Imagine a partnership between the owners of the Titanic and the Hindenburg, and you've pretty much got the brilliance behind Newsweek's newly-announced alliance with Air America.
"[G]iven the respective ratings, it’s an outstanding business decision. Clearly, Newsweek wanted a radio partner whose listenership mirrors their readership -- minimal and declining rapidly," quipped Media Research Center President Brent Bozell in a statement released today.
The announced radio partnership comes the same week Newsweek used its cover art and the accompanying story to bash conservative radio talk icon Rush Limbaugh, the ideological nemesis of his ratings-challenged competition at Air America.
"The 'News' in Newsweek has always been a joke," but now the weekly magazine's partnership with the "uber-liberal" Air America radio network "removes all doubt," added the NewsBusters publisher, reacting to news that Air America will syndicate "Newsweek On Air" on its stations.
Newsweek did its part in 2004 to hype the advent of the new liberal network, running a three-page announcement story featuring host Al Franken in a "photo illustration" depicting the comedian on an aircraft carrier in a flight suit.
Mr. Bozell's statement in full follows:
I am shocked - SHOCKED - that liberal Newsweek magazine has partnered with liberal Air America. Who would have known that the two would find so much common ground on which to build a business relationship? So not only is their current Rush Limbaugh-bashing cover an assault on their ideological opposition, it's an attack on their radio competition.
And given the respective ratings, it's an outstanding business decision. Clearly Newsweek wanted a radio partner whose listenership mirrors their readership - minimal and declining rapidly.
We've documented their left wing bias for years. The ‘News' in Newsweek has always been a joke. Their teaming up with the uber-liberal radio network removes all doubt. Newsweek and Air America - perfectly liberal together.

Any station carrying Hannity or Limbaugh will be required to carry a show like -- oh, say -- NewsWeak, and pay the same for it even if they run it at 0300 to half a dozen listeners.

March 11, 2009 - 18:08 ET by mostlymoderateAir America would be a failure even if Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Steve Jobs, Lee Iaacoca et. Al. ALL focused on a strategy to make it work. Face it, the liberal/democrat base is a group of people that don't care about politics. All most of them want is their amnesty, food stamps, welfare, affirmative action, abortions, free medical, free educations, etc. Meanwhile, most of them are watching television or watching movies and spending government money like on having octuplet-babies or buying hashish or listening to P. Diddy. These people want to know what Paris Hiton is doing for crying out loud. This is the Democratic base. Numbskulls!
They are not listening to AM or FM radio or spending money on big advertisers that reach the Rush Limbaugh market like insurance, hearing aides, health products, financial services, retirement services, etc. Budweiser is not advertising on AM radio!!!
Then you have the "Smarty-Pant" liberal crowd. They are all in Starbucks or in Feminine-History class. Also not radio people.
Air Head America joins forces..whoopie
March 11, 2009 - 18:12 ET by Joe CamelSo, Air Head America (probably more like "coke" head) and Newsweek are teaming up. No matter, never listened to or read the magazine. I must admit that once when I was hunting and needed some paper for "other" uses, I used some Hilary pictures to clean things up nicely..not scratchy at all..in the end, what was on the paper is what I think of them both.
