When Bill Maher isn’t bashing Nazi Republicans who plan to put immigrants in “boxcars,” the HBO comic wants to bring people together. The Real Time host on Wednesday opened a live, post-convention version of his show with this nasty joke: “For people who have been saying elections didn't offer a real choice, it is kind of a real choice. Right? ‘Hillary is going to fight for you.’ ‘Hillary is going to murder you.’ ‘How do we welcome immigrants?’ ‘How many can we fit in a boxcar?’"
Of course, the boxcar reference is a thinly-veiled reference to the Holocaust. Maher seems to have no sense of self awareness. Later in the show, he told his guests, “I feel like the saddest part of our country right now is that no matter what one side says, half the country hates the other half and they just defend their team.”
Hate such as comparing your opponents to Nazis? On last Thursday’s live show, from the Republican convention, Maher joked about “short bus” Republicans and the rise of “another Nazi Germany” in America.
On that program, he also said the 2016 race was a “referendum on decency."
Regarding Obama’s speech, Wednesday, the usually cynical comic gushed, “I almost didn't want to come out here because Obama was spellbinding, I thought, tonight as he so often is. He left nothing on the practice field tonight. I thought he was making a claim as to what true patriotism is.”

Real Time With Bill Maher
7/26/16
11:43BILL MAHER: For people who have been saying elections didn't offer a real choice, it is kind of a real choice. Right? “Hillary is going to fight for you.” “Hillary is going to murder you.” How do we welcome immigrants?” “How many can we fit in a boxcar?” A diverse coalition of races. Old white people in stupid hats. You know? Just very different. Well, especially that. The blackest thing about to Republican convention was Melania's speech.

MAHER: I almost didn't want to come out here because Obama was spellbinding, I thought, tonight as he so often is. He left nothing on the practice field tonight. I thought he was making a claim as to what true patriotism is.
D.L. HUGHLEY: I watched Kobe hit 60 in his last game and what I watched President Obama do tonight. I mean, that’s what the great ones do.

MAHER: I feel like the saddest part of our country right now is that no matter what one side says, half the country hates the other half and they just defend their team. And we saw it today with the Russian thing. I mean, I don't know if I have ever seen what Donald Trump said today. He was asking a foreign country to commit cyber espionage and hack into the political opponents of one team here in the United States. What if Hillary did that?
