NBC Double Standard: Today Show Aired Antiwar Ad by MoveOn.org

As NewsBusters reported Friday, television network NBC has decided not to run ads thanking and supporting America's troops stationed overseas during the holidays.

*****Update: Drudge is reporting that NBC has capitulated due to "pressure from outraged viewers." Stay tuned...

The sticking point according to NBC's head of standards and policies Alan Wurtzel was that Freedom's Watch "insisted that the spot contain the URL address of its Web site."

Yet, such didn't seem to be a problem a few years ago when MoveOn.org created an antiwar ad entitled "How Many More" that, according to the organization's website, ran during NBC's "Today" show (video available here, h/t NB reader Blair Lovern):

When we gave the media our new TV ad, they ran it during the news segments on Good Morning America and The Today Show-those shows are viewed by millions. Now, in order to make sure this moment isn't forgotten, we need to repeatedly play the ad on TV screens across America. Will you make a contribution to help make that happen? This is a critical time to be getting the message out about Iraq and MoveOn.org Political Action is entirely member funded. Together we can make a big difference.

Now, this ad in question doesn't show the URL for MoveOn per se. However, as it addresses IN WRITING the organization as MoveOn.org, that INDEED IS the group's URL.

Convenient loophole or double standard?

Convenient loophole AND

Convenient loophole AND double standard.

A Double Standard At NBC?????

You can't be serious.  I'm sure Matthews and Olbermann will be all over this.  After all, if NBC is nothing, it's fair and balanced, isn't it?  I can't hear you. NBC is a disgrace to General Electric; and I will continue to point out that expressing outrage just to NBC is of no value. The important places to go are to their Corporate Ombudsman; their Investor Relations, and most importantly to their Board of Directors.  If this act, by NBC, really has you pissed off, then taking a few minutes to let them know about it is time well spent.  Way too often, GE is left off the hook for the stupidity of NBC Management. And keep in mind, while NBC is pissing all over our troops at Christmas, GE is happy to cash the government checks for all of the military equipment they sell them.  Talk about a double standard.

What loophle?

Am I missing something? At the end of the add in the print at the bottome is a web address for moveon.org's political.moveon.org. This should be a huge field day for conservatives, they should bring it up relentlessly.

Democrats, "Do as I say, not as I do."

Liberal is as Liberal does

no need for a loophole

It's an outright double standard and it shows you where their loyalty lies. MoveOn.org is a caring, compassionate group while those pesky conservative groups are too political.

Combine that with their inclusion of Al Gore during Green Week, their AGW and 9/11 lessons on My Name is Earl, and their courtship with Rosie O'Donnell, it's pretty clear the kind of thinking they want to promote.

I'm officially boycotting GE and urging my family to do the same.

PS - As to 2,000 soldiers dead in Iraq (don't me wrong that's a big loss) I'm slightly more annoyed by the fact that more babies than that die on a daily basis from abortion.

Sad thing is we sit here

Sad thing is we sit here recognize, discuss and despise the double standard, but what can we really do to change it?  The liberal MSM steam-roller just keeps moving ahead showing no signs of slowing down.

What can we do?

Stop watching NBC, MSNBC and CNBC and tell all your freinds and family to stop watching and why. Make and issue of it and be vocal about it so that NBC knows EXACTLY why their ratings are falling even further. Maybe they will re-think their double standards. I doubt it, but you never know.

Needless to say, I haven't

Needless to say, I haven't in some time.  I think all of us here can say that, but with 50% (guestimated number) of the population being dem/liberal, they will always have their 'target group' and hence don't give a damn if they are hypocitical or have double standards.  Sickening, truly sickening.

Double standard? No, they

Double standard? No, they would never do anything to promote the troops.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

I Wonder As Well...

if NBC ran the recent ad from the Center for American Progress, the John Podesta-run Hillary front group?

Just my $0.02

Proud as a Peacock?

The early Christian church saw the peacock as a symbol of vanity-nothingness. It would strut showing off its beauty but was good for nothing, useless. Does this symbolisim equate to NBC and its step-children?

Anyone that still had

Anyone that still had doubts about whether the MSM is INSANELY LIBERALLY BIASED should have all the proof they need after this incident.

Jerk Store Called...

NBC's head of standards and policies Alan Wurtzel ...?!?!

I think I saw that guy on Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs series.

The liberal Lionel was on

The liberal Lionel was on Fox this morning defending NBC, touting the very thing that is being claimed as the reason they wouldn't run it, that being that the freedom watch website was on it.

Oh well, good try Lionel. Back to your train set.

All this as they fall like

All this as they fall like the New York Times. Birds of a feather.

I have been following this

I have been following this whole bunch of false BS from NBC from the beginning with the ad they refused to show...

I have seen it numerous times before it was made a big deal and thought ...yes thank you, liked the ad and moved on with everyday things, then I hear about NBC and their obvious agenda refusing to show this because of the web address...I immediately thought back thinking if I had more time I would research this because I just know this has to be complete total bunk and hypocrisy, especially with Moveon. anyway, I heard BOR last night saying they were going to look into this also...so glad this was going to be done and NBC made the hypocritical fool they are once again....

Now I see above with the update that this has been done!

Good work to all Americans involved with not letting this leftist nut-root network get away with this ....job well done.

Scary

What scares me the most about all this is all the tentacles that exist out there from NBC. Specifically the History channel, military history channel, etc etc. I notice more and more stupid references to AGW from the more science related shows. One Org having this much control on so much media, and we all know there SO balenced...NOT! What else out there is being twisted to promote an agenda? This event of them not playing the pro-military ad is just so blatent that any idiot will understand whats going on. Especially now that its been reveiled that there playing the other sides ads, as they always have been. Sad and Scary all at once.
