For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: climate bill is a pile of s**t!
Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) had a few choice words about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) landmark climate-change bill after its passage Friday. When asked why he read portions of the cap-and-trade bill on the floor Friday night, Boehner told The Hill, "Hey, people deserve to know what's in this pile of s--t."
Is Boehner right? Watch his entire amazing speech from the House floor Friday and decide for yourself.

MOD REPUBS TAX U!
June 28, 2009 - 13:38 ET by reelman46MODERATE REPUBS TAX YOU!
Republicans
sold out their party and their country and voted with the Democrat
NATIONAL ENERGY TAX BILL. Without those eight GOP votes, the bill would
have been DEFEATED by a vote of 211-220.
The eight Republican sell-outs were: Mary Bono Mack (Calif.), Mike
Castle (Del.), Mark Steven Kirk (Ill.), Leonard Lance (NJ), Frank
LoBiondo (NJ), John McHugh (NY), Dave Reichert (Washington), Chris
Smith (NJ).
CRAWFISH NOTE: Once again, those mush mouth

Pelosi power grab
June 28, 2009 - 09:48 ET by jdlybrandThe main reason this bill came to a vote is because Pelosi wants to know who falls in line in the Democrat party. I bet you all the Dems that voted against this bill won't get a lot of help if running for re-election in 2010. And Boehner is correct; although "pile of s**t" is an understatement.
Politics doesn't work that way.
June 28, 2009 - 10:35 ET by Kingfish17You make a bold assumption that 42 Dems who voted against Crap and Tax actually hold a conviction that this bill is a bad thing. The only conviction that most of them hold is that they know that if they vote yes on this POS Legislation, then they will get the boot come next election cycle. (Sure, there might be a handful of them who believe in the no vote, but not 42 of them.)
The strategy is not whether Crap and Tax passes, but who amongst the dems gets to vote no so that they can tell their mellon head voters that they don't cow-tow to Pelosi! They are independents! (And they get to keep their funding from the Dem Party slush funds.)
"I've sentenced boys younger then you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it, but I felt I owed it to them." Judge Smails
I make no such assumption
June 28, 2009 - 12:11 ET by jdlybrandMy only assumption is that Pelosi wants to know which Dems will not toe the line. You think for a minute there aren't some Dems who know in their heart and mind that this legislation is garbage yet still kow-tow to the likes of her lowness. Look at what they did to Lieberman. Under the bus big-time!
Of course there are a few......
June 28, 2009 - 12:43 ET by Kingfish17Of course there are a few who know this legislation is garbage. But most of those who know this still voted yes. It's about power and money, Democratic power and more money for the Federal Government to dole out, which is of course more power.
A "no" vote by a dem however, does not mean he is principled. More then likely he or she was given the OK to vote no because they are in a district that will not like this legislation.
"I've sentenced boys younger then you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it, but I felt I owed it to them." Judge Smails
Which makes
June 28, 2009 - 12:50 ET by Paragrouperthe defection by 8 repbulicans worse. If the democrats wanted to pass this trash, the republicans should have closed ranks and forced them to do it alone. Then we would see how many of those conservative democrats would be willing to buck their constituents.

One Democrat was upset that his leaders would needlessly force

Mississippi Rep. Gene Taylor (D) voted against the measure that he says

"A lot of people walked the plank on a bill that will never become law," Taylor told The Hill after the gavel came down.

What the opposition has to say doesn't mean anything
June 28, 2009 - 09:52 ET by FastEdWhat should concern the American people, and to a lesser extent the press (how have been totally absent from this story - the cowards), is the tale of the book being passed, maybe to become law, and who was the reader?? 1200 + 300 pages, and how many "lawmakers" read it? There should be a 'peoples' court that can sue our "elected" officials for not following their oath of office, "defend the Constitution of the United States".
If this type of politics continues, we will be watching a silent coup of our government by the very people who are supposed to work for us. I'm so glad, that only a few week past Fathers Day, my dad isn't around to see what he so heroically fought for, liberty and freedom, get trampled by the likes of this democrat party, administration and the turn coat repubics (like Lance(R/D) and Smith(R/D) of NJ) who voted and will continue to vote for the distruction of this country.

June 28, 2009 - 11:12 ET by GothampcI definitely like the idea of a peoples court. I just wonder how elected officials would buy off the people that served in that court.
The more important point though is that people keep electing these representatives who act to harm them. I live in NY and can't understand why people continue to elect Schumer. I definitely don't understand why people in MA keep electing John Kerry.

June 28, 2009 - 09:59 ET by ThisnThatI called my congressman on Friday, telling her my stance against the cap and trade bill. Here's her official comments following the vote:
“This bill represents fundamental changes in our nation’s energy policy that are long overdue,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “We cannot continue to deny the impact climate change is having on our environment and must act now to reduce global warming. In doing so, this bill will also create millions of new clean energy jobs, strengthen our national security, and protect our environment.”
Her favorite drink is coolaid. I've never seen her take a stance against a liberal democratic position. Never. She represents the extreme left wing of the left wing progressive party, and is a true danger to the freedoms this country still has left. Why is she so dangerous? Because she simply ignores facts and the truth, and votes against facts all the time.

June 28, 2009 - 13:37 ET by acaiguanaYeah, my Congressional Representative wrote me a lengthy (mass response) to address his silly vote. Here's an except.
"As you know, energy policy impacts our national security and our economy. This legislation will implement a set of clean energy strategies that will help the State of Florida and the entire country advance our commitment to energy independence and economic security. After meeting with experts in these fields and hearing from many individuals and businesses in South Florida, I voted to support the American Clean Energy and Security Act. This legislation passed the House by a recorded vote of 219 to 212."
Nowhere does he address the issue of off-shore drilling in Florida.

I haven't smoke in many years but the damage is done. They released me last night so I am at home. I should be getting a CPAP machine tomorrow. I have to sleep on oxygen. My whole point here is this has been one heck of a week. MJ dying and the crappy energy bill but I forgot all that when it came to my health. Those things are important but being here to see the grandkids grow up are more important.
I've got to make some lifestyle changes and they are not going be easy for someone like me that looks at eating like a sport. I am cleared to go back to work on Wednesday. I don't have to be on oxygen all time.
Having spent 5 days in the hospital I got an ear full from all the heatlh care personnel about Obama care. I get to all that later in the week. I wonder if I would have even gotten to the through door of the emergency room on Monday or gotten anywhere near the battery of test I was put through under Obamacare.

June 28, 2009 - 16:18 ET by Kingfish17When the History Channel first came out I loved it, even though it could have been called "The Hitler Channel" because of the preponderance of WW2 footage they used to show. The other day, I watched a two hour show about the life of Andrew Jackson. It was a very well produced show with lots of good historical inforamtion. But what got me was the comment they made about his first run for the presidency against John Quincy Adams.
The narrator stated, "This election could have been viewed as the first election that pitted the Democratic Party vs the Republican Party, with Jackson as the Democart representing the views of the comman man, and Adams as the Republican representing money, big business and special interests." The election took place years before the Republican Party was even conceived of!
