| "Journalistic" Cheap Shot at the Competition |
UPDATE: Below the fold.
-------------------------------------------
Couldn't they have at least waited a week to make this announcement?
Liberal radio uber-failure Air America is branching out, expanding their tremendously successful business model to include syndication of outside programming. And with whom are they beginning this new venture?
Why, Newsweek magazine, and their program Newsweek On Air. Newsweek has been thusly broadcasting for twenty-seven years, has won "various awards and a place on so many station schedules" -- and I would venture that most of you have never heard of it.
A state of anonymity that will likely continue with their Air America partnership.
This announcement comes the same week Newsweek uses its cover and the accompanying story to bash Rush Limbaugh, the undisputed king of syndicated talk radio and someone who is diametrically opposed ideologically to the magazine's new syndication partner.
Thereby hiding its new business interests, and one might say their old ideological ones, behind the battered veneer of their journalistic integrity.
And so it goes in the Brave New Media World.
And one additional thought: Where does Newsweek stand on the new ‘Fairness' Doctrine, the Durbin Censorship Doctrine? Are they going to side with the censors of talk radio, or with their free speech rights and those of their fellow hosts? And the right of tens of millions of Americans to freely choose the shows to which they want to listen.
They should publicly answer this vital First Amendment question, and ask their Air America compatriots to do the same.
-------------------------------------------
UPDATE: When the Air America network was launched in 2004, Newsweek did a fawning, glowing three-page announcement story featuring host Al Franken, including a President Bush-mocking "photo illustration" of Franken standing on an aircraft carrier in a flight suit.

I hope they keep up their strategy myself.
Btw...I heard his show today also...he isn't laying off of Matthews or Newt, I was pleasingly surprised he brought this all up in his last hour, he usually always ignores this BS, but evidently he has had his fill up to here...with all of them, loved how he went after Carville too and his silly fake polling work, along with good ol' Stanley Greenberg.
Like I said right off when this all started...they picked the wrong man to attack like they have....hehehee
You cannot make this stuff up...

One more thing
March 11, 2009 - 12:45 ET by cvgbuckeyeLets just humor old Carville for a moment and say that Rush Limbaugh is the leader of The Republican Party and Conservatives. Lets compare that to the democrat party leadership:
1. Chairman Obama. The only difference between Obama as compared to Marx, Lenin, Castro and Hugo Chavez is Obama's skin is darker, his ears are bigger and he doesn't have nearly as much experience as his Marxist predecessors.
2. Nancy Pelosi. The only difference between her and the witch in The Wizard of Oz is the witch is better looking.
3. Harry Reid. Harry's ears are almost as big as Chairman Obama's but Harry surpasses him in intellect and excitement to mature people.
These people look like the bar scene in the first Star Wars movie and what they say makes less sense.
I'LL TAKE RUSH!
This makes perfect sense....

Liberal deflection tactic.
March 11, 2009 - 13:06 ET by mattmThey have no counter argument. All they can do is shut their opponents up. They do this in any way they can, from character assination to outright censorship.
Their criticism of Rush is actually an apt description of Libtard Blowhards like Olbermental, Tingly-Leg Boy and Jackass Cafferty.
To actually reason with conservatives would be to acknowledge conservatism as a valid viewpoint. So, instead they demonize.
Newsweek=Air America

Air America, Newsweek, and MSNBC all working together
March 11, 2009 - 13:51 ET by SupermanIsn't it interesting how Air America, Newsweek, and MSNBC all work together? It's like a three pronged approach at liberal propaganda. Radio. Print. TV.
I HAVE SAID THIS BEFORE...
March 12, 2009 - 02:34 ET by danybhoyI'll say it again, MSNBC has become a hybrid entity, with the very "best" from MSNBC, the NYSlimes, the WashCompost, Newsweak, DailyKos & ErrorAmerikkka. Add to that MediaMatters doing much of the "research" for BathTubBoy's Meltdown program, & you have the elite media's wetdream for a cablenews channel. The ratings however, say that "We the people", are saying not so much.
There is an old joke about MSNBC was that is was a website with a news channel, as opposed to a news channel with a website. It does do well for web traffic, but people don't tune in. For me, as long as there is anything else to watch on my DishNetwork, Fox, AnimalPlanet, Golf, or even a Match Game marathon on the GameShowNetwork, I will have something better to watch then MSNBC.

March 11, 2009 - 14:10 ET by awffp1890We don't want you speaking your mind Rush, unless it agrees with us, and since that is not the case, we would like to shut you up. Free speech for all. Or at least those the liberals feel should have it.

March 11, 2009 - 14:50 ET by jaywlI am surprised you have not listened to this award winning program. Living here in Virginia I can drive to the top of the Blue Ridge to receive the 6:00AM, Sunday morning only broadcast of this award winner from the WSFE 910 on your AM dial from Burnside, Ky. Seriously now, Newsweek was once among a trilogy of weeklies that were fair, informative, and worth subscribing to. Yes, I admit I once paid for Time and Newsweek. USNWR is still worth your dime, but not the liberal organs the others have become. If Time and Newsweek were not part of a larger corporation and had to sink or swim on their own, would the owners (stockholders) insist on fairness to half the potential subscriber base?
Unbiased news reporting at its best
March 11, 2009 - 14:52 ET by The Smokin FrogUnbiased news reporting at its best. It is great timing too. Since we have all heard by now how the liberals proclaimed their desire for President Bush to fail at the beginning and end of his term. And we all know how they wanted our soldiers to fail in Iraq (one must wonder what that failure would look like to liberals). Is Air America really the voice of America? No, it's closer to Airhead America. Makes one think of the value and beauty of duck tape.

Comedy Team
March 11, 2009 - 15:41 ET by Lakewood BobIf Franken can eventually secure the Senate seat for Minnesota (The land of 1,000,000 Flakes), it should help the ratings of both Airhead America and Newsweak. I say this because Franken will be able to team up with Schumer as the new Fric and Frac comedy team in the Senate. They can call themselves Schlep and Schlock the hubristic and obnoxious "Schmuck Brothers", and take their comedy act on the road to raise socialist awareness in support of all of BO's anti-capitalist programs! After all, you can't let a crisis go to waste, now can you?
BTW, please refer to me as Herr Bob or Comrade, Thank you!
Rush/Ari/Matthews!
March 11, 2009 - 16:22 ET by bigtimerRush would love what Ari is doing to Chris Matthews right this minute...my gawd he is kicking his arse all over the place with pure class...he has made a 1st Class Fool of him, he still is...
I know Rush will love this, and will be seeing it, after-all, Rush even is taking it back to Matthews, he did again today in his last hour, along with a few others.
This is great!
I'm hoping Ari runs for something, and I sure as heck wished he was head of the RNC, he is exactly what we conservatives, repubs need...big time!

Poor Rush, why don't people treat him with respect
March 12, 2009 - 10:51 ET by chronicI think this article was written very poorly. It takes two stories and tries to collide them together. The author, along with most on this site, were upset by Newsweek's cover story about Rush. It's not a business move to attack a potential rival. It is simply an announcement that Newsweek is joining Air America.
The attempt to try and create any controversy is almost laughable at how much BS was in this article. Rush has had his huge, mishapen face all over the news lately because of the conflict he is causing, within his own party. I can't believe anyone would bother to listen to that blowhard, but we do live in a country with free speech. I just wish people would tune him out because he doesn't preach a good message.
The article trying to tag that on at the end about free speech is just a cheap shot of their own. I don't think that Newsweek or Air America will try to censor media broadcasting because they are themselves media. Perhaps the author missed that every news channel was covering Rush because when you only get your news funnelled from one or two sources you miss out on information.
