According to Him -- meaning the amazingly pompous and holier-than-thou rockstar Sting -- the world is coming to an end if we don't stop global warming.
Yet, the self-described "environmentalist" bassplayer for the rock band the Police continues to symbolize the hypocrisy of wealthy liberal elites that tell us we have to make sacrifices for the good of the planet...as long as they don't have to!
In the most recent incident, the man who in 2005 arrogantly stated, "I think we need to convince Mr. Bush that global warming is in fact a reality" flew from England to Germany, in a private jet with a seating capacity of fourteen, BY HIMSELF!
I guess his concerts and convenience are FAR MORE important than the planet...as reported by the Daily Mail Monday evening (emphasis added, h/t NBer mastersofdeceit):
The Police front man, who has long been a campaigner on environmental issues, was spotted disembarking from the plane alone at Leipzig airport. He was then bussed into the city centre to perform with the rest of the band on Saturday. [...]
A spokesman for Leipzig airport who was there when Sting arrived said: 'We can confirm Sting was the only passenger on board the Falcon 2000 aircraft.'
I guess his wife is right about them being hypocrites concerning global warming...yuh think?

This two-faced "celebrity" is so full of himself that he actually believes we really give a hoot what he tells us we should or shouldn't do. I look back at how real celebrities used to love their country (think John Wayne) and served their country in time of war and then I look at these "wannabes" and all I see are a bunch of LOSERS! Believe me, their words slide right off my back!
The arrogance of them all leaves me wondering just where our world is heading - sad to say, toooooo many actually do believe what they say (as they are doing just the opposite!) Seems it doesn't matter if they live in America or Britain - the "do as I say, not as I do" syndrome rules in the celebrity world.

Then, getting on board in bad weather, waiting 3 hours on the taxiway until it's your turn to take off, and the pilot then announcing he has to go back to get more fuel and another hour delay. And arriving at the destination and discovering your luggage really didn't make it on the plane after standing at the carausel for an hour, and another hour in the claims office line. Then having it show up at your hotel 2 days later -- damaged, of course. Not that this has ever happened to me ... I'm just saying...

@Unsane
July 1, 2008 - 01:36 ET by geoff.galeBeg to differ, but on a technical level, Les Claypool from Primus is much more adept than Geddy Lee. As far as being a musician, Jaco Pastorius left Geddy in his dust, as he did with most other bass players. Honourable mentions to Ron Carter, Rick Laird, and Paul Denman.

geoff, last I saw of Claypool, Primus was opening for Rush.
July 1, 2008 - 01:52 ET by R D HelmSorry.
Besides, Geddy Lee can play two instruments at the same time (sometimes even three), PLUS do the required vocals (live on stage, too).
Not only that, but Les has named Geddy Lee as one of his most important influences.
What say you?
PS-And no, I am not dissing Les here, either. Great bassist he is, but Geddy Lee he ain't.

Claypool et all
July 1, 2008 - 15:36 ET by geoff.galeGeddy opened doors in the bass pop world to be sure. Doors that had already been opened in the jazz world by Ron Carter and Rick Laird. Jaco Pastorius preceded Geddy by just a bit and really brought the art of advanced bass playing much farther than Geddy Lee did.
My comment was that Claypool is a better technician on the instrument than is Lee - not necessarily a better showman. He took what Lee started and moved it forward. In no way derogatory of Geddy Lee just recognition that a student of his style surpassed his level of technical proficiency.
My top 10?
Yeah, I admit that jazz guys dominate the list; in part because they generally have a better grasp of music theory, chording and structure; in part because the type of music they play leaves greater room for improvisation and creativity; and in part because I'm a purist bass player of 45 years.
Both Les and Geddy are just too pop/commercial for my tastes. Good players though - along with a lot of other players like John Paul Jones, Roger Waters, Billy Sheehan, Bobby Sheehan, Jack Cassady, Jack Bruce, Noel Redding, John Entwhistle, Michael Balzary (Flea), Marcus Miller, Donald 'Duck' Dunn, Carl Radle, Rick Grech etc.

Snakes & Arrows tour..I came, I saw, I yawned
July 2, 2008 - 22:22 ET by jefflebowskiI am a Rush fan but I lost contact with the band after the Hemispheres album. I actually met them after a concert in '79 in Greensboro, NC while I was in high school.
There are two songs that I never want to hear again...and both of them are Tom Sawyer! Radio killed that song. Anyway, took both of my boys to see Rush last summer. My 16 year old is a drummer and huge Neil fan. But we all agreed that Snakes & Arrows just isn't up to par. Rush has moved away from that Rush sound with different time signatures. I guess everything changes. I kept waiting for them to break into a Cygnus-X1 or Hemispheres but they must have played every song on the new album.
Anyway, I am sure some Rush fans like the new stuff but give me 2112 anyday!
