Obama-supporting actor Alec Baldwin was David Letterman's guest on CBS's "Late Show" Wednesday evening, and actually had nice things to say about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

As Letterman moved the discussion towards Baldwin's cameo appearance with Palin on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" a few weeks ago, the "30 Rock" star said, "She was lovely," and told Dave a delightful story about what she said when they first met:

She said to me, (imitating Palin) "'I've been talking to your (conservative) brother Stephen and we've been chatting, trying to figure out how to knock some sense into you."

Although the interview with Letterman did include some Bush, McCain, and Palin bashing -- what would you expect -- it did have some delightful moments that NewsBusters readers should enjoy (video embedded below the fold):

Saw it

Give credit where credit is due. He said that he opposed her politically, but he said nothing demeaning or offensive about Sarah Palin. He even complimented her.

I can live with that. He expressed disagreement, not hatred. Fine by me.

I think there's been a shift

Not long ago on Bill Maher's show he made a point to heap some blame on Democrats for the subprime lending crisis, and even pointed out Republican efforts to fix it.

I know a lot of people here think he's permanently damaged goods for his past political commentary and personal misdeeds. But I don't know. Maybe we're seeing someone who has been softened somewhat. Maybe its his trials or the influence of his brother.

No I don't expect him to wake up tomorrow and endorse McCain. And he may still, net net, be a total ass. But he did say he was basically suicidal at his worst. Maybe we're seeing someone who hit bottom and is looking upward for a change.

Bible Spice?

Alec Baldwin, for all his "nice" words about the Governor, is still a pig....no lipstick involved, either.

In his own words (19 seconds):  This man is qualified to be VP?

Good evening Blonde

A male chinese pig no doubt

No doubt, cocodrie

Did you notice his leering as he said Governor Palin was "beautiful"?

This from a man who was married to one of the most beautiful women in the world, and who disparaged his daughter in the most disgusting terms.

He's a pig all right.  Of the Liberal, North East variety.

Disgusting swine!

In his own words (19 seconds):  This man is qualified to be VP?

Blonde

I'm praying that enough people look through the doors opened by these whackos and actually see what these extremists want to do to this country.

Piggy

Blonde, have you seen the current TV Guide?  Alec is on the cover with Tina Fey, and he's openly peering down her cleavage.

I guess Sarah and Tina are both his "type"

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

A few nice words about

A few nice words about Sarah Palin is not going to change my opinion of Alec Baldwin.  Some of what has spewed from this guy's mouth in the past is completely brainless nonsense.  In fact, I would take a compliment from this guy as an insult.

is he still here..??

This fat tub of lib crap should've been frog marched onto a plane bound for anywhere the day after W raised his hand merely to enforce his own promise (never fulfilled *shock* *surprise*). This Baldwin brother is why foreigners don't understand the real America or our President.

I suspect his 'niceness' has more to do with his new TV show than anything else. If he trashes Gov. Palin in public he can kiss his show goodbye when the ratings tank. They probably will anyway, but at least folks will tune in to check it out now.

I was pleasantly surprised

I was pleasantly surprised by this until the end when he talk about "this acrimony and bitterness of the last 8 years".  I have never heard so much "acrimony and bitterness" spewed from the likes of Pelosi and especially Reid.  Democracts are just blind to this.

There is acrimony and

There is acrimony and bitterness if the right doesn't agree with the left, and harmony and love when they do.

It's only divisive if the right doesn't agree with the left, and inclusive when they do.

It's only Partisan Politics if the right doesn't agree with the left, and Bi-Partisan when they do.

Right policies are a failure if they don't cure everything.

Left Policies are a success if only one person is helped.

So the right should always submit to the left?

plz explain yourself!

in re-reading you post I get it.

Uh-Oh...Alex said let's call a spade a spade...where is the racism outcry from the msm...lol...after-all ...words matter.

The only acrimony that has been spewed for the last eight years has been caused by the leftist politicians with the msm as their bully-pulpit, including La-La-Land for the most part Alex...

As a whole...I do have to say I enjoyed the interview for a change when it comes to Baldwin....so I am glad for that and the laughs I had also watching this.

30 Rock's ratings must be

30 Rock's ratings must be tanking...Alec's resorting to drastic measures--sounding almost human!

But others here are right--he's shown who he is in very candid moments, and it ain't pretty.  Maybe one day he'll take a page from "Bible Spice's" book and realize how off-base he's been.  Until then, I have no time for him or his work.

I doubt Alec

...would be so magnanimous if his candidate  were trailing in the polls. These lefties are just so sure of themselves.

Hey MM...you are so right

Hey MM...you are so right here, never thought of that... point well taken.

obvious signs of your mispent youth (adulthood?)

Derka, derka, indeed.

I do see Baldwin in the part where he has to go on his knees and provide oral services. Suits him.

Are liberals honestly so naive

that they think people will magically "come together" if Obama wins?  Do they really think conservatives will be quick to join around the firepit and sing camp songs with the people who have called them knuckle-dragging, stupid, brain dead, etc ?

yes they are that naive but

yes they are that naive but they are also wrong.

Maybe he's somewhat OK

I wish he could use his star power for bringing both sides together as he suggests. Quite the difference from when Bush was running. So much hatred of Bush from the left. I used to really like Alec, then was really turned off by his lefty ways, but after watching him the other night on SNL, I was surprised to see him put his acting/comedy above his political views. Leave the politics to the politicians and the acting to the actors. He's been one of the leading Hollyweirdo's and has changed. Maybe he either likes McCain (not) or has a problem with Obama?

For Those of You at NewsBusters Praising Alec Baldwin

The following are quotes from Mr. Alec Baldwin:
Bush is a man done in as much by misplaced virility as he is by anti-intellectualism and the bitter resentments that are the hallmark of alcoholism, treated or otherwise.

Bush, the know-nothing, do-nothing, back-slapping frat boy....Bush's eight years in office have been a national (and international) nightmare.

One is that the bailout represents the second and final payment by the Bush administration to their benefactors. The war being the first.

Now Palin? Palin is Bush....Forget about the fact that Palin looks a lot like a really attractive TV star I know. Underneath all the Tina, she's George.

Meanwhile, Al Franken is everything you could hope for in a candidate to represent your state in the world's most august deliberative body. Smart, caring, brave.

But the shame and disgrace of how we have treated our own fighting men, not to mention many innocent people in Iraq, weighs more heavily on me now.

The GOP committed every possible sin in order to get Bush elected. They forged a whole set of new ones to get him reelected. Everyone around the world recognizes that America is in real trouble. Most Americans do, too. The past eight years have been the moral low point of the American experience.

Do you need more proof that Alec Baldwin has no empathy or understanding for anyone, including Gov. Palin, who is on the rightside of the aisle?

The most important change we can make is to vote out the Democrats and RINOs in Congress!

Hey Rush Fan

Thanks for the reality check.

Al Franken is everything you could hope for...

Since Congress is presently just a bunch of clowns it is our honor here in The Peoples Republic of Minnesota to send an appropriate representative to the Senate. After he wins I intend to send him a fresh pair of the big shoes and a new red nose thingy.

wizard... Getting pretty

wizard...

Getting pretty spooky when we may get the likes of Franken in the Senate....you better save a set of the same things you are going to send to him if Matthews runs and gets in too...

It is hard enough to watch the Senate as it is at times...with these guys that may be coming in...I just don't think I could do it much more.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

Why bother sending

Why bother sending shoes.Just send Bozo himself.

Baldwin made some observations

Alec Baldwin made some interesting observations.  He said that, should his candidate lose, we have to find a way to come together as a country, not like we have been for the last 8 years. Think about that, he recognizes that, for the past 8 years, we haven't been together.  I don't expect Alec to get too deep into the why's and wherefore's of that statement, but he does realize that we can't continue on like this.  Now, that's a plus.

Secondly, Alec didn't demonize Sarah Palin.  He did, in his own way, throw a couple of shots at her and  her religious beliefs, however I doubt he understands what they are, he only threw them at what he believed they were.

McCain's campaign has handled this all wrong, as far as Sarah Palin is concerned.  Had they thrown her out there onto all the shows, and thrown in some Fox Channel stuff which included more than Hannity, they might be in a better position.

They could just luck out but, if they do, it will be more Palin than McCain.
