50-50 than today's 90-10.

Once again, if you can't see this, you either are blind or are being dishonest.  ns
