Count CNN's Lou Dobbs amongst the likely millions of Americans disgusted by Janeane Garofalo's vitriolic attacks Thursday when she claimed the previous day's Tea Parties "were about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks."
On his radio program Friday, Dobbs took issue with the actress, comedian, and activist, referring to her as a "nasty piece of business," " a one woman, you know, hate event," and "an appalling human being."
Dobbs also pointed fingers at the network responsible for this disgraceful broadcast, MSNBC, for thinking "their responsibility as a media is to be a conduit for the Obama administration. They think they are the bastion of the, the 21st century socialistic thought. They're as left-wing as it can get, and they apparently are hell-bound to be the conduit for the Obama administration, the venue for left-wing politics and zaniness in this country."
The audio of Dobbs' marvelous monologue is available here courtesy our friend Johnny Dollar, with a transcript below the fold (h/t Jeff Poor):
LOU DOBBS, HOST: The national liberal media just had a fit by the way. So, each and every one of you that went to one of these Tea Parties, thanks for doing so. I hope the next Tea Party, whatever it's styled as, everybody will go to, because no other reason than this: the national liberal media gets so snarky it can't stand itself. Then, all of these too cute by half ideologues trying to pose as some sort of objective journalists, these fools start falling off their little high horses. It's fun to me. But, I'm pretty sure you're going to see a lot more snarky little nastiness coming out of the national liberal media. They can't accept that the American people, that the vast majority of Americans in this country are through with the ideological nonsense whether it's on the left or the right, and they're sure through with the national liberal media who think they're just a heck of a lot smarter than everybody else in this country.
Get ready for a lot of vitriol, a lot of pure, you know, this Janeane Garofalo, who, by the way, I don't know what she does other than appear on left-wing venues and programs like Keith Olbermann, and just sort of whine and snark. She's a one woman, you know, hate event. She's just nasty, nasty piece of business. My Lord, and to be on Keith Olbermann's show, you know, a lot of meds running around there. His bile spewing everywhere. Listen to what, listen to this exchange on that unwatchable broadcast. Here she is with her own sweet perspective. This, if this isn't enough to revolt anybody, I don't know what would be required.
(AUDIO TAPE)
JANEANE GAROFALO: Let's be very honest about what this is about. It's not about bashing Democrats, it's not about taxes, they have no idea what the Boston tea party was about, they don't know their history at all. This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. And there is no way around that.
(END AUDIO TAPE)
DOBBS: Wow. You know, I haven't heard anyone equate criticism of the administration's now with racism until Janeane Garofalo appears on the "Overdone Show." I mean, I cannot believe this. It's about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up, and this is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. Is that about as hateful as you can get? I mean, she is just a, I think, an appalling human being. But, you know, she gets air time on that network where they can't get, they think that their responsibility as a media is to be a conduit for the Obama administration. They think they are the bastion of the, the 21st century socialistic thought. They're as left-wing as it can get, and they apparently are hell-bound to be the conduit for the Obama administration, the venue for left-wing politics and zaniness in this country, and power to them, because the farther they go in that direction, the more irrelevant, if they've been relevant at any point, but the more irrelevant they become.
Listen to the more insanity from this Garofalo. What a name, I like that -- Garofalo. Here she is:
(AUDIO TAPE)
GAROFALO: The Republican Party now depends upon immigrant bashing and hating the black guy in the White House. Will people act on that? It's not new. But, you know, Fox doesn't mind fomenting it. Michelle Bachmann doesn't mine fomenting it. Glenn Beck doesn't mind fomenting it.
KEITH OLBERMANN: Lou Dobbs.
GAROFALO: Lou Dobbs. Oh, man he sure doesn't mind. But this is, this their, what have they got if they don't have this?
(END AUDIO TAPE)
DOBBS: You know, I have a question. Both of those idiots, neither one of them has any idea what I'm saying. Secondly, I've never bashed immigrants in my life. Thirdly, what do Olbermann and this Garofalo, what do they have if not to look down their noses at their fellow Americans, and to put down an honest demonstration of public feeling? You know, this is the kind of lunacy and the venom that makes left-wing politics in this country possible.
Let's be real candid. These people are such elitists they don't care about working men and women in this country. They don't care about our middle class. They certainly object to the rule of the majority because that would mean that their elitist nonsense would be, would be playing somewhat back of the parade, and they couldn't stand that. To call people rednecks? Oh, I see. Name calling is fine if you're on the left. This is embarrassing to the whole country. But to even have impulses like those of Olbermann's and Garofalo on the airwaves, just left-wing lunacy.
No wonder, no wonder we're watching a major shift right now in public attitude and opinion on ideology in this country. It's sad to watch, it truly is. They should just take their medication and go away. They're unpersuaded by hope obviously, even audacious hope.
As my colleague Jeff Poor noted early Saturday morning, "It was Fox News against the world about tea party coverage, but CNN “Lou Dobbs Tonight” host showed he’s just as disgusted with some of the coverage as many conservatives are."

Obama's half WHITE!
April 18, 2009 - 11:35 ET by TailgunnerWhy must liberals automatically assume he's 'black' if he's also half 'white'?
No difference between today's liberals and those of yesterday's 'Jim Crow' era where even small amounts of black ancestry meant a person was considered 'black' and condemned to discrimination and terror.
The Nazis (National Socialists) pursued the same extreme policies in race purity and rooting out Judaism.
Garofalo epitimizes liberal racism.

Why must liberals
April 18, 2009 - 13:57 ET by mostlymoderateWhy must liberals automatically assume he's 'black' if he's also half 'white'?
Well, I think that's obvious. They wouldn't be able to use any of the affirmative advantages of being black, for example the "race card". Plus, this is probably how Obama was able to be admitted to Harvard so they want to stay consistent. Afterall, as we have learned in the last 100 days, Obama is not the brightest fella.
Maybe today being 'black' is an advantage...
April 18, 2009 - 19:52 ET by Tailgunner...but fifty years ago, with liberal (Democrat) racists in the South having the power to 'decide' who was white and who was 'black', the default position was if there was any significant part of 'black' ancestry, the person was branded as 'black'.
And often such a brand became a death sentence, carried out by these same liberal racists.
At a minimum blacks were disarmed, disenfranchised and lived in fear of night riders too cowardly to show their faces to those they were about to murder.
And today liberals still assume they have control over the futures of 'blacks' as they did in the Fifties and Sixties.
If you want to see real racism, watch how liberals treat conservative minorities.
You'd think you were reading letters from the KKK.

Obama Shmobama
April 18, 2009 - 15:48 ET by Kat Outta the BagWhile I realize some people who took part in the Tea Parties were obviously anti-Obama, Garafalo and much of the MSM is missing the fact that most of protesters were protesting against all politicians who do as they please and the tax payers be damned. And last time I looked, the vast majority of politicians are white!
But then trying to lead the likes of Garafalo and the MSM to facts is an exercise in futility, of course...
Funny...
April 18, 2009 - 17:09 ET by heldmywI also felt that the participants in the Tax Day Tea Parties were far more anti-huge-spending-taxing-and-socialism than anti-Obama.
True, his Porkulus and Bailout Debacle are the poster children for stupid spending, and for that he has rightfully earned some opprobrium, but the refusal to host politicians on the dais of these events was the real key.
The mid-term elections are not that far off, and I believe this movement will gain ground, supporters and coherence quickly.
It's time for the people to speak and ALL of the politicians to shut up and pay attention.

April 18, 2009 - 19:38 ET by reelman46Why is the modern liberal (secular socialist) such an unhappy angry fact-free person? It would be interesting to examine closely their childhood..something is wrong when reality and honesty always take a back seat to shallow personal smears.
Maybe Michael Savage had it right a few years ago...as far-fetched as it sounded to me then...I must say many of us are realizing that "liberalism is a mental disorder". It explains many many things as the years go by...and
its disturbing at a gut level. They ALL mean what they say and do...they are TRUE BELIEVERS...like UFO abductees...and how do you deal with that?

Dumb and Vicious Celebrity
April 18, 2009 - 12:05 ET by Kat Outta the BagIn Bernard Goldberg's book, "110 People Who Are Screwing Up America", he names Garafolo as a "Dumb and Vicious Celebrity" and gives this quote from her:
"Our country is founded on a sham; our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride."

Why isn't the homosexual community
April 18, 2009 - 12:38 ET by gregfaheyoutraged at her comments?
She is using the term "tea-bagging" in a derogatory sense. Imagine if she used the term "rimming" or "fellating" or "sodomizing"? Apparently it's OK to equate "tea-bagging" as something only "rednecks" do. Something akin to the movie "Deliverance". Imagine a conservative newsman using the term "tea-bagging" to describe perhaps a moment when Anderson Cooper was at a loss for words? Why the left would come unhinged saying it was homophobic and and they would probably have the person fired.
Double standard again for the left. I say "Amen!" to Lou Dobbs.

FWIW: Having once lived in NYC for a long time, back just when AIDS was making its debut, and knowing many homosexual men, some of whom died of AIDS, a name comes to mind for Garafolo, and why the homosexuals are so silent: fag hag.
Yes, that's a derogatory term.
But I heard it only from homosexual men, some who were definitely pro-men, as well as some homosexual men who were more kindly affectioned to women.
It described, according to them, women who hung around homosexual men, and avoided hetereosexual men.
Some even "dated" homosexual men. Some even claimed to have affairs with the homosexuals.
As for Anderson Cooper using the term "tea bagging"?
Could it be that it was on his mind, given what he and his male companion had engaged in recently?

April 18, 2009 - 13:38 ET by Andrew H.She is the mind of a fool. When she opens her mouth, it is clear she is suffering life. She is racist.Gerofalo actually assumes there could not possibly be any person of a different race than white who does not firmly believe it is a mistake to spend trillions adding to their children’s debt, adding to their own tax burden or causing runaway inflation—where because of government printing presses being operated overtime, currency will have less and less value. She is racist because she assumes all other races are too unintelligent to understand this fact. I—we—know better and we know that many people have been influenced by such garbage being expelled from her oral cavity that behaviors in the Congress and the White House are doing irreparable harm to this country. We are numb. We work and spend, raise our children and spend more—but we will have less to spend thanks to economic illiterates like Gerofalo. I’m sure she’ll be okay. She probably makes residuals from some bad movies and only has to feed herself and a cat—probably not two, but only one cat. MSNBC’s Olberman had her appear as a fellow scholar on his show to rant and lie. Why? I think the answer is that MSNBC and others are invested in the success of a socialist Whitehouse. Oh my, these liberals are really something.I am writing GE the owners of NBC and MSNBC to find out why the company desires to lose at least one customer. They have hired and retained Olberman, Matthews, and Maddow. They have a news staff trained by the left—that actually brings Gerofalo on air for this lie—this nonsense. I will only buy a GE product if there is nothing else at all, from any country, any make that will not work for my particular application. GE is responsible after all, for the people employed at the highest levels of these networks and apparently is happy with the work product. Let the company be happy. GE can be happy without my few dollars each year. I’m sure the company will do fine—without me. The current Chairman and CEO is Jeffrey Immett. Janeane Garofalo SNUBS Rush Limbaugh and Lynne Cheney
April 18, 2009 - 16:17 ET by Rush FanIn a recent interview with The Village Voice Janeane Garofalo says:
"Now, having said that, when Rush Limbaugh visited the set (on 24), and when Lynne Cheney visited the set, I refused to have my picture taken with them or meet them or anything. I didn't want to make a scene out of it and not even go meet them in front of people. When somebody came to me privately and said 'do you want to meet them', I said absolutely not."
By the way, it wasn't difficult to determine on which side of the political spectrum the Village Voice interviewer, Sam McPheeters, leans. Here is a sample of one of his questions
"You suffered unimaginable right-wing abuse and death-threats in 2003. Now you're on the cast of 24. Was there a quid pro quo for that? Like 'I went through all this, so here are my demands'?"

It's like they have no shame or guilt because they voted for a black man and have therefore absolved themselves completely from responsible behavior.
If it's not that, I just don't see how they can be completely BLIND to the hypocrisy and hate that is escalating on their part.
(And I single out obama supporters from ALL democrats because all democrats are not this insipid. This is purely the' Obama mob mentality.')
Re Rednecks
April 18, 2009 - 17:13 ET by slickwillie2001There's some irony there; current definition of redneck is as you wrote. One of the theories for the origin of the word goes back to the fight for unionization by coal miners in West Virginia. They wore red kerchiefs around their necks to distinguish themselves from the mining company guards and federal soldiers that they fought.
Rednecks according to this origin were in fact heroes, and especially should be, to today's liberals.
There's more to the "redneck" moniker.
April 18, 2009 - 18:04 ET by CKA in Red State USAOne source suggests that the origins of this term Redneck are Scottish and refer to supporters of the National Covenant and The Solemn League and Covenant, or "Covenanters," largely Lowland Presbyterians, many of whom would flee Scotland for Ulster (Northern Ireland) during persecutions by the British Crown.
The Covenanters of 1638 and 1641 signed the documents that stated that Scotland desired the Presbyterian form of church government and would not accept the Church of England as its official state church.
Many Covenanters signed in their own blood and wore red pieces of cloth around their necks as distinctive insignia; hence the term "Red neck", (rednecks) which became slang for a Scottish dissenter.Since many Ulster-Scottish settlers in America (especially the South) were Presbyterian, the term was applied to them, and then, later, their Southern descendants.
That same source also indicates that one of the earliest examples of its use comes from 1830, when an author noted that "red-neck" was a "name bestowed upon the Presbyterians."
And, yes, indeed, miners in the southern West Virginia coalfields, as well as those in eastern Kentucky and western Pennsylvania did wear red bandanas around their necks as a show of solidarity against the mine companies.
That occurred especially, I believe, during the West Virginia Coal Mine Wars in the late 1910s-early 1920s. The term used by miners as a differentiator certainly also extended into more contemporary American coal-mining history.
Also, there was a time, for political and/or social reasons, when certain farmers and farm workers through the South did not wear large wide-brimmed hats to protect themselves. With the narrow-brimmed hats, they got sunburned. Thus, red necks.
Also, during the 19th century in the South, landed gentry and others scoffed at the farmers and workers who had sunburned necks -- red necks -- from working in the fields.
That said, "redneck" has become a pejorative when used by most people, particularly liberals and leftists, including politicians, academicians and others, includig those in the advocacy/adversary media.
And, regrettably, it's used ignorantly to describe lots of people, in West Virginia and elsewhere, who do populate and have ancestral roots in the Southern Highlands of the Appalachian Mountains.
It's also used to insult those who the insulter may believe are less sophisticated or educated or traveled or whatever.
Me, even with advanced university degrees and professional certifications, I’m a redneck ancestrally and through coal mining. I have a drawer of red, black and blue bandanas, mostly red, that I still use for handerkerchiefs. Have done sor for decades.
But there was a time when I worked construction that I wore them. Even now many times while working outside.
Guess that also makes me a redneck right-wing extremist, or are those terms now synonymous?

Sounds like my ancestors. Well damn...I can't help it, I've got redneckism in my blood! LOL

Great post!
April 19, 2009 - 15:40 ET by doug1950I have always had a love of history and anything to do with the origins of groups of people. Interestingly, this group of people are the same ones who descended from the clans that scared the hell out of the Romans who conquered much of what today is Britain but they never could subdue the clans in Scotland. The Romans were fierce warriors until they ran into the Caledonians or Pics and found out there was someone who was not prone to being overrun or conquered. I would say this is a good bloodline to be descendent from and know now why all my mother's ancestors were such "ass kicking now and take names later" kind of folks. Definately the kind of people you want with you in a fight. The Scots were recognized world wide as some serious ass kickers during WWII too.
Great post!

I'm sorry, all "political
April 18, 2009 - 18:06 ET by mostlymoderateI'm sorry, all "political correctness" aside, Obama isn't even a real 'black person'. First, he's half white. Second, he is Kenyan and NOT African American (i.e. reparation-worthy). His ancestors did not overcome the trials and tribulations of true African-Americans. The left leaves this out. The left has no right to play the race card with Obama. Ever! I think of Obama more as a white person than a black person. Sorry, I do.
Grandmother........
April 18, 2009 - 18:34 ET by Kingfish17Didn't Obama say his Grandmother used to cross the street when she saw him coming?
He's black by the "one-drop" theory Hitler used to identify . .
April 18, 2009 - 19:52 ET by CKA in Red State USA. . . then segregate, imprison and then murder European and others Jews and/or descendants thereof.
Yep, so given that Obama's father-who-abandoned-him was Kenyan, Obama's definitely black.
But he is NOT what could be considered a hyphenated African American.
At best, he's bi-racial. But, then, given how he loathes those who are of Caucasian race, he never spoke of that half of him.
Like everything else in his existence, he exploited and continues to exploit his skin color.
Thing is, the black community has such low self esteem it keeps supporting this chameleon.
I am beginning to understand
April 18, 2009 - 22:14 ET by mostlymoderateI am beginning to understand why guys like Jesse Jackson didn't take a liking to Obama. Here is this half-Kenyan, over-privileged white dude from Hawaii that gets to take the credit as being the first "black president".

No wonder, no wonder we're
April 18, 2009 - 17:56 ET by bigtimerNo wonder, no wonder we're watching a major shift right now in public attitude and opinion on ideology in this country. It's sad to watch, it truly is. They should just take their medication and go away. They're unpersuaded by hope obviously, even audacious hope.
Lou put it all in a nutshell.
Thank you Dobbs...you are far kinder than I can be.

Garobarfo is the perfect
April 18, 2009 - 18:01 ET by mostlymoderateGarobarfo is the perfect example of self-loathing white person, self-loathing American, and a despicable person. She needs some shampoo too! Didn't the "grunge" look die with Kurt Cobain? This woman is so behind the times. What a wench.
Rednecks???
April 19, 2009 - 06:28 ET by Massage_Master07Actually, I'm Red, White and Blue. Red on the neck from working my ass off. White hair from the stress of listening to this B.S. from libtards in MOST media outlets who wouldn't know a hard day's work if it bit them on the ass. Blue for being a blue collar worker supporting my family and the families of liberals who pump out a child, IF they DIDN'T kill it before hand, every year or so.
She's got a lot of balls calling everyday WORKING people that are SICK AND TIRED of "our" government pissing money away while bailing out their Wall Street buddies.
I think I'll be just like her for a second... "The irony of it all is that she looks like someone who's mother and father were also brother and sister."
Ok, that's enough for now. My stomach's getting a little upset acting and being a racist like her. Talk to you all later on a different post.
Bravo Noel Sheppard for.....
April 19, 2009 - 06:38 ET by sbourg......relaying to us, this excellent analysis by Dobbs. And thank you Dobbs, for the airtime you used to smack-down the ridiculous Garofalo/Olberman nonsense.
I have one thing to add: It is interesting that Olberman/MSNBC would use THEIR airtime for this type of "defense" for Obama's spending/taxing policies. The Tea Parties are (I went to the DC event) double-edged -- against the crushing current spending and eventual crushing taxes of the current Congress/President. And the defense of Obama's policies by Olberman are ........to have Garofalo give a hateful, clueless rant. This is the intellectual firepower of Obama voters and their defense of his spending/tax policies for the economy? This is their defense? And THEY called GBush "stupid" ?
Countless times before he was elected
April 19, 2009 - 08:29 ET by ahusserI saw posted and posted myself that if the empty suit was elected that any opposition or criticism of him for any reason would be labeled as racist. This was as predictable as the sunrise and is no real surprise. I think shows like Olbermann, Maddow, Shuster et ilk are at the vanguard of attack media with a strong propaganda and political agenda, fomenting hatred and demonising their enemies which is us. They feel the gloves are off because their man is in office and deem it a mandate and can now freely spew their, illogical, emotional, irrational, hatefilled drivel It is an all out attack on conservatives and Goebbel's would be proud. This does not bode well for the Republic. I am a proponent of reasoned and logical debate but unfortunately reason and logic have a hard time standing up to this venom.

rant
April 20, 2009 - 11:26 ET by rowdygirlIt's just another example of left wing hatred. They only have tolerance for those who believe what they do. They can preach and yell about accpetance, but they have no idea what it means. To say that anyone who disagrees with Obama is a redneck racist is ridiculous. I don't like him, but it has nothing to do with his color. To be so full of hatred for people who disagree with you is scary. "THEY" are the people they're warning the rest of us about.
Garofalo shouldn't be allowed to keep spewing her lies and bias on the air. If there was a conservative doing the same thing, they would be labeled an extremist, and dangerous. Why is she being given special treatment? Oh, I forgot. Olbermann is an idiot.
