Bozell Reacts to Chris Matthews's Ludicrous Obama/Henry V Comparison on Hannity's 'Media Mash'
When then-President George W. Bush visited U.S. troops, saying similar things to what President Barack Obama said in his recent visit, MSNBC's Chris Matthews snarled that it was a mere "photo-op," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted last night on FNC's "Hannity."
Yet when President Obama made his surprise visit to Kabul earlier this week, Matthews ridiciculously gushed that Obama's speech was "right out of Henry the Fifth," alluding to the St. Crispin's Day "band of brothers" speech in the Shakespeare play. While Matthews swooned to Obama's speech, Eugene Robinson had a different and more realistic take on it ("The Hazy Path Home," Washington Post, May 4, 2012).
Robinson rightly points out that rather than laying a clear course ahead, Obama left at least a half dozen important questions unanswered.
I rarely agree with Robinson's columns, but today I found myself in almost total agreement.
As soon as the thrill up his leg dissipates, Matthews ought to read Robinson's column.
Gal, is this the article

Gal, is this the article you're referencing? It has a different title, but sounds like what you're talking about.
Why Are We in Afghanistan for the Long Haul?
It apparently has had more than one headlne: if you look at the URL, at one point it was "Leaving Yet Staying in Afghanistan"
That's the one, MB

The version I saw was printed from an early morning edition, I guess. But that's it.

A little off subject, but does anyone know or even notice that Matthews doesn't say "This is Hardball...only on MSNBC" anymore? He leaves the last part off. Are they micro-managing him? Imagine that!
And speaking of hypocrisy here in your post, Brent, why doesn't someone call the Dems out for being just as hypocritical? Sure, the R's are crying foul for the Dems politicizing a military accomplishment...and the Dems defend by saying that's exactly what Bush did when he was President. Ok...conceding that...sort of...the Dems cried that same foul! Someone needs to call them on their own hypocrisy!
The Dems don't have time to

The Dems don't have time to worry about hypocrisy, they are too busy planning the 13-month anniversary of the OBL killing; it's only a few weeks away!

Matthews sang a different tune for Bush.

(paraphrasing) hearing that the people at home are supporting you, and have the Commander-in-Chief there with you personally!!
Matthews had quite a different view of President Bush's surprise visit to Baghdad in 2006:
.....And was Bush‘s real mission a political one.....?
The bravado of visiting Baghdad....[ ] ..... Will the trip move Bush up in the polls? What does this mean politically for the president and his party in the midterm elections this November? Will it sell to the American people? Will this whole thing work?
Which president gave a formal televised speech while visiting? Which president has told troops "you guys make a great photo-op!" ?
Yep. Bush's trip was political; Obama's was pure Henry V.
A touch of Barry in the night??? Oh, barf!
