Huffington: 'I Would Not Have Posted' Article Asking Gore To Apologize

On Saturday, NewsBusters asked:

Did you ever in your wildest dreams imagine seeing an article at the liberal website the Huffington Post that not only refuted the anthropogenic global warming myth, but also asked Nobel Laureate Al Gore to apologize for the climate hysteria he's caused?

Apparently, neither could the website's founder, as Arianna Huffington has now gone on the record as saying, "It was an error in judgment" publishing Harold Ambler's "Mr. Gore: Apology Accepted." "I would not have posted it."

So reported the environmental blog Grist Wednesday:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Now, via email, Arianna Huffington clarifies:

Harold Ambler reached out to me about posting a critical piece on Al Gore and the environment. We are always open to posts that present opinions contrary to HuffPost's editorial view -- and have welcomed many conservative voices, such as David Frum, Tony Blankley, Michael Smerconish, Bob Barr, Joe Scarborough, Jim Talent, etc., to the site. We have featured also countless posts from the leading lights of the Green movement, including Robert Redford, Laurie David, Carl Pope, Van Jones, David Roberts, and many others -- and I myself have written extensively about the global warming crisis, and have been highly critical of those who refuse to acknowledge the overwhelming scientific evidence.

When Ambler sent his post, I forwarded it to one of our associate blog editors to evaluate, not having read it. I get literally hundreds of posts a week submitted like this and obviously can't read them all -- which is why we have an editorial process in place. The associate blog editor published the post. It was an error in judgment. I would not have posted it. Although HuffPost welcomes a vigorous debate on many subjects, I am a firm believer that there are not two sides to every issue, and that on some issues the jury is no longer out. The climate crisis is one of these issues.

Wow. So there AREN'T two sides to every issue.

That sure is a fine concept to be held by a journalist, dontcha think?

Alas, this isn't really a surprise, is it?

Poor Gore

If the current solar trends continue, it will soon be so cold, the snow piled so high, the ice frozen so deep, that everyone but Al Gore will know Al Gore is the village idiot.

HuffPuff will be amongst the last.

That's

...Al Gore the GLOBAL Village Idiot...

Why don't you post-off, Huffington

and have welcomed many conservative voices, such as David Frum, Tony Blankley, Michael Smerconish, Bob Barr, Joe Scarborough, Jim Talent, etc.,

This is why the woman who tuned her husband gay is such a mendacious slimeball.

Apart from Blankley these are McCainiacs, aren't they? And didn't Barr just run for President as the LIBERTARIAN candidate?

"The nature of an ideology is not determined by majority vote—but by logic... The logic of environmentalism leads to a society without technology... even if various environmentalists would deny this." Ayn Rand, 1971

Libertarians vs. Conservatives

People confuse them all the time, usually because they share similar fiscal policy.

The Emperor

Noel,

I've said it before on another thread, liberals are NEVER, EVER, E V E R wrong. At least in their own minds.

Unfortunately, when it comes to AGW this goes triple. AGW is their ticket to power, money, and control. They wil never let this one go willingly.

Fortunately, you can only call the sky Green for so long before someone shows you it's Blue. The Earth hasn't cooperated with the Alarmists/Warmalists and even the MSM is starting to see that the Emperor has no clothes.

Doc

2008: The year that the great LIE died.

How we know that they know that they are Lying.

Friedrich Nietzsche summed up how I feel about the MSM in this quote:

"I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on I can't believe you."

huff is a piece of work

I am an engineer, went through one of the toughest schools in the nation, did extremely well and consider myself a person that knows just a little bit about science.  I dont believe in global warming, think the underlying data is suspect, think that the assumptions made to calculate temps are suspect and think that recent news regarding how the earth is actually cooling places global warming in doubt.

And that b--- knows enough about science that she can sit there and be critical of me.

EDIT:  I dont mean to imply that I know everything, but isnt that the point of this whole mess?  Only the alarmists seem to believe that they do.

Long live the liberal elite.

The average earth

The average earth temperatures (a screwy notion to begin with) does rise and fall (as I am sure you know) cyclically. It's the "man made global warming we are all going to die" variety which drives us crazy. ;+}

For liberal Democrats and the MSM, everything is crisis, chaos and catastrophe. And only the government has the solution.

  In the AGW belief

In the AGW belief system, consensus can be declared if you have 60 scientists you can spin as being 2500 plus a majority of Hollywood high school dropouts and media pinheads. So says Gore, so it shall be done. If the UN is involved, well then that's just orgasmic to these folks. Good thing they are getting a long cold shower.

Looking at your list. The

Looking at your list. The number of college dropouts. Maybe things have changed since back during the Dark Ages when I was an undergraduate.

But it seemed most of my fellow class mates who dropped out did so during their first and second year. Especially the 1st year. It seems most of us who got to the third year finished.

During my first two years I was basically taking introductory courses. It wasn't till my third year that we started studying in depth.

I don't think  I even found out about the professional abstracts, the micro films, the documents room or rare books room till my 3rd year.

I suspect. Your list of college drop outs are those who only took introductory and general courses. And perhaps few of those.

The answer is  "I dont mean to imply that I know everything."

It is the attitude and willingness to admit we do not know everything. But I see it plenty from the lefties.

Change the "I" to "We,"  and you have one of the principals of being convervative.; a willingness to admit when we are wrong and a willingness to always be open to the truth.

Two sides?

Speaking of "two sides to every issue," Mr. Sheppard neglected to note that Huffington Post also published a piece by Grist staff writer David Roberts, co-written with climate scientist Andrew Dessler, calling attention to "gross factual errors about the science of climate change" in Harold Ambler's essay:

http://www.huffingto...

Roberts and Dessler observe that Ambler's piece is  "getting skeptics all twitterpated (again). These folks can't find a scientific journal with two hands and a flashlight, but nothing escapes their RSS feeds."

What a "disgraceful" thing to say, right Noel?

Nice drive-by posting.

Because, of course, the "science is settled," right?

In what arena other than the fantasy of anthropogenic global warming would such blinkered thinking apply?

The end of the article you referenced, AD, perpetuated the narcissism that "humans are now in the climatic drivers' seat, with the pedal to the metal. Maybe it's time we put our hands on the wheel."

The disgrace is in such reckless, myopic displays of intellectual hubris, cracking wise with all sorts of conclusions yet ignoring the bottom-line influence of (gasp!) the sun on our planet's temperature.

And the same lack-of-thought process that produces AGW effendi and their cult has given us Obama and his cult.  Often, their members enjoy dual citizenship.

The Usual

The usual garbage from the usual suspects. You don't have to go past the fourth word in the link provided by Noel to read Roberts and Dessler's drivel. Andrew Dessler makes the same laughable arguments that the alarmists and apologists continously embarrass themselves with, complete with contradictions and all. Of course, contradictions, hypocrisy and speaking out of both sides of your mouth are nothing new to Dessler.

There was a time when

There was a time when science involved testing a theory by making a prediction about future data and then observing the actual real world data to see how well it matched. The warmers have failed at this time and again. Yet those who made predictions based on a competing theory have seen the data match their theory nicely. Yet Alarmists call these people "deniers". Thus Alarmists can't be real scientists. Some of them might have managed to get a degree so they can use the title but they obviously don't practice it.

"The claim that the CO2 rise begins after the temperature rise is correct but misleading. The cause of the ice ages is well known: slight shifts in the Earth's orbit. Those shifts, however, are too weak to explain the full temperature swings seen during ice ages. That's where carbon dioxide comes in. It acts as a feedback, taking the small effects of orbital changes and turbocharging them into the enormous temperature swings observed in the historical record."

No orbital shifts and axis shifts are enough to explain the ice ages.

"While individual spectral lines do indeed saturate, adding more carbon dioxide pushes the level of saturation higher in the atmosphere -- leading to additional heating of the surface."

That makes no sense. If a wave length is absorbed at lower levels, it does not exist to be absorbed at higher levels.

"Evidence of this can be found on Venus, which has a surface temperature of 450°C -- hot enough to melt lead; hotter even than Mercury, which is closer to the sun. Why so hot? Venus has a thick, carbon-dioxide-rich atmosphere, which Mercury does not. If, as Mr. Ambler claims, carbon dioxide saturates, Venus' temperature ought to be lower than Earth's, owing to the thick sulfuric acid clouds that shroud the planet and reflect sunlight. It's not; Mr. Ambler does not know what he's talking about."

Based on this logic Mars should be hotter than Earth but it's not.

- Carbon Dioxide is 95.3% of the atmosphere of Mars (NASA)
- Average Temperature on Mars is -80°F (NASA)

- Carbon Dioxide is 0.038% of the atmosphere of Earth (NASA)
- Average Temperature on Earth is 57°F (NASA)

"To give Mr. Ambler some credit, this was the subject of legitimate scientific uncertainty ... in the first half of the twentieth century. However, careful spectroscopic measurements settled it about 50 years ago. There is indeed some overlap, but enough lines do not overlap that carbon dioxide is indeed an important greenhouse gas."

Atmospheric Absorption Bands

Yeah CO2 is a greenhouse gas over powered by water vapor across the board.

Twisted

Arianna Huffington is a malignant narcissist who goes wherever she can get the most attention. Be a republican? Sure, until people catch on that she's a flake and they reject her. Be a radical leftist? Sure, because people there like flakes; they are flakes and you need to be flake to fit in.

So Arianna has made millions off Huffington Post and has her stupid face splashed all over the MSM. Doesn't care about a couple of 180s in her life, doesn't care who she misleads and hurts.

What else matters to the drama-queen-diva-poser with no conscience, no morality? She is a sick human being.

You forgot one adjective.

Huffington is a "rich" drama-queen-diva-poser with no conscience and no morality.

Wealth, in the mind of liberals, is a qualification trump card, as we're learning yet again with the coronation, er, vetting of Caroline Kennedy.

Love these global warming alarmists

From David Robert's blog in response to Huff posting an honest piece [EMPHASIS MINE]:

The claim that the CO2 rise begins after the temperature rise is correct but misleading. [THANKS FOR NOTING THAT GORE WAS FULL OF CRAP IN HIS EXPLANATION OF THE INFAMOUS HOCKEY STICK GRAPH]

The cause of the ice ages is well known [NOPE: SOME BELIEVE ASTEROID, SOME BELIEVE VOLCANO ASH]: slight shifts in the Earth's orbit [A GUESS]. Those shifts, however, are too weak to explain the full temperature swings seen during ice ages [IF IT WAS WELL KNOWN, WHY DOESNT IT EXPLAIN EVERYTHING]. That's where carbon dioxide comes in [OH, SO YOU COULDNT EXPLAIN IT YET IT BEING "WELL KNOWN" AND NOW YOU GUESS THAT CO2 EXPLAINS IT]. It acts as a feedback [PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST IDIOTIC STATEMENTS], taking the small effects of orbital changes and turbocharging them into the enormous temperature swings observed in the historical record [NOPE and and IDIOTIC STATEMENT].

That's funny.....

as a 62 year old male, i have only seen 248 changes in the seasons.not really enough time to truly form a solid opinion about global warming. Other than thinking"who the hell do we think we are, assuming we can influence Mother Earth and her growing pains." After 4500 years i do know we have learned to be better stewards of Earth, more aware, not to pollute.

Mother Earths Polar Bears have grown in  number from 5,000 to over 25,000. The Arctic ice flow has grown, move about<because  it is an ice flow, not attached to anything. and if it moves too far South-IT MELTS. But the Bears deal with it and have enjoyed life, because there are more of them.

a$$holes like Gore, who no longer have the spotlight, must create an issue to gain the light back. and make money along the way.
