Bill Clinton's hysterical response to Todd S. Purdum's Vanity Fair exposé hit a fevered pitch on the campaign trail Monday when the former president called the author "sleazy," "dishonest," "slimy," and a "scumbag"
Even better, he blamed the whole article on "the national media's attempt to nail Hillary for Obama."
This followed a statement revealed by FoxNews.com Sunday from the Office of the former president claiming the Vanity Fair piece to be "journalism of personal destruction at its worst," as previously reported by NewsBusters' Tim Graham.
Clearly, Clinton hadn't cooled off by Monday, for at a campaign stop for his wife in Milbank, South Dakota, the former president went on a bit of a tirade after being asked about the Vanity Fair piece by the Huffington Post's Mayhill Fowler (must-hear audio available here, emphasis added throughout, picture courtesy Huffington Post):
Tightly gripping this reporter's hand and refusing to let go, Clinton heatedly denounced the writer, who is currently married to former Clinton White House Press Secretary, Dee Dee Myers.
"[He's] sleazy," he said referring to Purdum. "He's a really dishonest reporter. And one of our guys talked to him . . . And I haven't read [the article]. But he told me there's five or six just blatant lies in there. But he's a real slimy guy," the former president said.
When I reminded him that Purdum was married to his former press spokesperson Myers, Clinton was undeterred.
"That's all right-- he's still a scumbag," Clinton said. " Let me tell ya-- he's one of the guys -- he's one of the guys that propagated all those lies about Whitewater to Kenneth Starr. He's just a dishonest guy-- can't help it."
Some classy prose from a former president, wouldn't you agree? Better still was Clinton blaming this all on the media's love affair with Obama:
You know he didn't use a single name, cite a single source in all those things he said. It's just slimy. It's part of the national media's attempt to nail Hillary for Obama. It's just the most biased press coverage in history. It's another way of helping Obama. They had all these people standing up in this church cheering, calling Hillary a white racist, and he didn't do anything about it. The first day he said 'Ah, ah, ah well.' Because that's what they do-- he gets other people to slime her. So then they saw the movie they thought this is a great ad for John McCain-- maybe I better quit the church. It's all politics. It's all about the bias of the media for Obama. Don't think anything about it.
Saving the best for last, the former president made the case that folks at the Media Research Center and NewsBusters have been claiming for years:
Anytime you read a story that slimes a public figure with anonymous quotes, it oughta make the bells go off in your head. Because anytime somebody uses those things-- he wrote the story in his head in advance, and he just goes around and tries to find some coward to say whatever they want to say, hoping to get some benefit out of it.
We couldn't have said it any better, Mr. President. Thank you, and goodnight.

I have to assume he was looking in the mirror when he said all these things. Congratulations, Slick Willie, recognition of the problem is the first step to treatment.

Welcome To Our World, Mr. Clinton
June 2, 2008 - 23:24 ET by zeestephenBill Clinton says: "It's just the most biased press coverage in history."
No, Bill - it's exactly the same press coverage Republicans and Conservatives have received for the last 40 years.
It just feels different, because it's directed at you and Hillary.

Sleazy, dishonest, slimy, scumbag?
June 2, 2008 - 23:28 ET by jefflebowskiNo, it's just too easy!
Raise your hand if you're not enjoying every single minute of the left's abandonment of the Clintoons!! Who woulda thunk it a year ago that the lib MSM would turn on Bill and Hitlery? Bwa-ha-ha-ha!!!
I SAID THIS BEFORE...
June 3, 2008 - 02:00 ET by danybhoy...but I must again mention that Jim Quinn(of Quinn & Rose & "The Warroom") seems to have nailed it when he thought that if the MSM could go where they wanted to with someone other then the Clintons, they would throw them under the bus. The Clintons were never very nice to the MSM, despite their covering for them for the last 15 years, & when they saw the chance to ditch them for somthing new, fresh, & exciting, they did. Obama is the MSM's new thing, hell or high water. The way things have been going for Obama lately, they might get hell & high water. I hope so.
If you see this Quinn, great job!! GO PENS GO!!!

Heal us, Barry. We're divided and it seems to be getting hotter and hotter every week (although maybe it's just that time of year).
Don't hold your breath waiting for McCain or Hillary to get that kind of adoring treatment. For those two they pick the most poorly lit and unflattering angle possible.

Sleazy & Slimy
June 3, 2008 - 02:46 ET by harry flashmanWait - I'm confused - Bill Clinton is calling someone/something else sleazy and slimy?
Christmas, New Years, Easter and all the other holidays have come at once.
Bill came to Silicon Valley once when I was living there - I fingered his motorcade and kept my girl behind me.
Nanny Pelosi, Anna Eshoo and the rest of the ESS-EFF concubines welcomed hin with open legs - err, arms - call that a "misundersetimation" or a "stategery" mistake.
Either way - "Mission Accomplished."
75%?
June 3, 2008 - 04:07 ET by JWFHalf of this country see the media bias. The Republican half.
The Democrat half is split fairly evenly between the Messiah and The Clintons.
Now the Clinton half of the Democrats is starting to see the light.
We are getting up to 75%. The MSM's audience is shrinking every day.

You Can See It?
June 3, 2008 - 08:57 ET by JoelCTBill, if you can see the bias now, then I know you saw it in 1992. How many times did the MSM show us "Read My Lips"? How many times did the MSM show us "Potatoe"? How many Democrat politicians did we see every night on the MSM telling us how rotten the economy was, even though it wasn't? How many times did the MSM tell us that you weren't a skirt-chaser, Bill?
Guess what, Mr. President? 2008 is now 1992 all over again, and your WIFE has now spelled "potato" with an "e"! How does it feel? How does it feel to watch Wolf Blitzer practically demand that your WIFE "quit" the campaign? How does it feel to watch the MSM go after your wife night after night, saying she is going to "ruin" the election for the Democrats? How does it feel to watch your wife's opponent commit mistake after mistake, and never see those mistakes shown on the MSM?
How does it feel, Mr. President? Please tell us.

Today He's A Scum Bag
June 3, 2008 - 09:14 ET by Gat New YorkToday Purdum is a scumbag but apparently he was not when Clinton was in office.
I heard over the radio that Clinton personally approved of Purdum for an article when he was in office and the article was very favorable. I am going to try and search for that article.
Purdum is also married to Deedee Meyers.
I can see Dee Dee,

Dee Dee is the one I have always wanted to see "come clean" with a memoir. Really tell the truth; just let loose. I'm sure President Skirt-Chaser hit on her a LOT. I'll bet she could tell some awesome stories!
I agree, but

(Seriously.)
Your choice of verbiage, Bill, is priceless.
"Sleazy": Using the Oval Office as if it were an hourly-rate motel qualifies.
"Dishonest": Purgery and obstruction of justice come to mind.
"Slimy": Wasn't there a dress that didn't quite make it to the dry cleaners? Didn't Stanley Steemer have to call in extra help to clean the Oval Office carpet?
And, of course, "scumbag": Do we have to get into a literal definition of this word? Because, evidently, you're not a fan of them...
