The feminist site Jezebel is complaining that MSNBC has no comment on the video of MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews caught on hot mic offering "gross comments" Tuesday night after Donald Trump won the Indiana primary. Matthews could be heard in the background drooling over Trump's wife, Melania. Of course, that resulted in a major part of the web community laughing at Matthews. However, what most probably have forgotten is that nine years ago, Matthews was caught on camera gushing buckets of drool over Erin Burnett who was host of CNBC's Street Signs at the time. So let us now watch both of Chris Matthews' drool sessions to determine which one was more embarrassingly inappropriate.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Did you see her walk? Runway walk. My God, is that good! ...I could watch that runway show!
Notice how Brian Williams quickly went to a break? Most likely it was to tell Chris Matthews that his outlandish drooling just went out over the airwaves. Too bad there is no video available of the reaction on Mathews' face. One wonders if he had a sudden flashback to his embarrassing 2007 Erin Burnett encounter:
MATTHEWS: Could you get a little closer to the camera?
BURNETT: What is it? Is it (garbled) in strangely?
MATTHEWS: Come in closer...no...come in...come in further...come in closer...really close.
(Burnett leans towards camera.)
BURNETT: What are you, what are you doing?
MATTHEWS: Haw! Haw! Just kidding! You look great! Anyway, thank... Erin it's great to have...look at that look... You're great...
BURNETT: I don't even know. I'm going to have to go look at the tape here. I'm in a strange location.
MATTHEWS (laughing): No, you're beautiful! I'm just kidding! I'm just kidding! You're a knockout! Anyways thank you, Erin Burnett. It's alright getting bad news from you even. Okay. Thanks for coming on Hardball.
Okay, folks. You be the judge. Which Chris Matthews video was more disturbing? Since your humble correspondent is an old school type, my choice would be when Chris Matthews seemed to want to leap through the TV screen for a more closeup ogle of Erin Burnett. However, I am open to changing my mind if a video could be found of Chris Matthews' reaction upon being informed that his Melania Trump drool is about to go viral.
