"We'll always have Paris. We didn't have, we'd lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night."
So famously said Humphrey Bogart to Ingrid Bergman in the marvelous conclusion of one of the greatest films of all time, "Casablanca."
On Wednesday, MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell shamelessly used a version of this line on White House advisor David Axelrod.
During her interview about yesterday's election results, including Bill Owens' victory in New York's 23rd Congressional district, Mitchell asked Axelrod about the Obama campaign documentary aired on HBO Tuesday.
This led to the following exchange that is guaranteed to make Bogie and Bergman roll over in their graves (video embedded below the fold):
Well, we loved you in the HBO documentary, and we'll always have the New York 23rd.
We loved you? What does Mitchell mean by "we"?
Beyond which, is it sound journalism to tell a White House advisor you love him?
And how about "We'll always have the New York 23rd"?
For those unfamiliar, "We'll always have Paris" is a remarkably endearing moment between two separated lovers who will be forever apart but will always remember the wonderful time they shared in their past.
Is that how Mitchell feels about Bill Owens' victory Tuesday?
Would it hurt for the folks at MSNBC to at least try and pretend they're not totally in the tank for Obama and his administration?
Now, that scene will NEVER be the same again!

This mummy Mitchell gives takes "partisan hack" to a new level
November 4, 2009 - 16:14 ET by SickofLibsAnd WTH is up with these MSNBC graphic artists, always tilting the NJ state outline any old which way so that it fits into whatever box they want to put it in?
Do they ever do this with California, another overly-vertical state? No, of course not.
We have an axis - PLEASE USE IT. Just listening to your "reporters' is vertigo-inducing enough.

November 4, 2009 - 16:56 ET by SickofLibsI would argue La Contessa La Brewer is a hackette of the first order.
And perhaps a 'Hackette With Extra Grease' category: Garafolo, Savannah Guthrie, Joan Walsh, Magpie Carlson, Katrina van der Heuvel and of course Michael Musto.
And then of course Whorewood, Clarence Page and Wes Clark, and Chris Cillizza.
All together, they would make for one heck of a cocktail party.

MSNBC Hack/Not A Hack Roll Call
November 4, 2009 - 16:59 ET by MrShySpeaking of "partisan hack"....
The MSNBC Hack/Not A Hack Roll Call, compiled by Mr. Shy:
We all know that probably 100% on this list are registered Democrats, but by "hack" I mean not just partisan (which is bad enough) but those that are really p*ss-poor and sloppy at their jobs and/or are given their own shows/programs when they have no business having them.
As before, you can all chime in as I'm not privy to several on this list, and please offer any names I may have overlooked.

Shy, Dylan Ratigan,
November 5, 2009 - 01:18 ET by fitzfongShy,
Dylan Ratigan, Tamron Hall, Norah O'Donnell and Contessa Brewer are all deperate hacks. Does Jonathan Turley ever bring that squirrel pelt strapped to his head onto the MSNBC set anymore? Because he's certainly a hack In the past, they also employed three of the most ridiculous hacks in the history of television: Rita Cosby, Ashleigh Banfield and Rick Sanchez. Dan Abrams had to fire himself, so he deserves the special 3 star treatment. Amy Robach can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Funny she should reference
November 4, 2009 - 16:14 ET by BruzillaFunny she should reference Casablanca as that movie dealt with the issue of Nazis, and I've often thought if I was ever going to make a movie about Nazis... I would cast Axlerod as Hitler. It has nothing to do with his politics, but the way he combs his har, his forehead, etc., just remind me of Hitler.

The advent of Talk Radio
November 5, 2009 - 10:02 ET by holeinthehullHoleinthehull
When conservative talk radio came into being 20+ years ago the liberal press had a free and open rein on news without ever having to expose or compromise their professional integrity ( i use "professional" and"integrity" lightly) or political leanings, because there was no competition or entities that exposed them for what they were and still are - bagmen, and their lapdogs for the liberal position.
Now they are out in full regalia with their colors and plumage of liberalism due to the conservative voices that "owns" radio, internet and cable. They are being challenged and drawn out each and everyday out into the open, once in the open, they can never make it back to the darkness from whence they came. The beauty and safety of the liberal press is not just the journalists liberal colors that show, but the liberal position of their employers (wapo, nyt, latimes, cnn, nbc, abc, npr, cbs, msnbc ad nauseum.)
The hilarity comes when they say they with a straight face mind you, that they are not liberals, and Fox News is not a news organization.
These sub-humans who call themselves journalists are absolute idiots, morons, ignorant fools and there is nothing we can do about it other than to continue the exposition of each and every character that picks up a pen, microphone or camera and tries to convince the American public that what they say is true and without argument.
The press abdicated years ago their responsibilities to all Americans. They are here for one reason and one reason only. They are the Symphony that liberals listen to as background music, to sooth their souls ( i use the word "soul" loosely) in the evening at elitist dinner parties and gatherings of what they would call themselves, a free and unbiased press.
