As reported Saturday, the Republican oil revolt in the House last week didn't get a lot of media attention despite America's angst over rising energy prices.
NewsBusters has just learned Republicans will resume their demonstration Monday even though the summer recess has officially started.
Will such a bold move garner more press attention as the revolt moves into the second inning?
While you ponder, the following press release was issued by House Minority Leader John Boehner moments ago (picture courtesy Fox News):
Washington, Aug 3 - House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence.
In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (“A Call to Action on American Energy”), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Friday’s action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going.
“It’s not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering,” Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. “The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We’ve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.”
“We realize not everyone can be in Washington next week. But if you can be, we ask that you come to the Capitol, join our colleagues, and lend your voice, beginning this Monday at 10:00 am,” the GOP leaders wrote. “If you can’t be in Washington, we ask that you contribute to the cause in other ways – such as spreading the word among your constituents, writing an op-ed for your local newspaper, or taking our ‘all of the above’ energy message to your local airwaves.”
“Republicans stand with the American people. We share their passion and determination for energy independence, and we’ve pledged to fight boldly until Congress heeds their will,” Boehner and Blunt concluded.

This effort has been diminished as a "tactic" or a "stunt," but there is power and hope in what the republicans are doing now. I've been down on the Republican party for some time now, but this is progress--they deserve our support. This could illuminate the power of the eco-corporate forces that own the democratic party. Pelosi is ignoring the overwelming majority of the people, and kow towing to her ecomasters.
She is making the rounds of the networks now, promoting her disastrous book, and trying to leave the drilling issue behind her.
We have met the "new politics," it is the same as the old politics. Pelosi began her position as speaker by promising lower gas prices, and now that she has failed, she is blaming "oilmen" and Bush. But she is just a power hog living on the radical ecocorporate's dime.
They plan to make a fortune when gas goes to $7-8 a gallon. This is just another manifestation of a multipronged attack under the guise of "global warming" that will force us to buy all their ecojunk. Do you ever wonder why the big corporations are reinforcing the idea of global warming in their commercials? it is because there are trillions in profits down that road.
Here's the truth: all the oilment in America don't have as much power as the ecocorporates, and this last session of Congress proved it.
Call your House representative, and tell them that you will base your vote on who shows up on Monday at the House to support drilling.
Let us be the ones to speak truth to power for once.

I was once a proud Republican but the last 8 years turned me from them. Again, they became Democrats and lost me and a whole hell of a lot of conservatives. To make matters worse, they gave us McCain as a candidate.

Culberson's twitter page, Bush can't force the House to re-convene since the Senate is having "pro forma" sessions (which last all of 5 minutes) and that is technically "in session" - it's a very dirty trick on the part of the Democrats.
I say the Republican Senators need to go to the pro forma sessions and demand that Congress reconvene.
And let those honorable patriots in the House know you care. This kind of stuff is making me ready to go back into the leftist-infested NJ GOP.
