Is the press beginning to see through Al Gore's global warming scam?
A brief article posted at Newsweek's website offers hope that the media might finally be recognizing the former Vice President could be this decade's Ken Lay.
For those that have forgotten, Lay was the CEO of Enron (h/t NBer well99, emphasis added):
Since 2000, according to published reports, the former veep has transformed himself from a public servant with around $1 million in the bank to a sparkling private consultant with a net worth estimated to be north of $100 million. He's a senior adviser to Google, a board member at Apple and now a newly minted general partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the Silicon Valley venture-capital firm that made billions investing early in Netscape, Amazon and Google.
Gore has pledged to hand over his KP "salary" to Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit he chairs. But the gift is more symbolic than material. Gore's salary-his cut of the 2 percent "management fee" that KP partners get on all investments-is typically a sliver of the total compensation that VCs receive. If Gore's profit-sharing deal is anything like the firm's other 23 partners, he's also in line to collect tens of millions of dollars a year. That's because partners carve up 30 percent of the profits if and when the alternative-energy start-ups that KP supports go public or are sold. (Kleiner Perkins declined to comment on Gore's compensation, but his communications director, Kalee Kreider, confirmed that he plans to donate only his "guaranteed income" to charity.) Should Gore's prospecting unearth a clean-energy gold mine the size of Google-which earned billions for KP partners-his share of the loot could make him U.S. history's richest ex-veep.
Granted, this is just a blurb at Newsweek's website.
However, at some point, journalists have to start exploring the wealth that Gore is creating for himself while he tells regular citizens to walk to work in order to save the planet.
Is this the beginning?

A few in the media have noticed the scientific outcry and are starting to hedge their bets so they can claim themselves the first whistleblowers. Let us hope this picks up a bandwagon.

This link I am providing below is hilarious. The first part of the article is about some Australian eco type who wants to establish "Geothermia". The Second part of the article is a fictious diary about Geothermia. Astralian humor but absolutely hillarious.

November 20, 2007 - 01:26 ET by alamojbprofessor truth,
I saw your wiki article. Funny thing is, there is just one little problem. Your scientists have not even been using reliable measuring devices. There is a survey currently going on of the nations weather stations and the finding are horrible. All kinds of bogus micro-climate heat is being added to the temps ranging from cars parked next to thermometers to the hot end of AC's blowing on them, as well as things like concrete having enroached on them over the years.
How do we know the scientist have not taken this into account? Because the survey is STILL BEING DONE! The intial results are quite damning of any real belief that we have been properly measuring temps in the U.S.
Who knows what they will find if they ever get around to doing this on an international scale.
Here is the website of the organization doing the survey:
http://www.surfacestations.org/odd_sites.htm
Here is a recent interview with the site manager where some interesting statistics are revealed about what they have found so far:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=58767
and one of Noel's recent articles:

I would think if you are really a science teacher you would understand the importance of having accurate measurements.

I strongly suggest you look at the sites I linked to above and ask yourself how much of the warming is real versus how much has been induced by sloppy measuring techniques.
climate in a lab
November 20, 2007 - 07:28 ET by Agnostic"When I do a lab that fails...,"
While I'm not questioning the existence of failing labs and the validity of the associated procedures I would like to point out that in todays political argument about anything scientific that a "lab that fails" has the appearance of a "lab that didn't come up with the results I expect".
Pare away special intrest groups, lobbyist, Gore's propaganda, $$$ for grants, vocal and uninformed media, politics and pressure from foreign anti-capitalist (UN) and maybe, just maybe, we as a general public could get some actual facts that would help us make an accurate assessment. Until then I don't plan on wasting one dime on a one degree increase over a 100 years considering the history (one fact that is a little harder to gloss over) shows the earth in near constant climatic change. And I may be wrong but I would guess that a static climate would be most likely associated to an atmosphere on a dying or dead planet.
but when there are multiple lines of evidence
November 20, 2007 - 15:59 ET by professor truththe AGW case becomes much more certain. I agree that measuring is a serious challenge but we need to start somewhere, and then make adjustments when better measurment methods become available. I can measure temperature using a thermometer or a probe or indirectly by measuring the rate of a chemical change which is also temperature dependent. If all these methods show the same trends, I have more confidence in my idea.

As for Position Papers from the scientific organizations listed in Wikipedia:
"...we often hear how the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) have issued statements endorsing the so-called "consensus" view that man is driving global warming. But what you don't hear is that both the NAS and AMS never allowed member scientists to vote on these climate statements. Another Computer Illiterate
November 20, 2007 - 23:26 ET by PopularTechI take it you are not only Scientifically illiterate but you prove it by being Computer Illiterate as well. Since only Computer Illiterates believe in AGW:
All the computer illiterates are convinced that because something is done on a "super computer" that costs "millions of dollars" it is infallible. Plugging in biased, incomplete or flat out wrong data combined with poorly understood systems into a "model" that includes god knows how many guesses and assumptions will give you junk. Garbage in = Garbage out. I am a computer analyst and can make a computer model do whatever I want by "tuning" it (adjusting variables until I get the answer I want or think is right). The more complex the model the more "mysterious" it seems. Processing more complex data in more complex ways via guessing gives you more complex junk results. But since the models have been "tuned" (guesstimated or deliberately altered to get the results you want) they get results that "seem" likely, except it is based on a complex serious of junk calculations and data.
The problem is computer models need exact information (accurate data and the correct procedure to process the data) to get exact answers, without that you get junk results, period. The public gives computer climate models this mystical aura because they are largely computer illiterate about how they actually work and when they hear the term "computer" they do not want to sound or feel stupid, so they nod their heads and go along with it.
Nothing is emotional about computers they are pure logical machines, 1 + 1 must = 2. Imagine trying to use random numbers to get a right answer on a calculator but you do not know if you are to add or multiply those numbers and you have no way to confirm that "right answer" except to wait 50-100 years. Sound crazy? Welcome to Global Climate Modeling.
What the modelers do is they keep playing with the numbers in a much more complex way until they think they guess right. A useless exercise. These same climate models computers are used to predict your weather and you know how accurate they are. But damn! Al Gore and Gavin Schmidt can certainly tell your what the climate will be 50-100 years from now! Give me a break.
Why are we not turning to models to predict the future for everything? Because they can't, not even remotely. Some of them work "sort of" for the weather in very, very short term results (1-3 days) until all the data they are processing that is wrong combined with all the data they are missing and the millions of variables they are not accounting for start to kick in and grow exponentially the farther out the model runs and wham - the model is wrong. No kidding.
You are expected to believe that they can "model" the climate 50-100 years in the future when they cannot even give you accurate weather 3 days out? Don't be fools, I do this for a living, Computer Models cannot predict the future with anything as complex as the Earth's climate.

Please prove to me using the scientific method and not computer models that Man-Made CO2 is driving climate change.

Go find this talking point, LK. Warning, I think you will be spending a long, long time before you find it. It's called being a critical thinker, not a denialist thinker. Try it sometime.
professor...getting a little testy
November 21, 2007 - 11:05 ET by LionKingThe cat is out of the bag and you doth protest too much, methinks.
I do not do original climate research. I have done quite a bit of statistical analysis and modeling in my career. As a college student, I dealt with a liberal professor doing his number manipulation for his thesis. I had to keep changing the model until it supported his POV. It was actually very sad. I am sure it was peer reviewed and since they all do it, they turned a collective blind-eye.
As for AGW, the data used to model is unreliable and not comprehensive enough to accurately predict anything. Do you remember the AGW alarmists predicting a horrific hurricane season last year as well as this year...oops.
This sniff-test applied to AGW and the result is...it stinks.
Don't confuse the hurricane
November 21, 2007 - 11:37 ET by NL207Don't confuse the hurricane forecasting models with global climate models. The two are not the same and do not share the same objectives.
The hurricane forecasters at least realize the limitations of the models they use and have some humility about theior predictions. They don't always get it right and freely admit this. Most of them do not buy the AGW hypothesis and I believe their familiarity with the limitations of models causes them to discount the climate models.
The climate modelers have no such humility. Their predictions are based on their models and their hubris is so great that it knows almost no limits. Look at the brash predictions they are making and look too at their total lack of shame when they are wrong.
thanks NL

November 21, 2007 - 11:03 ET by LionKingSpeaking of models, you have never answered why the AGW models that predicted massive hurricane season the past 2 years failed.
Also, professor, how can you attest to the accuracy of the data from 80 to 100 years ago. What if that data is flawed? Doesn't that make the model flawed?
[Scientifically speaking, you seem to be the illiterate one. You are not well-read and extremely close-minded...not the typical traits of a scientist.]

professor...still ducking this question
November 21, 2007 - 16:46 ET by LionKingROTFLMAO...still cannot find an answer from your list of talking points?
LK , I'll try to answer
November 21, 2007 - 17:17 ET by professor truthYou are right about hurricanes. Apparently, wind shear conditions that develop in the atmosphere have the effect of diminishing hurricanes. I guess hurricane experts like Chris Lansea or Kerry Emmanuel would be much more capable of answering. According to Emmanuel, the prediction is for increased INTENSITY, but not necessarily more hurricanes. Climate is complicated. The warmer the ocean, the more energy the hurricane can get as it travels over water.
2)As for flawed climate data, if there were just a single source for the data, I might agree. I think there are multiple, independent sources for the historical data. Anyways, Hansen's model has accurately tracked temperature for twenty years and I call that a success. There's no reason to think his futre predictions would be wrong but time will tell. Basic physics states that a doubling of CO2 will produce a 2 to 3 degree C temp rise(4 to 6 F, approx). Also , what if the model UNDERSTATES the warming, then the results will be worse.
Scientifically, I'm the illiterate one? How much astronomy, geology, biology, chemistry and physics do you know?? Could you prove keplers 3rd law using basic physics? How well do you know theories of light, electromagnetism, conservation of energy, rotational dynamics, kinematics, atomic theory, evolutionary theory, laws of genetics, organic chemistry, plate tectonic theory, rock cycle, water cycle, chemical equilibrium , chemical kinetics, acid base theory, thermodynamics, etc. But, in your mind, I guess I 'm science illiterate. The rational thinking of denialists never ceases to amaze.

and what did Bill Clinton milk
November 19, 2007 - 23:08 ET by Lame CherryIt is past time that people start figuring out the globalists in how they reward and promote their own for services rendered.
Put it together. Bill Clinton from the Marc Rich, Saddam oil money skimming apparently received around 50 million in bribes to his Swiss accounts.
Bill wanting that money but not knowing how to explain it, literally has "spoken his way to 50 million dollars in fees". In economic terms that is called double dipping the pot. You either pay yourself your own fees overseas to "speak" which is tax free or you take the speaking fees and mix them with your own and voila after awhile 100 million through "investments" show up and the IRS never touches you as no one touches the globalist cartel members.
Al Gore ran the same scheme, but instead signed onto investment rewards programs where he made a fortune on deals by simply being a part of them. That is called payback for services rendered. I have no known proof of Swiss accounts, but there is the quite public proof of Chicom millions flowing into the Clinton Gore re election accounts........that kind of criminal offering always just like Val Plame gets one book deals and nice rewards programs.
For Gore though the Tennessee environmental rapist, the green scam was for his first love of money and his soul selling ambition to be President 44 of the United States to oversee the unification of the North American Union for his Rockefeller bosses.
One can check this WND link exposing the Bilderburg process in how the Rothschilds and Rockefellers raped the United States of our fortune and in bankrupting the nation forced Reagan and Bush to make an offering where America will eat Canada raw resources, slave labor Mexicans and Americans will become dependents of the Amerika Union.
http://www.worldnetd...
It is time beyond using WATER as the next scare weapon against Americans that Newsbusters starts explaining to the world that the next soul selling el Presidente in Al Gore is mandated to end the United States of America.
Sure they will call it the United States of the Americas.......and sure they will use the floundering dollar and American enemies dumping it and a money crisis to implement the Amero currency "as a necessary end", but the fact is this is what the 2008 election is about.

If Gore were a Republican, you can bet that would be front and center of every story about him. juicing the numbers to increase funding.
HMMM, what other science topic might be getting juiced by the UN increase funding and spending? Gosh, what could it be?
Fortunately, Al never relies on UN scientists for his schtick :o)

I'm appalled, chagrined, shocked, and somewhat irked at the implication.
Cool Arrow...turning up the heat

Exactly!
I heard Rush talking about this exact point today...
So true.... So true.
$$$$$ talks and Gore, plus others are counting on it...
I hope the Senate filibusters any single piece of this so-called Energy Bill if it comes up to them, which it will.
Al Gore Sr vs Al Gore Jr
November 20, 2007 - 18:31 ET by celatorAl Gore Jr, like his father, Albert Gore Sr, has made a fortune manipulating energy resources (it was Occidental Petroleum Company in the case of Al Sr.) by using his influence in Washington and by putting the so-called elite in the Washington of his day on the payroll. They were no more honest then than they are now. Al Sr. ran his scam with a little more caution than his flatfooted, numbskull son is handling the we-are-all-going-to-die-because-of-manmade-global-warming scam. With the advent of the lateral peer-to-peer citizen forums of the Internet, Al Gore is being exposed, whereas Al Sr. got away with his money-making scheme.

Excellent articles
November 20, 2007 - 21:59 ET by celatorThanks for the article references; I've just read both of them. The Hammer/Gore/Soviet Union connection is extremely revealing, and, unfortunately, not well known. Thanks!

November 22, 2007 - 00:57 ET by riff_raffA while back, I saw an "open letter" published in a paid advertisement in my local paper (the excellent Orange County Register), from Lord Monckton of Brenchley, chastising our U.S. House of Representatives for passing some ridiculous piece of meaningless, feel-good legislation regarding global warming. I was mightily impressed that someone in another country would spend their own money to give our meddling, nanny state congresspeeps a very public (and eloquent) smack down for doing something stupid.
There was an email address for Monckton shown in the letterhead, so I sent him an email letting him know how much I appreciated his effort. I didn't expect a reply. But a few days later I did get a reply from him. The email was a very touching explanation of how much he appreciated what our U.S. Constitution represents, what a wonderful job the framers did in writing it, and how sad it is that Congress seems to ignore it.
I guess it should not come as a suprise that Monckton was one of Maggie Thatcher's closest advisors.
Lord Monckton has publicly challenged Al Gore to a debate on global warming. Thus far, the Nobel Prize winning ex-VP and self-proclaimed climatology expert (and intellectual coward) has not responded.
